Foreign Power Galore! - The Very Best of Unit Trains
Unit trains are trains carrying a single product or raw material. Because of their long routes, they often have run through power, or locomotives from other railroads that are left on for the entire duration of the trip. In this video, we take a look at some of my best unit train catches!

Переглядів 1,7 тис.11 місяців тому
Make sure to watch the original video if you haven't already! ua-cam.com/video/v-InzstJXiI/v-deo.html This video shows what the CC subdivision looks like between Visalia and Ryland Heights after CSX removed main #2 back in July 2022. Since the filming of that video, the ties have been removed and a small storage track as been added for maintenance equipment. Amazingly, the searchlight signals r...
The Old and the New - 2 Generations Of Standard Cabs On 1 Train
Переглядів 514Рік тому
CSX M541 had quite the lash-up on June 11, 2023. First was CSX #9280, the only operating standard cab dash 8 on the CSX roster. Right behind that was 3 SD23T4s. These are basically an SD40-2 car body with a GEVO prime mover inside of them. We would catch the train in a few locations as we admired this unique lash-up!
Detailed Look at a CSX C40-9W
Переглядів 164Рік тому
CSX has 53 C40-9W locomotives numbered 9000-9052. These Dash 9s are unique from all other Dash 9 models. At first glance, one might mistake them for a Dash 8, and there's a good reason for this. They were built as early production units and were originally part of the previous Dash 8 series, receiving the model designation C44-8W. This is why they feature the GSC Dash 8 trucks instead of the Hi...

BNSF Warbonnet Leads on the CSX CC Subdivision
Переглядів 261Рік тому
BNSF 738 led CSX B631 on its way to Tampa, FL. Also in the consist was BNSF 1120 supporting the H1 paint scheme. I caught the train in 2 locations along CSX's scenic CC Subdivision. The first location was in Ryland Heights, KY at the Lambs Ferry twin tunnels. You can see the recently cut and removed main 2 in a few of the shots of the train going away. The second location was in Hayes, KY at th...
2022 Autumn Colors Express Visits Cincinnati
Переглядів 60Рік тому
In the early hours of October 24, 2022, the Autumn Colors Express passed through Cincinnati on its return trip to Chicago. It departed Huntington, WV at 11:00 PM and followed right behind Amtrak 51 (Cardinal) all the way to Chicago. We first caught the train doing its max speed of 79 MPH in Melbourne, KY. We then caught the train entering Cincinnati, giving us a good view of the 18 private cars.

Trains in the Street! - Afternoon Railfanning in La Grange, KY
Why would they remove the main portion of a siding forcing all traffic through the diversion? Assuming they will re-align the main for straight running?
That's CSX for you. They still have not re-aligned it.
B731 sounds good!!
Есть такая причина когда путь сам ложиться так как не нужно он называется выброс пути рельсы и это очень смертельно опасно может человека убить или устроить крушение поезда не важно какого.
Must've been a change sometime with upper management!
ooh snap on truck at @1:02
I hate seeing rail ripped up you can't tell me it not cheaper getting thing by rail.
I loaded scrap ties at Paris, KY and Cynthiana back in the 90's. Trucker them over from Morgan, KY. What a goat path🐐 road that was.
Thank you for the web site
Great I never seen rail removed like is its fantastic thanks
I've seen too many pencil pushers making decisions about abandoning track when they haven't got a clue, pull up double main track and lo and behold couple years later they're going oh shit we shouldn't have done that, that's what happens when you hire fry Cooks McDonald's to run a Railroad, most of them wouldn't know a tie plate from a track hammer but they can tell you what temperature the oil should be in the deep fryer when they throw the fries in LOL
CM44ACs are awesome
csx always has been bad at management, it was when i worked there from 1998 to 2010. I worked chicago division, great lakes and huntington divisions. It got pretty good between 2008 to 2009 on huntington division. then everything started going down hill when coal traffic took dropped because of president elected in 2008.
More EHH followers at work. But with the fall of coal, I shouldn't be surprised. Most through traffic between Atlanta and Cincinnati I think runs via Nashville now. That track 2 being added could be a signalled siding being put in to help for the loss of double track. How long was that stretch of double track?
@milepost4846 This double track section was about 6.8 miles in length with a crossover in the middle. If you are referring to my update comment, the rail being reinstalled is just a storage track extending about 1,000 ft to the north for maintenance equipment. They have since removed all the rails and ties for the entirety of track 2, including in the tunnel.
1:45 Surprised there are still searchlight signals from the old L&N.
They are indeed a dying breed.
This was once CSX’s busiest mainline on the system, and one of only two subdivisions (the other being the Fitzgerald Sub) that warranted its own dedicated dispatcher. Thanks to piss poor management and “PSR” running off business, the traffic has fallen off across the system. A shame. Glad I was able to watch this railroad back in the early 2000’s before it went to s***. It’s sadly a shell of its former self now.
What an awesome LONGGGG TRAIN 🤯😵😱 WITH 15 LOCOS GOING TO THE SCRAPPER 😭😭😭😭, GREAT VIDEO, 😁😉👌👍
They cane through LaGrange the other day.
@Roz-90 Yeah this was further north on that line
It’s crazy you can see that Chessie logo fading through
On what locomotive
Scrap values are low. Something must be really wrong, like damaged frame. The GP-38-40s are still a valued, serviceable piece of equipment. 🚂
Probably needs a fully rebuild at Progress-EMD which, depending how long it was sitting, might simply not be worth the investment.
It doesn't mean they're going to be scrapped. They could be going to a scrapper, but some of the power could be sold later. I don't think one of the GP38s has a motor in it. Two switchers were UP rebuilt SW9s. The BNSF is a SW1500 that had been converted to an unpowered remote controller. The last unit is a MP15T. It's an 8 cylinder turbo 645. The other thing to think about is how long they've been sitting. UP hasn't used SD45s in many years. They hold onto them in case they need them. BNSF used storage units as remote control unpowered units so they could use larger motors without converting them. KCS used storage units as ECO converts. WATCO tried using GP30s as slugs. BN used scrap GP30s and GP35s as GP39 rebuilds. All had the center fan removed. Some of the GP30s had their cabs changed to the standard cab.
Death train :(
When you have a train full of dead locomotives, it's often referred to as a funeral train.
Man, just like many of their steam breathing predecessors, they're being sent off to scrap.
I'm going to renumber one of the CSX GP's on my layout after one of those old girls. Tribute.
CSX is still using MP15Ts, so I wonder what was wrong with the one being hauled off to LTEX. Blown turbo or something of a more serious nature that resulted in it being written off?
The header reads 16 Engines , So I am guessing the last engine is not being scrapped !
@cris_261 I believe MP15T 1234 is still owned by CSX and just happened to be part of this move.
I think it’s just part of the move, it’s not labeled for LTEX and it looks far too clean to be headed for scrap.
@@smakfu1375you'd be surprised what gets scrapped, lots of newly painted BNSF locos in Glendive that will get scrapped one day
by looking at them some of them have rusted out pretty badly.
It's too bad that some of them aren't headed to museums. Guess scrap value is more than LTEX could write off in donations.
The noses would make a great wall mount
0:18 A STEALTH GRAY LOCOMOTIVE?!?!?
Yep!
What a sad ending to some great locomotives
Amen!
Well I know there’s a reason
Congrats on 1000 subs
So sadddd
😊
Hopefully they don’t board up or fill in tunnel 2. Not only is it historic, it enables safe railfan trespassing for once in the history of the L&N. If one has made a special effort to get out to Lambs Ferry Rd and/or Locust Pike to see these beauties they can safely take a stroll through tunnel 2, in order to avoid the danger of being caught in the middle of tunnel 1 with a train approaching.
Might I add, I grew up right next to Decoursey Yard and this makes me just as sad as when the old yard house burned down. What are we losing by reverting to a single track railway? Not that it matters much but it will be much more difficult to ever add any passenger service back to the line without major investment (not that this was ever even remotely on the table. Thanks for sharing this with us, I am glad that someone else cares about this also; as I now live in the only city in America where four different railways in passenger revenue service do not intersect with each other, two of the four railways are different gauges, and none of them can share their respective equipment. Too far to do this myself.

Excellent!!!!
Sad times
Lmao wtf is wrong with the comments, And Nice Footage of 475!
Perhaps CSX is just trying to take rail where it can be spared to use on Pan Am while new steel prices are inflated. I believe they have since replaced some of this.
A lot of that rail cane to collinwood yard in Cleveland in a rail renewal project they did.
Incidentally, 4036 is the former L&N 8012. Probably operated through here numerous times.
Strasburg
Question after the abandoned railroad tracks got removed. Did they make a bicycle path?
No, as they only removed one track. The other track is still in service.
Sweet catch. I caught one of these(CSX 9039) yesterday morning trailing on a WB UP manifest. Like my third or fourth one I caught since Railfanning.

Indeed!
Excellent video of a Warbonnet coming out of Lambs Ferry. The overcast really makes the color pop. Super photography and videography. This is one spot I still haven't been to since I started back railfanning nearly 8 months ago.
Thanks so much! Lambs Ferry is indeed a very cool spot, though it is a bit sad now because track 2 has been removed north and south of the tunnel.
Sick catches!
Odd they are removing the main and not the siding. I assume they will realign the track so its direct. Also I believe RR should be exempt from local property taxes as the localities provide no benefit. And trucks use tax payer supplied roads and don't pay property taxes...so the system is backwards.
Imagine if it whistled in the camera
Fascinating documentation!!
Very beautiful 👍
