Finished Murphy door bookcase with hidden room
Переглядів 14 тис.2 роки тому
Finally finished up the Murphy Door Bookcase project. If I had this to do again, I would have built the project in my home shop, stained and finished. Then drive it in 4 pieces to Atlanta and done the installation. But I really loved being able to spend so much time with my grandchildren and Bethany and Kyle. One thing I said about using the needle nose pliers to open the door through the peep ...

    Hey Mr Carroll I did a project with putty and now the putty is showing through the stain, how could I fix that problem? Will sanding the little spots and re-staining it will work ? I would like to get a little tip from you. Thank you

    • @FaithBasedProductions
      @FaithBasedProductions Місяць тому

      yeah, those situations i'd say 2 options; either sand off the whole face to drop the material level to below the problem area so it's still level, or spot sand but you're left with a dip. Many times though the glue will sit on top of the wood, thus a scraper or scraping with a chisel (not using a hammer just scraping) is pretty easy, and get it flat. God bless

    The 'Stsr of Bethlehem' was not an astronomical or cosmological event. Joseph (Jesus' father) formed an alliance with Theudas, the Chief Therapeut. The 2 in warrior mode gave themselves titles drawn from an OT verse. Joseph was the 'Star' (of David) & Theudas was the 'Scepter. The West Manassah Magi were a priestly caste of Samaritan philosophers founded in 44BC by Menahem and later led by Simon Zelotes. The Magians were Joseph's political associates. When they 'followed the star' they were agreeing with Joseph that a new Davidic king (Jesus) had been born. Because they recognized him as king, they were accepting him as legitimate. The Magi came to hail Jesus as a new member of the David dynasty to work with them in mission.

    I wanna tell you why evolution is wrong. So let's start with the big bang... Why? Just because something has "evolved" doesn't mean it's related to every other form of evolution. That'd be like saying alright, we're gonna discuss why the bible is wrong and our first topic is the Quran.

    Sorry sir, the Bible is simply a collection of fables told by middle Eastern men who tried to explain reality as how they understood it and uses a lot of BS. Much like today's men about the size of the fish they caught or how skilled they are with their rifle, we all have this need to self-aggrandize our abilities and then blame or in defense of our actions say some imaginary friend told me so or to do it. The earth is not flat, there is no firmament, we are not the center there is no supreme being looking out for you. If there was why does he let some many atrocities happen to women and children on an hourly basis all around the world? Stop pretending in make believe and join the human race in supporting each other in our struggles, as well as our accomplishments.

    There is no such science as "creation science". It's just a bunch of misinformed child-minds that don't want to do the work. It's also apologetics, which is dead and dumb.

  • @frosted1030

    "Irreducable complexity" is a falacious logical argument. This again, not related to science.

  • @frosted1030

    "Creation science" is not remotely related to science. Other than creationists, no one in the world asserts a "young Earth". This should be a clue that it's bullshit.

    The premise for your probability calculation is completely wrong. Science doesn't say extant proteins assembled all at once by chance. Science says they evolved from simpler precursors through a long term iterative process involving selection feedback. Your calculation is GIGO.

    So, the push back you're getting with the second method (obviously not kick back, because it's so slow) - is that because perhaps the blade is too low?

  • @davehughes8488
    @davehughes8488 2 роки тому

    Hi, I'm a bit puzzled by the kick back that occurred when using that type of push block, if the "step" in the push block is in contact with both the thin rip and and and the piece it is being ripped from, then surely the kick back should not have happened?.

    • @dcarrollcom
      @dcarrollcom 2 роки тому

      That push stick is pretty chewed up from having been use a lot for pushing a lot of boards less than 3/4 inch. Plus the step is about 3/32 in so that it can push 1/8 in plywood.

    • @davehughes8488
      @davehughes8488 2 роки тому

      @@dcarrollcom So, push stick as new with a 1/4" step, safe for thin rips?

    • @dcarrollcom
      @dcarrollcom 2 роки тому

      @@davehughes8488 Not really because it is going to get chewed up rather quickly when ripping a 1/16 or even a 1/32 strip. You would be depending on it pushing a very thin piece of wood with a very thin step. It won’t be long before the kickback forces from the blade and fence proximity to find a hole to drive the strip through. 1/8 inch works with a micro jig push block. Nothing narrower than that is safe.

  • @trex283
    @trex283 2 роки тому

    Please show your jig in action first, then shoe how to build it.

  • @pdwoodwerkz9625
    @pdwoodwerkz9625 2 роки тому

    Some good information here but I will say that as an instructor in a specialty woodworking shop, I would never recommend this solution for one reason: The last inch or so is not supported against the bearing fence and so if inattention is applied, the piece can skew and either injury or kickback or both can occur. I understand the need to cut thin strips, but I still am not convinced that this is the safe, sane method. David, you did a lot of good work and have given us much to consider. You have also introduced some element of danger into the design which could bite anyone using it. Regards, Dave

    I would much prefer to use the second method with the thin strip on the waste side not against the fence. It has worked for me for years. If I feel the need to have the strip against the fence I just use a broader push stick such as a 2 x 4 and cut into it. When it gets cut up just trim it for anew face. 1 / 128” is nothing when you consider possible runout on the fence or blade.
