A man who really loves Oldtime Music!!
Whoever remastered this did a good job on the audio. Yeah, there's a buzz, but judging from the video this is 'bout as good as it could get. Also, this dude loves pluckin at the fiddle. I bet he played a mean cluck ol hen. ><
Bert Hatfield was my neighbor set with my bedroom window open a many nights listening to them play.
Bert Hatfield was my uncle. Great guy! Always amazed me when they played in the kitchen 💕 we would come in from VA and his buddies would come over. My cousin and I used to sit on that freezer and watch them play.
Great way to start my day...Charlie , Ol Miss Tucker and a fiddle! !!
We did enjoy this Montez McCamish here 270 checking in hope you all have a great day Kentucky Strong

Historical audio.
Yes, this is a treasure.
Two of my favorite gal singers.
I come back to this every few years, and always appreciate it even more...
Thank you for sharing. This helps keep my families history alive. He passed away today heaven gained a wonderful man. You will be missed Uncle Clyde.
Your uncle certain appeared to be an upright outstanding earnest Man & musician. Spent my best years up in rural Kentucky out'n Dawson Springs. I can only appreciate true music of my state like this & none of that modern garbage. Peace to your & fam Bol'!
You’re lucky man. All my family was Church of Christ, adamantly opposed to music no one cool lol. I love this guy’s music so much
Amazing. Just subbed. 🙂
Eden DIYs and lifeStyle you’re so nice, thanks 😊
@@JesseRayWells you too🙂.best of luck.
A little tentative at the start, but moves along nicely. ;)
Where did you come across this at?
My great granddaddy played around pike county William Riley Patrick. Was snake related to any chapmans around belfry ? A Woodrow or Nellie Chapman???
Beautiful soulful hill music that tugs at one’s heart strings. Love it. Makes me hillbilly proud!
Beverly Smith on the other fiddle. Alex Scala on bass. Jack Fontanella on guitar.
Babies! I feel like I'm about a hundred and ten years old now....
nice to hear richie play something w out funk beats. he slays.
I'm pretty sure I've watched this video at least a hundred times so I figured I should take the time to thank you for recording and posting it. Bert Hatfield was my grandfather and I have fond memories of him and his buddies playing music together when my mom would take us there to visit when I was a kid. My dream was to one day be able to play with those guys and my dream finally came true one day in the lat 80's when I was a teenager and I could play well enough to follow along. Thanks again for posting--I'm sure I'll watch it a few hundred more times.
Bert Hatfield was my great uncle..and I too remember visiting thir house and all he guys playing in the kitchen. I was amazed 😍 great memories!!!
Thanks for sharing this video. We had heard about these distant relatives. This video was a hit at our family gathering.
Alex!
T B khmersuu ongl
huh?
"Well, I hope that fiddle remembers some of that. Load it up!!" --- hilarious :)
At about 0:36 there is a short bit of a song that sounds like Greasy Coat, but the fine part is quite different. Is it just another version or a different song?
That first tune is Greasy String
Thanks!
First tune is also called Turkey Buzzard in places.
Thank you John for doing this wonderful song about two men that made a musical mark on my life.
Yes! So darn good.
gosh unbelievable how good they were at such a tender age. love seeing Dirk Powell and Riley Baugus so young
reply to k2ombs...that was a bass from a nearby jam.
Charlie and Noah are distant relatives of mine. As a child, I remember visiting them once and I can still remember the art. It made an impression on me that they still lived without electricity. I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet them before they passed away.
Thanks for posting these Jesse. I'd heard of the Kinneys from friends but had no idea how fabulous they were. They were so wonderful I almost can't take it.
I had the pleasure of getting to know these brothers. We spent time in their home both the new and the old cabin that Charlie preferred and was where he kept some of his art work. A supremely talented man was he. The Smithsonian came in and did quite a bit of filming. Charlie was also a palm reader of some note.
Wow and then wow again. I've a smile on my face that won't go away. We need more of this.
Weirddd.
Excellent!
My dad Noah Williams used to play with Snake Chapman and Bert Hatfield. They were in a band when I was very young. I learned to walk at Bert's house. Good memories from hearing them play again.
Great players and as a fiddle player Snake is a particular favourite. We're playing his tunes here in Donegal, Ireland. Also had the pleasure of playing some Snake tunes with some other musicians in the home of fiddle maker Otis Thomas in Cape Breton several years ago. Super playing and fine tunes
Amazing playing his tunes from Ireland. This really put a smile on my face and joy to my soul.
Thanks Jesse, this was my great great uncles and I didn't know this existed. Awesome.
Incredible! Love folk history.
Where do I buy these??? all I can find online are the small ones roughly 10" tall....im looking for the larger ones like these. like little people lol
+Ben Burnett Pretty easy to make!
The song was written by Cecil Crank, a wonderful old-time fiddler and banjo player from Carter Co., KY.
I knew Cecil and his family well and I will always miss him. Cecil made me a dulcimer which I treasure.
I'm SOOOO glad you shared this video. When was it filmed? Are these wonderful people still around doing this?
True love! :D
saaaaweeeeeeeet!
Thanks never heard this version
Wow, just wow! These guys have been so good for so long.
Great fiddling and great banjo. Wonder how they came to sit down and play together. Richie Stearns has added a new dimension to claw, that's for sure.
Hey, I'm the Glenn Patterson (Montreal) that he mentions along with my friend Kaitlyn at the beginning of the video. John is a great guy and a huge influence on me. We have some good memories from down there and hope to see you Jesse and Brett and Carly-Dawn again at Cowan in the near future. Not sure if you
Bev!
10 minutes of john browns dream--a bit of heaven listening to these guys! i think our campsite was about 20 feet away...
