Re-Creation performed at the Dayton VA recently for veterans interned there. They were nothing but awesome, they did patriotic songs from the 40's up to the 21stt century. Enjoy. High Energy, fast paced.
It takes a lot to put on a show like this, listen as these cadets talk about it.

    context is everything. During the inspection, not only did he find flaws, but he also let the Platoon Sgt view what he saw, THEN told them how to fix it. Speaking to each in the squad, he made them think about their goals regardless what they are. The squad members will go far with his guidance.

    I served with John in USS MOUNT VERNON when I was a Lieutenant Commander and he was a new Limited Duty Officer Ensign. He was Ship's Boatswan and I was its First Lieutenant. We were a good team and I learned much from Jon. The "Mickey Vee" was my best sea tour. Jon was all about professional development. His, mine, our First Class petty officers, our junior sailors. He was a Boatswain's Mate's Bos'n, and a very fine human being. Think kindly of him often and I expect to see him in heaven some day.

    The inspector was so nice, on my first drill inspection I had a Marine Officer yelling and spitting at my face, my legs were shaking because it was my first experience having a tough inspection. But still I got a perfect score 😎

      Your first inspection was the way military inspections are suppose to be. By the way, the inspector of your first one was not an officer but you were to refer to him as if he was an officer.

    “Beauty school.” That threw him for a loop! 😂 For those who were expecting him to come out yelling and carrying on, he’s retired and huge. He understands that these cadets would’ve probably been blown away if he had been yelling, especially indoors. His way of talking to them set a good example of temperance at the same time they knew that he could be a loose cannon at the drop of a hat and they were kind of expecting it. Had he wanted to bust them out he sure had plenty to go by, but I don’t think that was his goal. It’s one inspection that I’m sure that they will remember for a long time. My favorite inspection was when my Battery 1SG, a bear of a man, Black Hat, HALO, Rigger, Jump Master and Path Finder, etc., the guy had more wings than a flock of birds. He also had bad hearing that required hearing aids. Before he got them he yelled all the time because he literally couldn’t hear himself and was crabby as hell! So he got the hearing aids, and he chilled for the most part. At this particular inspection he came out and started inspecting the HQ Platoon and he gets to one of the medics who was a joker. He asked him how he was doing and the medic moves his lips like he’s talking but doesn’t really say anything. The 1SG asked him to repeat himself, so this guy does it again without say a word, just moving his lips! The 1SG looked perplexed and suddenly starts to wack his hearing aids and says, “Damn batteries!” And leaves the formation and ran inside the building! 😂😂🤣🤣 The Platoon Sgt, who like the rest of us realized that the medic was messing around, looked at him and said, “Your ass is mine!” 😂😂🤣🤣 The 1SG sent word that the Platoon Sgts finish the inspections. He never found out, at least from anyone I knew there, what had happened. That was hilarious.

    I’m to young, but this a story that I was told by a soldier who fought in Vietnam he was a real soldier, who really seen action. One morning working with him in the late 80s, we’re in the break room in a factory, it was one of those foggy early mornings on third shift, he went out from the building to go over to another building to the maintenance department, he was a maintenance man, I only one left in break room, he came back in WHITE AS A GHOST, with a blank face, like he was scared to death, The first words he said was, I SMELL DEATH repeating it over and over, I gave him a cup of coffee that just bought, he sat down, after a will he look at me and said, DAMN WAR, I ask him if he was ok, he said ya, then Johnny and I got up and walk over to the maintenance building, when we was over there, he told me, will over there he had to call for a air strike on their position, he was a radio man, you see they was being over ran by the Viet Kong, I told him Johnny look at the men who you saved, if you didn’t do that you or anyone else probably wouldn’t be here, and there wasn’t anything else said, those young brave men, who never talk about what they did over there, but they did what they had too, THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, WHO KEEP THIS IN SIDE OF YOU, THANKS FOR YOUR BRAVERY, Jeff Howard

    SOG stands for Studies and Observation Group not Special Operations Group. Doing a documentary it seems you would be aware of that.

    • @rider660r
      @rider660r 7 місяців тому

      In a way you're right,but you're also wrong. When SOG started it was named Special Operations Group. It changed after people outside the circle caught on to what it was. Being interested in it it seems you'd known this as it is documented in numerous books etc.
