The Paras?

I like it, it glows with tradition. Especially when knowing what these regiments used to do in the past. Swift and bold.

Normally the CO visits the Wives Club and asks the wives to go to London and support their husbands. Normally, this is followed with much laughter. Funny to hear that you adapted the drill commands for the police pass out. I would love to see them at the double but at the same time I would be gutted as it is a tradition I worked hard to be apart of and still mentally dealing with stuff. Incidentally, one of my Plt Cpl is soon leaving Essex police after reaching great heights there. From my unit we quite a few that are police still. I still wished I followed.

Don't think they asked the Germans n 1944, so why bother now? Celer et Audax

😆 The bridge was specially reinforced for the occasion! I only ever remember one occasion when we were ordered to "Break Step" crossing a bridge. I can't remember where it was now but it can't have been far from Aldershot.

Not sure if you're joking about being "late for a battle". I'm pretty sure that as light infantry or skirmishers their job was to get to battle as quick as they could.

the queen was the colonel in chief of the royal green jackets which now forms part of the rifle and when i doubled of the square in front of the queen she was standing and clapping and no laughing i site

I think it was also used by the British against the Americans.

It's used mainly to get ro the front of the que for the cookhouse.

hi ya well the double started as part of three regiments the 43rd & 52nd ox and bucks light inf the 60th kings royal rifle corps and the 95th the rifle brigade which all went into forming the Royal Green Jackets and these three regiments where all skirmishers the 60th kings royal rifle corp fought against the Americans in the american war of independents and this is where they got the green jackets from and the 52nd broke the old guard at the battle of Waterloo and to get to the battle filed first and to skirmish in front of the british infantry squares the three regiment would march 20 paces then double 20 paces so that would get them there first but also the light regiments would march at 140 paces a minute and the rest of the army or heavy regiments would march at 120 paces a minute

But they're "real army".

Why embarrassing?

The only Regiments that can do the double is The Rifles and the Gurkhas. Considering there was a ban on the Regiment (The Royal Green Jackets) many years ago it is quite funny seeing them there.

you do not the rifles or royal green jackets and the the British light Infantry are old than the Bersaglieri. So what you should of worte was Who the fuck thought the Bersaglieri should become Light Infantry or rifles. It's stupid.

The Bersaglieri are a light infantry unit, and most light infantry are supposed to act and think fast, and shoot accurately.

@Raj Maj Each regiment is different, like just because they didn't want to be Paras doesn't make them cowards, they might have joined for a host of other reasons.

@Raj Maj not exactly, the rifles see combat too, they just full fill a different area of doctrine, because you could only use paratroops and special forces for so much, an army needs to have a diverse array of capabilities

@Raj Maj Claiming elite status does help recruitment, though the British Army is very well trained and really the whole branch can be considered elite, especially if you look a the Army of Bangladesh

@Raj Maj No, it is just that while the British Army may not be the best in the world, they still have enough training and funding to ensure that they are somewhat capable, even if they do not receive all the funding they need. This therefore translates into a fighting force that can at least hold its own.

@Raj Maj I never stated they were elite, just that calling yourself elite helps recruitment, and a military force being able to hold its own during a period of peace in Europe doesn't mean that it is an undisciplined group of individuals. because after all the ancestors of the rifles were in worse shape before the second world war, but still supported victory in vital operations during that war.

@@jimmyjohnson7027 Know a couple of blokes from RRF, shame your regiment got shafted and reduced to one battalion so a Jock battalion could remain, that was down-to David Cameron and the Indy Referendum. I was in 3RGJ. All the best from a geriatric Rifleman.

marched properly? another word for slow and had to be literally told what to do for each movement because you'd forget. And then on the battlefield just stood in a line with your bright red coat on and fired a musket.

@@tepidbudgie A little squadie humour. I can remember a while ago a regiment which contained a lot of scousers were going to be using our base for the weekend. We were forewarned that they were known for thievery. After they left, the warning proved true.

If you do your history, you will see, like everything else in the British armed forces, there is a reason for this, and quite frankly it is very rare to see The Rifles 'Sounding the Double' out of Buckingham Palace, so thanks for the upload.

Drill was not ideal here, it’s disappointing, as you can find other videos of this regiment doing the double flawlessly

@@steveellis9065 140 is the minimum but different battalions go much faster. In my battalion (1 RGJ) we did around 160

@@peterhouston161 yes the gurkhas were called rifleman by queen Victoria on them for their bravery and fighting skills after officers in the then rifle brigades said they're worthy of the name
