Bikepacking to Argentina : Mid Season Finale
After some thought. I decided that I would postpone my trip. With money problems and all the heat waves and heat domes that were going on in Mexico, I thought it would be best not to drag Mikoto through all that.
This video is about my time in San Diego waiting around for my bike to get repaired and for me to get a flight out back to Canada to wait for cooler weather and make some money.
The plan from here is to wait till October for the cooler weather. fly back to San Diego, where I got a U-haul storage container to store my bike, and head out down the Baja Divide and finish my journey.
So this is kind of a mid season finale of The Lonely Road.
I appreciate everyone that followed and has been watching and interacting with me. We will be getting back at it in October.

Bikepacking to Argentina : Texas Desert

It's hot out. Bikepacking in this kind of weather is bonkers. Seriously, when it's 45c out and the wind feels makes it feel like you are in an air fryer it's not fun. Then factor in the fact there are trees few and far between. Shade is an elusive resource. All the more so when your going to spend the next 20 minutes trying to fix your tube. Spending your precious water, looking for that micro ...

I'm finally back on the bicycle. It feels good to be out bikepacking again. I can't believe how hot it is out here. Some of the temps are hitting 38c and this week it's supposed to hit 45c. I'm not sure if my Canadian blood can even exist in that kind of temperature. Mikoto and I have been mostly travelling by night. It's the only way. I tried doing an all day ride and I just got dizzy and with...

Greetings from the Lone Star State, Approaching the Texan frontier, my mind brimmed with anticipation. Visions of a stark desert landscape, the whimsy of tumbleweeds, and the quest for shade occupied my thoughts. But as I traversed the threshold, I was met not with arid expanses, but a tapestry of verdant trees, fields abloom with blue bonnets, and the gentle undulations of rolling hills. East ...

I had a phone call with my mom the other day, that mostly inspired this. It's weird how it can feel like a life time has passed since I've been home, but the memory of leaving is so fresh it feel like yesterday. I've barely scratched the surface of my bikepacking journey. I've not even made it out of the United Sates. I'm currently in Texas making my way to Austin and then towards the Grand Can...
Bikepacking to Argentina : Farewell New Orleans #bikepacking

My first major stop on this bikepacking adventure, New Orleans. what an unforgettable time I had here. I felt like this was a place I could have stayed for a very long time, if not forever. But it's hard to totally block out the siren call of the road. So after a week it was time to leave. No easy task. Next up is: Texas and the desert. I've never been to a desert. I'm both terrified and intrig...

An aesthetic vlog about my bikepacking trip to Argentina from Canada, with my dog, Mikoto. A 3 year old long-haired Weimaraner. We've been on the road for 9 weeks now. Started at the Detroit border and have been working our way south towards New Orleans. This episode marks a new way I want to present my travels. I didn't quite like the way I was doing my videos before. The theme is postcards to...
Bikepacking Canada to Argentina with my Dog

The third installment of 'the Lonely Road' bikepacking to Argentina from Canada. We get caught up in some freezing temps as we pass through Kentucky and Tennessee. Cycling through the cold weather takes a lot out of us. This episode is a bit shorter, as the cold really kept the batteries low, and sapped my motivation to get out and film. In Nashville we were invited to a house show, and at the ...

What a great dream to live.
So glad I found your channel. I'm a cyclist just not long distance but I love the content. I'm going to start at the beginning to see all your content. Thank you so much. Kind regards.
Do you feed strictly kibble to mikoto or do you mix it up with regular food? I was thinking it would be easier to find things like pumpkin and rice etc sometimes on the road. I’ll be heading out soon with a dog …
@@Morningcycles ya I usually carry like 15lbs or so of kibble. I also carry some butter or olive oil to pour on the kibble for extra calories. Rice and pumpkin would be good for filler, but when your dog is doing a lot of exercise they need fat and protein to build muscle and get fit. Pretty much the most important part.
So awesome! I’m heading out soon and you have been so helpful and inspiring! You’re so transparent and authentic…. Some videos in between would be great…. Will be watching either way! Delays are not deadly and regrouping is part of the journey.
@@Morningcycles Well, good luck! Have fun. Check paws everyday. Lol I think I'm going to try and post one or two videos of treeplanting (my job). To keep up the practice.
Keep at it and good luck. The road is long with many twists and turns - hope to see you in September.
Video and editing in this was finally at a level enjoyable to watch. Going back to BC to save up your money the smartest choice. As I watched I was actually thinking finding a job where you were for a few months would be an obvious choice. Look forward to the continuing journey.
Thanks man. Anything in particular you liked. I actually felt like this was one of my crappier videos. Lol Appreciate any feedback.
Awesome doggie. New sub from Buenos Aires :)
Thanks for the sub!
Super cool video, really enjoyed it! See you in September !
That's good to hear. I'm always trying to get a little bit better.
Nice meeting you when you were in San Diego.
See you in September, stay safe
TY for the story! I'll pick it back up with you come October!
❤
Great video, Thank you!
Yeah, wrong season.
Ya. Wasn't a great choice. I had a few hiccups along the way that really cost me some time
How is it pulling the single wheel trailer so far?
It's not bad when my dog isn't in it. Lol it's a terrible trailer for a dog though, and I curse itm
Fully loaded touring bike with trailer WITH 40-50 lb dog. Absolutely hardcore adventure. All my best wishes to you friend. Keep pushing and be safe!
LUT is awesome, want it!
Great visual storytelling. Love the honesty in the heat - 45 degree furnace on the road ... time to find the shade. Look forward to the coast.
Do you have to have the trailer registered, nr plate ?
No I picked it up on the side of the road as a souvenir.
very impressive :-)
Way to keep up spirits. Texas is brutal on bike tires!
I've never experienced anything like it.
Consider Schwalbe Marathon series tires if you do not like getting flats! I have used them for years without a single puncture driving over broken glass in the city.
Will do. I'll check 'em out.
i figure about 10% of those on the road in the open south want to scare you or are angry at you.. the other 90% don't care or don't know how to drive.. and are looking at you.. hence driving toward you. I have a friend.. and he does the rides across the northern part of the country east to west.. west to east and does not have this problem.. stay north !
Muy buen video! Sigue así! Cuidate! Abrazos desde España! Te seguimos en tu ruta!Ánimo!!!
Your video is beautiful; I really loved all the cinematic scenes. West Texas and the southwest desert areas have a certain beauty to them, and you perfectly captured it! I am subscribing and following you now. Any time the air temperature exceeds your core temperature, the breeze won't cool you off. In fact, prolonged exposure to hot air has the reverse effect of heating you up even further than no breeze at all. It's the exact opposite of wind chill-it's a wind oven. That's why it is better for motorcyclists to use full leather at high temperatures, as the high relative wind generated by motorcycles can be deadly. But most people don't believe that and think on hot days you should ride in shorts and a T-shirt...
That makes a lot of sense. Ya there is an appreciation for the bleak and desolate desert I formed. It's so far removed from the rivers and forests I usually see in Canada
just found you.. enjoyed the last couple videos.. thanks for sharing
If you get a new tire, schwalbe makes the Pick Ups in a 20 inch version. Great tire for puncture protection.
Be safe out there ! Hi from NY ✌
Thanks. I kinda live a safety third kind of life. Haha
I don't know if you tour with a rear view mirror but if you ride out in the road (when its clear) the automobiles squash thorns out in the road leaving you a puncture free path.
Wonderful I admire your will to bike on the conditions COLD!!!!!!!!!!!! you doing great! keep going.
Hi you've said it makes you really nervous on the roads in the states, know how it feels. South Africa is the worst the motorist, or alot will dilibrety run you out of the road. Had even young guys came straight forward head on head to me. Don't know why people have to be like that.
Hmm, if you use a plastic bottle then it's yours and thou shall not leave it.
That's generally true. But if I'm 80km from the nearest place and I have no room. Not much I can dom
It's tough but you are managing. Hat's off to you.
The drone shots are stunning. Thank you for sharing
Agreed
Thanks I've been practicing on how to make em look better.
look so good
Thank you sir!
Were you camping at Davis Mountains State Park this week?
I was indeed!
@@thelonelyroad I work there and passed by your campsite. Recognized your setup in the video! Safe travels 🤟🏼
I just found this off of your redditt link. I am 68 and still dreaming about a bike ride like you are doing. Not as tough but a good long one without deep freezes. God bless and protect you and your good partner.
following you from Belgium...very inspiring...

You better buy a lot patches and you well be a professional fart tires fixer upper lol have great day 😂🎉
I've gone through 20 and 4 tubes. I've promised myself as soon as I get to a bike shop I'm going tubeless. I was getting pretty discouraged on one stretch of the road. I also used my air pump so many times it broke. I had to replace it yesterday.
