KTB shooting and Onggakji practice with Daylite Archery Majesty 50# Korean Bow
Practicing with my Daylite Archery Majesty 50# 64#@32"
I have a habit of having a jerky release that makes me miss a lot. I want to be more aware of this and stop doing it. It tends to happen when I overthink aiming or feel under pressure.
I'm trying to have a smooth expanding release where I move my hand back in a straight line. I believe this is called 온깍지 Onggakji.
"However, in Korean archery, the clasped hand (back hand) is extended at the same time as the launch. This movement has been called balyeohomi (發如虎尾) because it resembles a tiger spreading its tail since ancient times.
Therefore, onkkakji refers to the action of spreading one's hands and shooting them coolly in traditional judicial practice."
Source namu.wiki/w/%EC%98%A8%EA%B9%8D%EC%A7%80
In this video, I was able to see that my jerky release tends to miss and a more fluid expansion, Ongakji is more accurate.

World Mental Health Day 2024: Beware "should" thoughts

"Shoulds" will rob you of your achievements, your joy and your life and make you compare yourself to others unfavorably. Be yourself! Not who other people think you "should" be.
Thumb Rings - Exploring differences between a brass ring, Korean Amgakji and Korean Sutgakji

Do you have a preference or a favorite thumb protector?
@@matthewvassar9686 Not a favourite as such. I have been using the Daylite amgakji more recently but swap to the brass ones every now and then. I am determined to use the sutgakji more now, with a wrist strap, as it seemed to work quite well. I just need more time with it.
So chill! Very nice. Almost hypnotic with the music! Love it

@@MrRourk This was an outtake. I was using the back camera for slow motion, and could not see whether I was in frame, or even if I had started to record. In the end, i got the orientation wrong. But luckily it was good enough for a short in portrait mode.
Which one is your Top? 😊
@@miguelveratraditionalarche9374 Hola. Hard to say. I've been using the brass ones for over a year, I got the Daylite amgakji in May and been using that except with the Cheonjigung. I've only used the sutgakji a few times from fear of injury. However, following this test, i was impressed by the sutgakji and think I need to practice more with it. I'll attach a wrist strap again, better this time. You can see it in the slow motion but it came off at some point. I think I also need to invest in a Vermil at some point. Not sure what to go for. They have many different types. Also curious about that gao ying ring too.

Sweet little video. Love the mellow jazz.
@@briandavis6843 Thanks. I'm experimenting with royalty free music.
Been watching for a few weeks, so I decided to subscribe. I have a sugakji from Custom Thumb Rings, and find it feels wonderfully secure, especially for KTBs over 40lb. @ 28 inches. My current go-to rings are the Chinese Spur model from Custom Thumb Rings. I also have a Southeast Asian (?) style ring from Vermil. Do the colors of your arrows represent differences in spine, point weight, total arrow weight etc.?
@@briandavis6843 Thanks. I've yet to explore Vermil / Custom Thumb Rings. So much choice, but prices can be hard. I don't want to get one that doesn't feel right. I shoot NFAS field archery and we have to have "numbered" arrows to use for different pegs. I just went with RW&B as these are the peg colours and also adds a bit more colour to arrows when I miss and get lost in the woods.
Korean Female ring is an interesting ring design I haven't seen much of. I do think where you can using the rings that are traditional for a particular bow/archery style makes sense since they evolved together as a system. Makes sense they are likely to group slightly differently, I haven't tried the different rings same bow.
@@mrln247 The Daylite amgakji looks a bit different to other Korean female rings I've seen. But there is a lot of variety and designs. I agree that the rings evolved with the style.
I got on, hoping I would find a new one from you and... Yaaay! Very informative. I only have 1 metal ring (I think it's the same you have that requires the sting/strap and is too big) and a leather protector. Having a comparison like this definitely helps in the decision-making process of purchasing a new ring. So, thanks so much for that! I'm glad I'm not the only one with the callous from string twist 😅. Thought about getting or making a protector for index finger. I made one without a strap, but it takes readjusting to not fall off or gets kinda stuck if my hand sweats (almost always does). I also just enjoy feeling as much as possible. I would shoot without a ring if I wasn't getting nerve damage. Name of the game, I guess. Thanks for the video, sir! It's always nice seeing you enjoy shooting in your archery garden. God bless, brother!
@@matthewvassar9686 I got given the hand protector by Ace Archery as a freebie when I bought the Cheonjigung. I wasn't sure what it was at first, but figured it out. It's too small for my index finger, so i don't use it. I must find a way of stretching the leather a bit to make it fit. Saying that, the string contact, burns and dries the skin a little but it's not painful.
Enjoy the rings! Which one is your favorite so far? Will shallow rings be next? 👊😁 Best wishes!
@@agamagreen I have to say the brass ones have not let me down so far. The amgakji seemed not to like the 78# Cheonjigung. I'm a bit shy of the sutgakji, especially if I am shooting a lot, as my thumb is likely to shrink and risk it slipping off. Yes I'd like to try a shallow hook at some point. Not come across one so far. Also curious about Manchu rings.
Super shot!
@@iontorcica7911 Thank you 🙏👍🏹
Heck yeah bro! "I am one with the universe "... Have you done anything to the grip yet? I feel like I finally have a better understanding of mine, and it's finally being more consistent for me. Studying your shot cycle and a few others helped! However I am now dealing with a nasty blister on my bow hand caused by my newer arrow pass. It is stingray, not filed flat. It looks good but hurts due to the way I grip and torque. So I'm debating only covering one side with the ray as I have seen many do with ktb. Thanks for the video! I hope you are feeling better and enjoying your week! This weather change definitely messes with my bones and joints.
@@matthewvassar9686 No. Not found a suitable grip tape. I bought one from AliExpress but it's a bit rubbish. I want to get a nice leather one in black. Arrow pass. I only shout on rhs so only have a small bit. As nice as an "all the way round" bit of rayskin looks on a bow, it's a bit of a waste as most is not used. Cut up a little bit and the same piece might be good for 4 or 5 passes. Thanks for the support 👍

@@gogamgogam5485 No. I don't have the HMG / Monarch. I do have a Majesty/ 3K 카본궁.
How is this compared to YMG?
@@gogamgogam5485 I don't know as I don't have a YMG to compare to. Rumour has it that YMG was started by an ex employee of Jeil and the unstrung / strung shape of both bows is very similar. I don't expect that there is much difference between them, but as I discovered there are small differences that affect personal biomechanics. I'm hoping that someone with experience of them both might comment at some point.

Which KTB brand that you like?
I like them all. Although I prefer the Korean domestic versions with a proper Korean grip. Some of the ones made for export, with the western styling, no wraps or English names for example are not to my taste. For example my Daylite Majesty is a great bow, won the Shoot-off, but is based on the Haneul / Sky bow sports 3K Carbon bow which is not as easy to get outside of Korea. skyarchery.cafe24.com/product/3k-%EC%B9%B4%EB%B3%B8%EA%B6%81%EA%B3%B5%EC%9D%B8%EA%B6%81/19/category/1/display/2/
I just had a field point stuck in MDF last weekend. I twisted off the shaft and then pull it out with pliers, which worked, but it did a number on the threads… Your tool would have been much better.
@@SamPeabody It doesn't save all field points. Nice and easy does it. The steel is too soft and can deform and shear easily.

general consensus in korea about majesty is that it's not rly worth the price performancewise + questionable durability on lower limb. seems like if you put more pressure to the lower limb, it's prone to breaking.
@bildogaggins8196 I have seen the concerns about the early Majesty's. This is a 2nd generation model, which according to Daylite Archery, has been reinforced. It's also "less" than 60# and most of the reported problems appear to have been on the 60+# bows. In terms of performance, the difference is marginal. In terms of price, this was quite cheap for me at the time. In terms of my shooting ability, I have a lot to improve. Might do this test again in the future when I get better. *You'd need a much better archer than me to determine whether there is a material advantage in the construction that warrants the price difference.
@@KTBIOM i see! thanks for the review! gotta see if there's anyone with 2nd gen majesty at my range as well
@@bildogaggins8196 The easiest way to see, is that the 3K Cross carbon doesn't show all the way on the belly. On mine, it's only showing about half way closer to the goja. The early models displayed the 3k cross carbon all along the belly.

This is the one I was looking forward to. Nice comparison! Since I already have a Monarq, I think my next KTB may be an SMG or YMG.
At the beginning of the video I said to myself, 😅 I think he'll like the SMG better, but when shooting he'll have better results with the Mejesty. It's a great Korean bow. Thanks for sharing this comparison. Cheers ☕️ 😊
@@miguelveratraditionalarche9374 You're right. 💯. Probably my fault being inconsistent but one bow had to win and this is the way it went. Like I said, the Majesty is a no nonsense work horse that gets the job done. I suspect the Monarch/ HMG is the same.
Been waiting for this...! *I was rooting for the mighty Majesty. ** Grip tape would solve the issue with the Majesty. Again thanks for these videos
@@K3NJ1K1 Perhaps. I do like the all black colour/ stealth vibe. It would be a shame to break that with a yellow rubber grip. Some black leather sports tape might do the trick.
@@KTBIOM that's right. Black grip tape will be fine.
Black grip tape works. It won't change the look at all. I even used baseball bat grip or tennis over grip. Some have foam and adhesive tape on the back.

Yeah. Weather has been variable with rain and wind. Just need some clear time and daylight. Hoping to have a go tomorrow afternoon at Majesty Vs SMG, if not too tired after the weekly session.
