Im from the Pine Ridge reservation and I was raised going back and forth reservations I can tell you I never heard of such a thing as two spirit until 2018! Is some kind of fabrication of political doing, along side drag queens, and sex changes. I don't support this but I don't want to see anyone hurt either.

Two spirit people have a long history of having a place in their tribes. When the Christian missionaries came in they preached only man and only woman and nothing else. As LGBTQIA+ rights became more socially accepted the tribes that took on the Christian identities are late in accepting the social changes. As a two spirit Native person it hurts me to see other Natives be hurtful and not accept who we are and not accept our place in our tribes. It’s sad that I find more acceptance in my non Native society than my home Native land! I am glad to see changes happening more and more thou in native tribes!

Brings heart-felt tears to me that so many Two-Sprit People still suffer Hate, and Violence from even their Own Native Societies. I am 1/3 rd Cherokee, even though that is very small. I cherish my Ancestry no matter where they came from or who they are. I have NOTHING but RESPECT, and LOVE, and Honor to Native American's. Even though I have gotten stares of hate or Uncertainty from them. I will ALWAYS show them Love, and RESPECT, because they are the 1st and TRULY REAL Americans. But 100% of my RESPECT and LOVE goes to the Two-Spirit People, because I too am Gay. Love and RESPECT and Honor

Wild how the priest could lie with a straight face that colonialism didn't rob indigenous people of their culture.

How can that priest stand there and lie, about the Catholics cruel treatment of other culture, the boarding schools for exampel!

Thou shalt not lie right? Only as it applies to the speakers perspective right? Amazing how Christianity can justify the sins of missionaries so long ago.

“Just because something’s legal it doesn’t make it right.” Yeah, and just because you’re wearing a priest outfit doesn't mean you’re not a bigot.

If anything I’d argue it makes him look like more of a bigot. Colonialism and Christianity go hand in hand, that man doesn’t know about Creator. He thinks Creator judges, that Creator labels people as sinners. He does not understand history. Look at residential schools for example, it’s obvious to me that enforcing hateful beliefs in the name of religion only leads to more pain. He does not want to remedy colonial pain. He wants instead to act as if he knows the will of God. To separate our people and breed more hate within indigenous communities. Simply put, his beliefs are antithetical to creating strong and healthy communities.

Hi all, I'm James, I wish Id have had this during my own struggle. I was born Germen/Irish, adopted and embraced by a Tlingit Family. I have been dealing with Gender Dysphoria and all the sexual identity troubles it brings with it since I was 5. My journey led me to make peace between my two sides. I remember my Grandfathers reaction when I first went to him, He laughed and said "How fitting, Ravin must have a lot planed for you". He wasn't kidding. I went through the first stages of transitioning but after long and hard self reflection I opted to fallow my own path. For me the Surgery seemed more like a penance then a fix and the cost as compared to what the out come was just did not seem right. So for me the path was to make peace with my self and allow both sides to express and not just be happy within my self but to Respect both sides of who I was. For me its been a struggle and in times like these I fiend my self revisiting some of that again. However, my struggle I am lucky to say I get to continue with, the stories of others end much to soon. So if your reading this, seeing this documentary you still have plenty of options, Its what you chose to do that matters not what Others tell you. Take heart in knowing that millions of us are with you on this road, from all creeds, all races and religions, all backgrounds and all around the world. Now days you have so many recourses at your disposal to help you so pleas, don't give up, it may seem so hopeless but that feeling can be used to fuel your spirit. Chose to be, chose to touch others lives and continue to be the teacher, the clown, the light of others lives that we all are. Look at the hurt and pain left in the wake of one who leaves to soon. So many hurt and countless others who will not get to know that person, will not get the wisdom you are to bring them, will not be enriched by the friendship or rejoice in the love shared. To chose a path is relatively easy, taking the first steps is tuff but seeing the millions of foot prints of those that have gone before you, Let that be your first drops of strength and as you carry on. My Grandfather said to me, "Learn from all, even those you would not chose to listen to for the tools you will need to make your path. Then choose your own truth and choose your own path to Personal Respect, then your will get it". :)

I doubt they see it that way. In this perspective they express both genders, so I doubt gendered pronouns are considered hurtful or insulting. They are actually positive because they support the energy of the gender they refer to. It’s not to say they wouldn’t refer to them using different pronouns as well.

I think theirs about 20 different types of genders if not long. I just don't understand god has created each of us in on of 3 category's man, women, unach (neither man or women ) naturally not buy changing your gender buy surgery. What's the big fuss about it was born in a wrong body you mean god made a mistake NO its you who's making the mistake. God please help these people.

The subject of being a person with two spirits is more about gender rather than sexual preference. It's about embodying both the masculine and feminine energies and representing both almost equally in their own unique and individual way.
