Van Build - Bed Lift Linear Actuator Upgrade - Using a controller to keep in sync
Переглядів 6 тис.10 місяців тому
My bed lift system finally failed, sort of. The non-optical feedback actuators I bought from Amazon two years ago finally starting crapping out, one by one, until two were done. In this video I go over how I replaced them with new heavy duty optical feedback actuators and a controller module to keep them in sync and avoid possible issues with over straining the motors. Lol ya the hot springs is for everyone to enjoy and typically people don't camp that close to the hot springs. Great video
Love it!! Where did you purchase the bearing and rails??
Thank you! I got the bearings off Amazon and I got the extruded aluminum from a local company here in Denver. I would recommend getting your aluminum from somewhere in your area as it will save you a lot of money on shipping cost. Thanks for watching.
@vanishthevan what's the actual actuator you used. Name and model number and where did you purchase it
WOW tons of info in that Video buddy ,no bull, no promo stuff, no unnecessary chit chat just good old fashioned straight to the point information on how you acheived that bed build. Hats off to for taking the time to show us how to build it . Given that this is now 2025 I`ll go looking to see if you managed to do a "Finished bed project" Video .. TY and TC
Hey! Thanks so much for the comment. To be honest, it has been a love versus hate relationship with my bed build, however, I am 98% happy with what I have now. I have released a few videos with bed lift updates and highly recommend using a linear actuator controller to be sure that your actuators raise and lower at the same time. I still have unfinished work to do with the aesthetics of the bed, but have been really enjoying it and haven’t had too many issues since they updated with a controller. Hope you find my other videos helpful and let me know if you have any questions.
I surprised that your content would have been excellent in this video, but the fact that the background music was so annoying to me and sometimes masked your voice lead me to only watch three minutes of video.
I understand. I’ve learned a lot in 3 years since I start making videos.
The good karma from helping someone in need will definitely show itself when you need it most!
I like that phrase and agree. Thank you for watching and for the pleasant comment ❤️
Awesome detail video!! I needed this for my build
Happy to hear! Hope all goes well with your build.
How do you link all four actuators together so they rise and lower in synchronicity
You need actuators with feedback and you need a control module that knows which ones to speed up or slow down.
@ got it. Thank you.
What fun. That was a fun trip. I remember seeing that northern jump from my kayak and thinking that was huge. Northern don’t typically jump like that they tend to dive. I kept laughing as I watched the video. What fun when you can catch one after another like that day. Can’t wait to go again
When are we camping together this looks like a hell of a time 18:40
Whenever you're ready! I am out in Colorado now for the winter and getting ready for the ice to cap! Come on out and let's go fishing!
@@vanishthevan I do a lot of ice fishing during the winter but for sure in the future we will have to get together and make a video together sometime
Nice crappies dude that’s awesome 13:20
Yeah man, we hit the jackpot that one night but not so much luck after.

Yep, that's right. Its the 3 I think. Not the 1" sensor but I wish.
I know what camp ground your at that’s beautiful there. That’s my favorite place to camp
Are you in the Wisconsin area? I grew up there and have a lot of family there. Try to spend time there each year but I am based in the Colorado Rockies now.
1:29 what camera is this that your using it looks like a 360 camera
Yep, that's an Insta 360 with a GoPro chest mount.

Cool boat buddy I like the set up
Thanks! More modifications coming soon. Gonna turn this into a more fun little boat.
I’m the first comment on this vid
Not if I delete it! 😆
@@vanishthevan lol
That is one fine boat. Can’t wait to go fishing and catch some trout on that.
Can’t wait for you to join us on the boat here in Colorado!
You hate bugs. No shower?
Bugs? Shower?
Welcome back!
Thanks! A much needed break will hopefully motivate me to create videos more frequently... at least for a while!
@@vanishthevan cant wait to see the fishing and vanlife vids! I haven’t had the burnout from making videos yet. But I’m new. Haha! Keep on keepin on bro!
@@ChupacabraAdventures I have some new videos coming, thanks for your support and enjoy your freedom out there!
Can you put a google doc together with the list of all the parts needed to create the bed lift, for a beginner to create its own. I think that would attract alot of people, thanks...
Depending on the type of van and set up, you have will largely depend on the materials you need. If I find time soon, maybe I will put together a list of items that could work, but like I said, it really depends on everyone’s individual set up. Hope it helped. Thank you.
This is a brilliant video the best I've seen in 5 years thank you sir
Thanks Derek! Glad it was helpful for you!
Hi, I'm curious which model/brand & size water tank you have over the wheel well?
Hey! I have the 28 gallon Promaster tank from Northwest Conversions.

Another great video. Did you fish the green river? Can’t wait to see the video of the dinosaur park.
I did not have any fishing gear with me on that trip but I won’t make that mistake next time! Thanks for watching! Dinosaur video coming soon…
I bet there is a quarter slot on the other side to let someone get a peep at ya while you're showering! hahaha, excellent music.
I figured a shower scene video would get the attention of my number one fan to leave a comment!

Thats the price for gas I'm paying in town here in Arizona. You must be off Highway 50.
Hey Annie! Yep, I was off US50. Back in Colorado now and gas is about 2.60/gallon. Thanks for the sub and for watching!
That looked like a really nice camp with the steam running through. Keep the videos coming
❤️❤️❤️
Love those spots out there in the middle of nowhere.. and the mom & pop shops along the way that look like they get about 10 customers a year. Just a different feeling out there, getting further away from high population areas.. so peaceful. Cool sprinter too. GoPackGo! 💪🧀
Heck yeah! I’m back in Denver at my brothers for a month before I head out again in my next multi month adventure and I miss those springs and that area so much already! It’s actually a Ram Promaster but thanks, I love it. And yes! Let’s Go Pack!!!

Hey! Thanks for watching!
Probably will elect to stop by here on the way back home this week.
Don’t get stuck in the sand and hope it’s not too windy for you. Hopefully you get to meet the guy who lives nearby. Super cool dude! Catch some trout!
Nice Neenah shoutout 🎉
Terrific work!!
Hey, thank you!
I remember going to Reno and Tape a few times so beautiful
It was really pretty but short. Maybe a longer trip with you sometime.
Where did you put your license plate on the back? A great vid would be a review of your front hitch/carrier set up. And your back-what choo got going on on that back hitch? Is it a swing away? And ‘what’s in the box!(es)’ 🎉😂
My license plate shows perfectly thru the two carriers and is clearly visible. May not be the case for all vans though. Those are Yakima Exo carriers with their swing out base. They have many options for double decker hauling. Bunch of dirt is in my boxes!
@@vanishthevan awesome-lol yes to the dirt inside and out! Always🎉
How do you like this so far? If you go boondocking, does it bounce around a lot off road? Obscure your view? Sure makes sense to put on front instead of the back (dragging and too much more weight on the rear!0
Hi, I have the Yakima Exo cargo on the back and this on the front. Zero issues with it whatsoever. I carry my 70lb ebike on the front with a custom built carrier I made to keep the bike low enough and out of my view. I have another video on that bike rack I built.
@@vanishthevan awesome ~ will ck out your vid on the bike rack. I have an E bike but store in the ‘garage’ and takes up too much space.
mine came with a different pen. Drops to about 8/10 of an inch. have not yet cut.
Good luck! Mine has been working flawlessly. Posting this comment from Austin Nevada, in the middle of nowhere.
Love the videos and the music is 👌Keep 'em coming and safe travels.
Glad you like them!
Super excited to see another video. Keep them coming I miss not watching them
More to come!
Thanks for making me hungry, Josh. Glad to see you living life! -Curtis
If this is the Curtis, I think it is tell Dom to make you some al Pastore tacos. Thanks for watching buddy.
That little grunt when you grab the potatoes! HA!
P.S. That story about coming across the deserted man! WOW. You handled that really well.
I need to learn to hit the save button on my dash cams so that I can use that footage later. I checked my dash cam footage, but that footage was already over written on loop.
How do you shower?
I don’t have an indoor shower, just an outdoor shower, otherwise I hit the gym.
What kind of fridge do you have?
I have the Isotherm 130 I believe.
Give us a van tour of your van!
I’d love to! Once I finish the van haha. I’ll get one together eventually.
☺️ "Promo sm"
Say what?
What are those silver squares on the inside roof? I'm new
Silver squares?
Oh, you must be asking about the Kilmat. It’s sound deadening material.
This is really the bad way of flatening the Gen 2 dish, you should just use a knife to gently cut the glue at the edge... then buy a flat bezel 3D printed for Gen 2 and your dish will be rebuildable if needed (with some minor damages at the motor casing and the casing will be 2cm and super clean.
Thanks for your input. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad way. It’s worked perfectly for me and many others. Some might say taking a bus from NYC to LA is a bad way and flying is faster and safer.
Josh - can you please show how your tv/work screen area works when completely finished? You’ve designed exactly what i had in my mind and would love to see the final product (as well as show my husband so he knows what i plan to build!). Thank you, and great build!!
Hi Alexandra! I had to watch my own video to see what ideas I had at this time, haha. They have certainly changed. I still need to do a van tour video one of these days but I still have work to do on the van before I can consider it done. I live in and travel so much in the van now and can only find time to make improvements when I’m stationed at my brothers in Colorado. With that being said, some of my latest van life videos show glimpses of what I came up with. I am in love with my work station area and how it functions. Hope to get to a van tour video soon but maybe I’ll do a workstation video just for you… thanks for your comment and good luck with your build!
