This particular job was $7,250 before any rebates or credits (tax credit when upgrade is combined with solar / battery) as part of 25D IRA tax credits.
Are there no white electricians left in America?🤮
I am never EVER going EV!
Too bad commiefornia is going to tax EV drivers .30 cents per mile because they have lost tens of millions in gasoline taxes. There go the savings 😅 Oh, and by the way, the pilot programs have already begun
I like how she laughed when she said $10,000. She's thinking "you fucking suckers"
I stopped when I saw that the customer was paying $.11 per kWh. Man what state is that? Here off peak hours at its cheapest is $.35 kWh but normally $.40 - $.53 with a high end of $.66. Man $.11 though?
Here in Dallas I'm paying 12 cents per kwh plus fixed monthly Oncor delivery fee of a few dollars. And that's up from a 60 month rate I locked in that just expired in November of 2023 where I was paying 7.8 cents
i did mine myself and it cost 92$ lol used 4pin dryer splitter was 19$ 14-50R ABS face mounted recepticle was 6$ 4-pin dryer cord was like 9$ and a used EV hood new in box charger was like 45$ drilled one small dime sized hole behind my washer into my garage. my car maxes out at 3.2kw so no big deal and i rent so ill just patch the small hole and take everything with me to the next house when i move out paid for itself that weekend.... lol
You are known as a problem. You are the reason insurance rates increase for everybody. As a renter you should never touch anyone else’s property as you say you did.
@@Californians_go_home k well, 1. im thinking of making an offer to buy this house when my lease is up, and 2. I have a rental house and manage another one for my parents. I regularly do repairs like rehang doors, fix cabinet doors, and patch drywall. you must be the type of landlord who doesnt want anything to be changed and would flip out if a renter like me replaced the loose outlets and fixed the broken shower. its not even finished drywall.....
@@vevenaneathna if it’s my house, I don’t want anyone else doing repairs or alterations besides myself. It’s my loss if there was a problem caused by somebody else. The tenant just moves on. I’m the type of landlord that maintains his properties and I respect my tenants. In return they should respect my property and call me if something needs to be repaired. Especially electrical repairs. The way you described your ev installation is hack and you shouldn’t do that unless it’s your house and your liability. There shouldn’t even be any push back or an argument on this . If you don’t own it don’t touch it without permission.
I paid $450 for my electrician to add a 50amp fuse on the panel , pull wires two feet through wall to an outlet. Done
1200 - 2500 is a good price don’t trust them meth heads work
It might cost you your house ! And I would not trust that guy at all looks like he do not have the knowledge need it he might burn your house!!!
I would never want my breaker outside because it looks like I random person could just turn stuff off from the outside
My electrician installed a 14/50 outlet for 600 dollars. He ran about 30 feet of line and I later discovered he installed an industrial outlet. I wonder if the reason the garage burned down was that the outlet was a residential outlet and over heated. Might not be the fault of the car at all. Might even be the fault of the driver. Some people are too quick to make accusations. I've had an electric car for 7 years that is 10 years old with over 120,000 miles and no problems. I consider battery degradation to be an expectation not a problem. Neither the car nor wiring have gone up in flames.
Well it’s not so bad charging my car, but when your on the road and pull up to charge your car, and they also charge you to park. $32 wow now that’s a rip
Where are they getting those prices from? I don’t have an EV, but I had to upgrade my panel as well as bring in 200 amp service, and it cost me less than $4,000
You should know better than install a charger in a garage. Those EV-IL vehicles have a common fault THEY SET ON FIRE. .
not tp much of an electrician, this needs a added subpanel, rather than a panel swap, cost, less than half the swap cost, same end result
Simple solution: Don't buy an EV!
Should never pay more than 3 or 4 hundred dollars for this easy work. If democrats hadn’t run up pricing on everything you buy now it could have been half that!
God. Democrats again? You are such a genius.
@@OldManse09 thank you! I hear that all the time!
Yeah everyone should disregard this comment. I routinely fix what these jack leg handymen are installing. If you want your ev battery destroyed or house burnt down go for it.

@@Ragingcapitalist92 that may be true, but I’m no handyman and not all handyman are jacklegs! I’ll put my work and allot of there’s against yours anyway! By the way, I’m a 60 year old retired electrician from Georgia! And proud of it!
In the long run you save nothing and will incur huge unexpected costs
Yes! Nice to hear from someone who hasn't bought into the EV scam.
🥰😘❤🏡!
The Tesla dealership had a list of electricians that installed wall chargers. I selected one of the electricians and was able to have it installed next to the garage door, which showed no electrical line for $800 excluding the cost of the Tesla charger itself. My electrical panel was at the other end of the garage.
Hope it doens't blow up overnight while you're charging your coal-powered EV!
Cost me 200 parts and 48A direct wiring with 60A breaker on a 200A panel. The Emporia was 400.00. Done deal.
I got quotes from ranging from 1350 to 2900. My panel is in the basement, has room for 2 more breakers, wire has to be fished over basement bathroom into the crawl space and then punching into garage. Is that price reasonable ? Also please don’t use those cheap Leviton 279 receptacles.
I had a licensed electrician install a 50amp breaker and a NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage. My 200amp breaker box is in the garage and had enough empty space for the extra breaker. I was charged $250 for the install, and I purchased the circuit breaker and 14-50 outlet beforehand. My total cost was ~$500.
How much did the EV cost you? I hope it doesn't blow up some night while you're charging.
@@1940limited Likewise, I hope your combustion vehicle doesn't leak gasoline and blow up some night.
Got a quote for 5,000 in a old house with a detached garage.
Detached garage sucks if you cant do it yourself or know somebody because its expensive. I did the work for one of my neighbor recently who had a detached garage. His main panel was full and we thought about using tandems to make room, but decided to just add a feeder circuit to a sub panel right next to it. This way, it was still very affordable and have plenty of room for future expansion. I ran a conduit out of the new sub up the basement and outside to a 100amp QO 6 space outdoor panel just to have a service switch. Ran a 60ft pvc conduit underground with 3awg thwn-2 to the garage with a new 100amp QO sub panel. PVC conduit for burial only and transitioned to emt above ground; i just hate exposed pvc because it expands, contracts, changes color and sometimes sag over time. Also drove in two ground rods 6ft apart at the detached garage. Price of all material and an hardwired Emporia ev charger was $2000 and he paid me $1000 for the work with neighbor discount. Could be a bit cheaper, but he insisted on using Square D QO panels, the Homeline would be just fine at half the price. If you are handly, you can do it yourself, just make sure everything's up to code.
Detached garage hopefully will save your house from burning down when the EV catches fire.
So, the difference between $10,000 and $1,200 is a little bit. I see... And glancing through the comments - this video is kinda useless, huh?
The video's a bit scary in that so many peopel are getting hooked by the EV scam.
It cost me $350 including the charge cable.
When your EV blows up what do you think that will cost?
Read the manual guys.
With no big problems, from $200 to $300 is about right. For safety, it's best to use an industrial-level Two NEMA 14-50 outlet. That will be the biggest expense.
For safety, don'' buy an EV!
My cost complete was under $300.
But I presume the car hasn't blown up yet. That will be your real cost.
@@1940limited extremely rare for them to catch fire. lots of safeguards, no different to phones, which billions of people carry in their pockets...

America doesn't and will never have the charging grid (with fast chargers like J1772) for EV travel across the US. It's clown-act blowing smoke up your ass. A 10 hour trip will take 15-20 hours trying to consistently find "working and available EV FAST chargers" that are "open and available" immediately when you locate them. You will spend a large majority of your trip charging that fugking EV u own. Can't wait for CourtTV to have the first EV Charger homicide trial. You know the person........the asshat that steals the parking spot you were hurrying along to grab? Yeah, same-same but add in a homicide. The EV is a moronic concept thinking you will gleefully travel the continent driving your EV everywhere with a big smile. If you are just charging overnight at home for a commute to/from work/running errands an EV might be an sound option.
It cost me $250.
Lol Tesla charger $400 and cost of certified installation $200. Idk where they getting $1200 for
It’s costing me $500. $400 for a charger and $100 for a circuit breaker, wire, and conduit. And I’m installing it myself.
Your real sot will be when the car explodes.
He was on meth
@dontgetsalt2045 who did you use
A bit misleading and poorly informed 1:24. A subpanel can be installed for just a few hundred dollars. You don't really need to do an entire panel swap. The level 2 charger can be bought from Amazon. Most are now priced less than $300. A rule of thumb is to always avoid any vendor that shows up with complications and outrageously expensive nonsense.
Great call out, and we agree... there are several options when it comes to offering solutions based on the customer's needs and future electrical wants. The purpose of this shorter video was to touch upon 3 scenarios; easy install, available breaker space and customer provided EV charger which does result in lower installation costs. We've done a few EV chargers as low as $600, but that is not the norm. The other two options; longer runs with some complexity, cover the typical install and are in that $1k - $2k range. Lastly, and only about 5%-10% of the time, when truly out of panel breaker space, condition of panel (Federal Pacific as an example) and availability of breakers... the panel swap option is the way to go. We had a customer with a 20/40 panel that had all tandems and used all 40 spaces - which did not allow for adding an EV charger, along with the future solar and battery (ordered), hot tub, mini-split addition for supplemental heating/cooling, etc. He also wanted the ability to manage (via app and remotely from anywhere with internet) his battery back-up via SPAN, which allows changing which circuits are in battery back-up, vs. being locked in to a specific sub-panel type set up as with most generator or hard-wired back-up systems. So... that would have been a better panel to show in the video, for the panel swap recommendation. We might look to make a new video to clarify some of your points, and also talk about quad breakers, and a sub panel option as well. Thanks for watching the video and your comment.
No certified electrical contractor is going to charge a few hundred dollars for a sub-panel you are crazy
A rule of thumb is to always avoid advice from UA-cam wannabe experts.... for example buying cheap ass level two EVSE's or receptacles bought online, can end up burning down your house....
@@k20909 The prices are crazy also.
@@nc3826 What?! You mean a plug and socket with a 33% duty cycle will melt at 100% duty cycle? I am surprised to hear that.😁
First panel could of made space by using tandems breakers
You are correct, based on the availability of that breaker for the panel , and no other concerns behind the deadfront (33 year old panel) are discovered... there are potentially 4 locations where adding in the quad breaker could work. We may need to make a new video that talks about those other cost effective solutions (quads and subs). This was just a short video to help homeowners take a quick look at a few things, and set some general cost expectations. Thank you for watching and your comment.
@@MyElectricHomeCO On some old houses, you could be doing the customer a favor by replacing his panel. How about pin and tube 1922 style?
