In 2021, the Cork Traveller Visibility Group completed a Healthy Ireland-funded project on the impact of discrimination on young Travellers' mental health and wellbeing. Here are the main findings from our report.
TVG project: Little Bags of Hope
Переглядів 1914 роки тому
In Autumn 2019, TVG Traveller primary health care workers Eileen Burke (Pavee Point/TVG Domestic and sexual gender-based violence awareness worker) and Jean O'Donoghue (community health worker) started meeting with Traveller women's groups across Cork city, making the little bags of Hope to raise awareness about self-care, women's rights to a life free of violence, and about seeking help. Well done for all the continued work all the travellers and settled people do to improve the lives of travellers. Long way to go to be accepted and treated humanly in society. Systematic discrimination against indigenous nomads of this country just isn't right. Never was, never will be. #travellerlivesmatter. The government must take accountability for people lives. People must be educated relevantly in their natural environment employing those in the travellering community to allow equal opportunities aswell as a national travellers housing programme. That would be an excellent start in the right direction. Well done all involved.

What country is this that you are allowed to abuse these animals like this? And yes It is abuse, I raised, trained, drove horses an races for 30 years, we would never ever think of driving a horse on pavement other than crossing the pavement while walking them. And that so called farrier, that’s a fkn joke. When you shoe a horse you fit the shoe to the horses hoof not the hoof to the shoe. When you nail it on you use a clinch block on nails then clinch them, finally rasping off the nail heads nice and smooth. That idiot put the should 1/2 to 3/4” back off the toe, that was one of the worst I ever seen. Disgrace.

I guess the female travelers who adore horses get to stand around and watch….just lovely. Most of the guys on horseback were far too large for the ponies they were burdening, and I couldn’t watch the horses trotting to hard on the paved roads. They were really thin, as well.

A very romantizied view. Horses are being raced far too young (6 months upwards) and often handled roughly. Sad really that this issue is not being addressed in the video.

Great Film, love the bond between the boy and his horse...but im worried about that no one wears a Helmet....then i saw the picture from Patrick MC carthy, and i read that he died from Head injuries after falling from his horse. They are riding on the Street with no Helmets, the young Kids too.thats sad

If you can believe it..gypsies are often reported for abusing their horses. They think more of their horses than some house dwellers do of their own children..and treat them better too boot. The stables are cleaner than some houses I have been in..including mine. 😀😉

  • @jackcumming3663

If you think their language is difficult..try talking to a native born glaswegian. I once had a conversation with a glaswegian In a bar..the only word i understood was trout..as for the test..i just nodded along and smiled when he did. I was playing catch up at every word. It was like trying to catch a runway horse..boy he spoke fast. I could see the glasses rattling on the bar as he spoke in rapid sentences. The draft from his mouth blew the head off of my beer and formed a whirlpool in my pint glass. And some people think they are lazy...joking right ?

Travellers horses left tethered on waste ground near industrial estates, old factories and power stations here in the UK. Never seen anyone go check on them. Saw two left near where I work on the shore of an estuary, high tide and rain came and the pair were almost lost, had to be rescued by the local farmers. This video is a bit far fetched, obviously for people who know no better. The trad music is a bit of a laugh too, never seen it played in Ireland except for the tourists, local people don't bother with it. Anyone with anything about them leaves the country, people are Irelands biggest export. Travellers just give the Irish community here in the UK a bad name.

Re the horses, what you've seen I'll accept, but if you want to be believed, stick to the things you really know about and dont be making generalisations about things you dont.
