Garlic in pots 🧄..
As like most of my onions etc ..once again I’m putting my garlic in pint size pots as can regulate how much water they get .. as had a few wet winters and run the risk of rotting in ground :. And after only a week they’re popping through…
Unusual warm weather has probably done this but happy their showing 🧄🧄🧄…

I think this is as far as I can take them now .. after the first frost 11.10.24… I’m pushing my luck really lol. But at least after dramatically cutting them back .. I’ve got some harvest out of them plus seed saving again as had some good tomatoes out of the new ones I grew ..

Well 3 weeks ago I drastically cut my tomotoe plants back .. all the leaves off and tops cut … Leaving the the tomatoes to ripen on the main stem … giving them a bit feed of compfrey liquid.. so staying alive and hopefully passing that goodness onto the tomatoes.. And thankfully they are changing colour slowly as the temperatures dropped quite drastically in the past 3 weeks … probably would ha...

Well not too bad .. probably got more off the gerkin as did get them in late after a fellow gardener kindly donated some .. Probably would have got more cucumbers if the ones I grew didn’t die on me from doing a new compost mix and ending up burning the roots (not do that again)… Stick to my tried and tested mix.. Sowing quite a bit mainly to overwinter and to feed my chickens .. normally it’s time to slow down but it’s becoming more of a thing now to try and extend the season .. And trying to use up old seed so I can buy fresh for next year .. pot luck if the seed germinates but I’d rather try than not .. did try celery last year .. didn’t work as being quite water based plant they froze and flopped ove...

Not been my best has had to harvest some sooner than I wanted as they were starting to rot .. would have been the same outside .. but even though their small harvested ones I’ll pickle them .. but the rest are still plodding away and hopefully the leeks in polytunnel provide me with some much needed crops over winter 🧅🧅🧅..

I’ve been asked on my social media accounts.. CAN I SOW NOW /IS IT TOO LATE .. Well even I must admit I’ve never sown in September but I had been thinking of doing it just to see .. And my seed packet says sow up to July .. Not that I play by the rules really .. So I’m giving it a go as still warm enough for germination .. HAPPY SOWING HAPPY GROWING 🥕🥕🥕..

If anyone had seen my progress I struggled with these this year.. bad germination..growing slow to the point I ended up buying some plants .. first time ever .. So the ones I started in may are doing great.. probably better if I’d thinned them out a bit more..but I had done 3 types of soil.. sand/compost..compost.. peat.. peat ended up being chucked as dried out to quick so no germination.. last 2 made me relize not to bother with sand .just homemade compost.. Well must admit I’ve got a bumper crop this year .. does show if you look after them they reward you with sweet bunches of grapes.. and I had been a bit lazy over the years just tieing up the vine with string which would snap from the weight of the vine and grapes… glad I eventually used nylon clothes line .. took home a shopping bag full and probably another 4 bags.. all going to be white wine...
Tomotoes pruning/blight🫣..🍅..drastic measures ..

Normally I’d leave my plants till end of September/oct… but I need to do a drastic pruning to help them ripen with more light as like most mine are still green sadly .. I’ve done it once with a few years ago and it didn’t seem to affect them so the whole lot is going this way … and to see blight was something on my mind considering the weather was perfect for it .. but thankfully near the end o...
Sowing lettuce that works every time 🥬into the winter season ..

I used this method time and time again.. along the way I’ve made mistakes mixing the rich soil up with my so called non rich and not knowing why my lettuce seeds wouldn’t germinate.. But then clicking on why lol… These new sowings will take me into the winter season as still warm enough to germinate and grow before temperatures cool towards autumn… I’d say it’s probably one of the easiest plant...

It’s a balmy 13c here Darren but jobs still to get done ✅. My asparagus is still green so once they die back I’ll manure the bed for winter. Blueberry 🫐 bushes can get quite large so you may need to move them before they establish too much. Sweet corn 🌽 not so swift 🤭🤭. Yahhh leaf mould collection time. @@briansgardenandpolytunnel8172 I’ll have a lookout for the seeds .. do love a new variety to grow
😂 if they don’t ripen then how come people take them in the house on the windowsill. I put some in a bag with a banana 🍌, wrapped some in newspaper and put some on the windowsill and all are ripening. Reason I took all mine off was the beds needed clearing out and the tomatoes were falling off 😢. I’ll have a million volunteers next year 😂😂. But as I always say Darren your garden your rules 👍. I picked my solitary cucumber today after the twine gave way, all that work for just one!. Couple of small squashes that Im feeding like crazy to try and get them big enough to eat. @@myrustygarden I’ve done nothing special lol.. shoved it in 7 years ago and let it do its thing 🍇🍇🍇
The smaller ones looks like the same variety I got from Wilko also , last year I waited until now(september) to pick and just like yours they were going bad, this year I started to harvest at the start of August(much better) and I`m beginning to get rotten ones just now as they are going over. I found the highest bunches at the ends ripened first ( just try one to see if sweet) . I was really brutal also, removing every second bunch while it was just in flower and also thinned out the grapes while they were small to allow the others to grow bigger. I found constantly removing all the extra growth and side shoots helps leaving only 2 leaves beyond each bunch . Grapes are a lot of work ! Thanks again
@@radiotowers1159 had seen on a UA-cam about thinning the grapes to encourage bigger ones…did prune back quite hard at start of year but still learning.. yes does seem to be bigger bunches near end of vine .. got more nylon clothes line to wind the grapevine along ..
