39 in 1 Multicade JAMMA PCB Gameplay - Jr. Pac-Man (Fast Speed)
Gameplay of Jr. Pac-Man on the 39 in 1 JAMMA PCB at fast speed.
Fun fact: A 39 in 1 at a campground was my first exposure to both Jr. Pac-Man and the 39 in 1, or even a JAMMA-based multicade PCB at all. I actually assumed this game was a fan made rom hack and the cabinet was some weird MAME cabinet with a strange frontend until I learned that Jr. Pac was a real game (turns out Namco actually was fine with it unlike what I thought before too) and the xx-in-1 JAMMA boards existed at all.

Gameplay of Super Pac-Man on the 39 in 1 JAMMA PCB, on Set 1. Supposedly the speed of the game (likely Super Pac speed) is higher in one of the sets. I'm not really amazing at this game but I'm not terrible at it either. It's still a great underrated experimental sequel imo, even if Ms. Pac fits as a perfect "traditional" sequel to Pac-Man.

Gameplay of Crush Roller on the 39 in 1 JAMMA PCB. Please excuse my poor performance on the game, it's an oddly brutal game after the first level, but admittedly I made some poor moves at times. VGA splitter from the board, one end going to the monitor, other end going to a VGA to HDMI converter. Hustler. Do the 48 in 1 boards have better sound emulation than the 60 in 1 boards?

    • @multicademaniac
      @multicademaniac 6 місяців тому

      That's a good question. Unfortunately I do not have a 48 in 1 board yet. I do however have a 39 in 1 board and several older boards (some 9 in 1s and a 4 in 1) In terms of sound emulation, galaxian-based games (Galaxian and Moon Cresta) have better sounding pitches but still aren't quite right... beats out the awful pitch those games have on the 60 in 1 though, that's for sure. The missile fire sound which is missing in the 60 in 1 is present on my 39 in 1. The explosion sound is still pretty loud though so that's still an issue. But if you're looking for improvements in Scramble, Super Cobra, or Time Pilot then unfortunately not much changed there. 1942, Gyruss, all those are still plagued with the iconic distorted sound. I don't know if they're nearly as distorted as on the 60 in 1 so I might consider recording gameplay footage from both boards and comparing them... I will say though that I have two 39 in 1s and my secondary one has the same issues Galaxian faces on the 60 in 1. Either a later revision messed it all up or it's a product of the "B" quality board.

    • @multicademaniac
      @multicademaniac 7 місяців тому

      @@CosmicToons Basically the A variant is the "original" board whereas the B variant is a clone made using cheaper components afaik. The B variants only started popping up when the 39 in 1 got a fair bit more popular as they weren't ever made for the earlier 9 in 1s, 4 in 1s, 3 in 1s, etc. The B boards were supposedly rife with issues like the aforementioned lower sound quality, lower lifespan than the A variants, and a fair bit more issues (Galaxian-hardware based games have a far lower sound pitch on my B variant than my A variant, the pitch is more like the 60 in 1's there.)... My B variant board actually has a bug in the menu where the "Select" text at the bottom is put where the game name is supposed to be so there's that -- though that may be because of the newer firmware version it has compared to my A variant board. It's also notable that it's pretty hard to tell A variant boards from B variant boards without playing them -- at least in the case of the 39 in 1.

I was able to get it running on MAME and at an okay (but not great) framerate but it isn't a great experience, definitely needs further work. I have one of them installed in a cabinet right now (that cabinet is not an old one though so the purists can rest easy there), I do swap them out at times. I have planned to record gameplay + attract modes and document quirks/other things of interest from each of the boards as for these older boards trying to find literally anything without digging is a difficult ordeal. The older you get with the board (39 in 1 compared to older 4 in 1) the worse that problem gets. Even with digging I can hardly find things for the 9 in 1 or 4 in 1 outside of a few short videos. -Side note: Apparently a 3-in-1 sold on the KLOV forums not too long ago and I was NOT aware of it at all... could've actually gotten it and done a rip. -*-pain-*

    I hope the HQ version of this gets found someday, it is by far my favorite multicade theme. I like to think that Jakub Koter did this one, since they did the 60-in-1 music and the alternate 4-in-1 to 48-in-1 music.

      Saw your find on the "Music Mode 2" source. I've been searching through Flashkit loops on archive.org and I believe I found some by calpomatt that were used on the old 3-in-1 PCBs as well as one suspiciously used by I.A.M. for a multi-slot PCB that has a SUSPICIOUSLY similar menu to the multicade pcbs (only lending more credence to a theory of mine... I.A.M. or some company connected to them might have made these boards but that's just a theory) So it very well could be Jakub Koter but he isn't the only one who had their loops used. Side note: The 60 in 1 music is known as "exluna" by Jakub Koter according to the site "KitLoops" (kitloops.rf.gd), not sure if many people know that. Also the "Music Mode 2" track might actually be called "Jakub Koter" as it is notably used on his website as a "theme" of sorts. Obviously I can't find a 3-in-1 PCB at this time due to their rarity (I would love to one day though) but if you wish I can upload high quality versions of whatever I find that hasn't already been uploaded.

      @@multicademaniac Oh and about that last part, go right ahead! It'd be nice to see more multicade music archival! Also this might be a redundant question to ask, since the HQ version has already resurfaced, but... can you upload the 60-in-1 version of Exluna in the future?

      @@CosmicToons I've been planning to do the 60 in 1's (not the HQ version, the rip from the board itself). When I'll get around to it is something I don't know but hopefully my capture tools cooperate with me when I can. And yes, the calpomatt ones I found will have to be their HQ versions as the 3 in 1s as well as the PXA255-powered I.A.M. multislot PCBs are rare as hell and all I really have are videos to go off of for their music.
