    Peter stole $100. An hour later John bought a $70 goods from the same shop. How much did the shop lose? $100. I couldn't care less if Peter and John knows each other, are accomplices, or even the same person.

      @Namath1000 6 днів тому

      $100 was stolen. The store lost $100. That's it. That he made a purchase with the $100 is irrelevant. You can also look at it another way. The thief left the store with $100 more ($70 in goods / $30 cash) than he came in with. If the store's loss is $200 and the thief's gain is $100, who did the store lose the other $100 to?

  • @jslice5967
    @jslice5967 8 днів тому

    It's not a great breakdown, but it is correct . Basically, the thief decided to steal the goods instead of the $70. In the end, the thief has $30+the goods. While the store has $70.

    I disagree. Ownership of money and goods always remains with the last legitimate owner. The store keep owns $100. It is stolen by the thief. There is no legitimate exchange. Therefore, ownership remains with the Shopkeeper who is down $100. The thief returns and uses the $100 he does not legitimately own to purchase 70 of goods. When the thief gives the shopkeeper the stolen $100 as payment, he gets another $70 of goods where ownership does not transfer because the payment is fraudulent... and he receives another $30 as change in another fraudulent transfer from shopkeeper to the thief. The balance is the Storekeeper has lost $200 because none of the transfers of ownership were legitimate. Whereas, the thief has seen $200 of goods and money pass that they have had no legal ownership of pass through their hands.

    • @godaistudios
      @godaistudios 15 днів тому

      I'm going to reverse the order to show you the problem here. The problem with your conclusion is that it ignores balancing the equation. Who possesses the initial stolen $100? The thief or the store? Since the thief gave the stolen $100 to the store in exchange for the goods and change, the store's till has the $100 inside of it. As such, the store only lost $100 not $200. The problem with your premise is that you ignore a critical point. Money is fungible. Let's try looking at the problem from a different angle. Let's assume you have a coworker. His name is John. John breaks into a locker at work, and steals a 100 bill from the boss's wallet. John goes to the store later and exchanges $100 and buys $70 in goods and gets $30 back in change. Did the store lose out, or did the boss? I think the answer is pretty clear here. For the store, the transaction was legitimate. And here's the thing. The cash register will record that transaction as legitimate no matter where that $100 came from.

    The easiest way to explain it is what if the thief stole the $100 after buying the goods? the shop loses $100. whether he stole the $100 before the transaction or after the transaction makes no difference the shop still loses $100😢 Although they did make a profit on the transaction

    I guess there's a brain teaser or a riddle I'd have to accept this if I were the stoner A store owner I would be out $200. The potential to gain a profit the retail sale of the products that were worth $70 retail plus the $30 that he got in charge that's $100 plus the register the till would be off by $100. To the store that's a $200 loss.

    • @catlordenzo
      @catlordenzo Місяць тому

      That doesn't really make sense, though. It's not possible for the store to lose more money than if the thief didn't buy anything. The original $100 makes it back in some way, and if you want to make the claim about the register being down $100, then you can't take the $70 away on top of it because it implies the store didn't know.
