Fast, cheap way to plug a 35 mm hole in the cabinet door!😉👍🏻

I came across the situation, where I had to finish the job in timly manner. Had to plug 35 millimeter holes in the cabinet doors. Paint grade doors, meaning that the wood grain will not be visible. The cheapest kit is going for about $7.50 for a pair of plugs. I need to plug 10 doors, so about $75 for 10 kits plus tax, plus time and fuel to go to the specialized store. Well, the 35 millimeters ...

    Similar roll-on liquids are Redguard and Mapelastic CI. Also used to waterproof shower walls and floor. Instead, I used an uncoupling membrane, secured with modified thinset mortar. I used Laticrete Strata Mat since the best price I found ($1.37/ft2, Amazon) at the size I needed (170 ft2). A youtube shows another mat from USG at ~$1/ft2 but couldn't find where to buy it. I covered the entire slab since anywhere can crack in the future, indeed I didn't even see one thin crack until I rolled on Quickcrete Bonding Primer before leveling compound. Treating just the cracks and not the whole slab seems risky.

    Yep, have several TS 75 saws with 8 damaged cords all have identically same problem, Sadly this is a design used to sell product. Kinda like buying a Rolls-Royce and being charged for a small car for each service. Festool could easily redesign this part with a screw in grip connection to the inner

    Instead of dealing with the end grain (that will be obvious to anyone with eyes) you make a round template that, when combined with the proper straight bit, lets your router cut a perfect 35mm plug. Take a piece of 4/4 of the same species you're repairing, put tracks on the bottom of your brand new plug-cutting jig so you can make repetetive cuts in the same piece of lumber. Don't route the full depth of the material so the plugs stay pristine, and free them from their recess on the table saw. Easy peasy. Almost like I did it once or a hundred times in 35 years of cabinet making...

    • @edmundssondors3738
      @edmundssondors3738 Місяць тому

      @@ninaelwart9460 Yes, need a ladder or a step tool. Depends from what point do you start counting the time? To take one door off the hinges- about 5-7 minutes. Then I lay the door flat on sawhorses, clean all sides, sand if necessary, primer the spots where needed, screw in the screws in the bottom of the door, screw on L shape bracket to the top, lay down drop clothes. So about another 20 -40 minutes per door. Multiply the doors times the minutes per door and you will get approximately total time. Add time for painting, disassembly of this setup, clean up, clean the tools and equipment, installing hinges and door knobs. So 2- 3 days.

    If you want to get a 100% quality work, you need to put in a 100% of effort! The spraying is at about 90-95% of the process! The last 5% is drying.

  • @ErikisOfficial
    @ErikisOfficial 11 місяців тому

    When you spray the top do you give the edges a quick scuff with red or gray scotchbrite? Also do you think the finish would be better if you used a tip smaller than 2.0?

    • @edmundssondors3738
      @edmundssondors3738 11 місяців тому

      Of course! Thies are sanded, scuffed, cleaned, whipped and blasted with compressed air! For a raw wood I use basic sand paper, and usually the ones from the orbital sander. But after a primer/sanding sealer I use Klingspor spongee sanding pads!😉👍🏻

    • @edmundssondors3738
      @edmundssondors3738 11 місяців тому

      The finish comes out perfect! Water based paints will not spray with this setup unrelated to extreme. So I figured, maximum material could be delivered without thinning the paint! For this gun .2 was the biggest tip available. And water based paints take some time to dry, so it has enough time to level and not have the orange peel 😉👍🏻💪

    Great Job Edmunds Sondors This is the first time a see a person doing a video on how to treat concrete cracks and actually showing the results obtained from the treatment. Excellent job. Just for clarification: The area where you have the cracks was not treated at all or you used duct tape and mastic on that area. Price of membrane thin set after 4 years has gone up like everything. Thank you

      Thank you! About the cracked tile- the crack in the concrete was very small, hairline crack. I didn't fill with anything, and if I remember correctly, I probably applied one strip of ductape over the crack. Now I know that it's not enough. Possibly because of large tiles?

      Nothing was wrong with the setup. I was using a compressor and spray cup to paint. Not enough paint coverage. Should of used airless spray gun. Now days they have hand held compact airless spray guns. Watch out for windy conditions, so the dropcloth does not pick up the corners and stick to the fresh paint.

    I have the same one, same problem. Festool is pretty innovative, nice bells and whistles. But just junk plastic no fiber. People say- well your hard on tools, well no. 25 years of finish carpentry and architectural millwork and I can’t remember breaking ANY plastic. My POS festool ct22e has had 2 new hose garages and a base frame on a vac that rarely gets used. The receptacle on mine looks like it might be good for 5 amps. Just replace it with Makita, Fein or Mafell. Lot of Festool fanboys... but I say it’s garbage for garage cabinet makers. Some one saw mine on a job years ago and said “it looks like a printer” I said well it’s built like one for sure.
