Adventures in Chamonix | France’s highest cable car and the Tour du Mont Blanc
Brittany and Andy head to Chamonix, a picturesque town in France and the home of Western Europe’s tallest mountain at 15,774 feet: Mont Blanc. We ride the terrifying Aiguille du Midi cable car to the mountaintop and tackle a day hike on the Tour du Mont Blanc with 3,000 feet of vert…and plenty of sketchy ladders. Along the way, we make friends with a few ibexes and catch some iconic views around Lacs des Chéserys and Lac Blanc.

// 🤷‍♂️ WHO ARE WE? 🥾 //
We’re Brittany and Andy. After thru-hiking the John Muir trail, we made the decision to uproot our lives (and the lives of our cats, Prius and Tumbleweed) in search of wide open spaces. Come along as we hike, climb, kayak, and forage our way through our new home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest-and occasionally explore some other cool outdoor destinations, too.

We Moved to the Pacific Northwest! Foraging for Mushrooms
Переглядів 9082 роки тому
It's a new chapter for Bad Hikers: Brittany and Andy are officially residents of the Pacific Northwest! Come along as we make the nerve-wracking decision to buy an 100-year-old home, sight unseen, in Oregon. Then we kick things off with some mushroom foraging and reminisce about our first few months in our new home: summiting Mt. Hood, kayaking Lost Lake, and enjoying the change of the seasons....

It's our final days on the John Muir Trail and our final episode of the series. Andy blasts over Kearsarge Pass to pick up our last resupply in Independence, CA. Brittany unravels on Forester Pass, the highest point on the JMT at 13,200 feet. Then it's all uphill to the summit of Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States. Will we make it? What happens next? Also in this ...

It’s all mountain passes from here: In this episode, we tackle Mather Pass, Pinchot Pass, and Glen Pass on the John Muir trail. Every pass has its own unique characteristics and challenges, but as promised by other hikers, Glen Pass is a total beast with switchbacks that look like itty bitty goat trails. Andy starts coming to terms with the fact that we’re nearing the end of our adventure. Brit...

We finally hike over the iconic Muir Pass and stop for a much-needed Snickers break at the Muir hut. Then it's all down hill (more than 3,000 feet down, in fact!) to our next campsite in Kings Canyon National Park. Andy's sun shirt gets stolen by a furry creature in the night and Brittany faces another grueling task: climbing the Golden Staircase. But it's all worth it when we reach the most be...

Selden Pass turns out to be little more than a blip as we hike to our halfway point on the JMT, Muir Trail Ranch! After picking up our third resupply, we head into King's Canyon National Park, home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on the trail: Evolution Valley, McClure Meadow, and Muir Pass. Brittany gets a trail name and Andy embrace his thru-hiker aesthetic. We both survive our first...

We head over Silver Pass and reach a new milestone: 100 miles on the John Muir trail! Brittany admits thru hiking is harder than expected and starts taking ibuprofen with breakfast. Built in 1936, the bridge was meant to connect the East Fork Road, but when the San Gabriel River flooded in 1938, the road was abandoned. You can now see remnants along the East Fork Trail! #BadHikers hit up Sequoia National Forest! But rather than make our way to the famed giant sequoia grove, we ended up in...a giant cave instead?
