    Nice presentation, but I suggest after you commented on doing reviews that you consider contacting Garmin and ask to review their RINO radio that is GMRS. It is the best GMRS ht made with many more capabilities than you mentioned when discussing the “advanced” GMRS radios. They are substantially more expensive, but you get what you pay for. If you have that 100’ clear around your antenna, let’s see … maybe dig a pond and fill it with *REALLY SALTY* water …😀 If you don't want anything growing in that _"No Man's Land",_ maybe make the soil a little more conductive with *copper sulfate.* Of, if you *DO* want things to grow, there's probably some fertilizer that is highly conductive. *73 de AF6AS in **_“DM13”_** land*

    Great presentations but it would be better if when people are showing their tape measure antenna's etc that you let us see what they are showing, you could obviously see it and he was showing it for a reason, all we saw was your blank stare. Really would have been neet to see what others were showing. 73

    Great presentation. Thank you, Jim and RATPAC. I have found that I only want to look at "Repeater Capable" GMRS radios; some, especially "bubble pack", are not repeater capable. A question for Jim, if he is monitoring, is there a "height above ground limit" for external antennas?

  • @BusDriverRFI
    @BusDriverRFI 23 дні тому

    Absolutely no one ever says anything about the dimensions of the topic of balanced or unbalanced components. Besides the fact that we see the circuit schematic of the transmitter described as a 0 ohm impedance source in series with a source impedance, then that is loaded into an antenna and then there's a return line back to the transmitter. So after doing a mesh analysis on the transmitter impedance, the rest is pretty simple. The antenna is a load that is actually a resistance in series with an inductance in series with a capacitance. When the XL and the Xc are equivalent, they cancel leaving only the resistance. So what do we balance? The Kirchoff current law states that current flowing into a point (node) is equal to the current flowing out of that point. Now instantaneously we can look at that circuit and know that the current flow is not equal everywhere all at once, but on average, the current around the circuit loop will be equal. If we have 2amps flowing into the load, we have 2amps flowing out of the load. Kirchoffs current law. Again, we see you doing math showing impedance transformations and a lecture about common mode current but there's never any values associated with the topic. I think it's pretty obvious why.

    I know you spoke of keeping messages short, but when that not possible, an operator should pause periodically to let the repeater reset. To keep others from interrupting with other traffic, the operator passing the message should say "break, more to follow." Then when the operator resumes passing the message they should use the word "continuing."

    Hello everyone. Nice detail hardware information by Andew VA7YAA does not have an email in QRZ. I already have WoAD on my Google Pixel 7 as an application. I did try to send an email to myself and got an email form Wave Talkers when I join there ZOOM Meeting acknowledgement of my participation in the ZOOM Meeting but did not receive an email on my WinLink Account. What wanted to learn is how to use the Application on my phone. Some of the information on this I cannot open in my application in my phone like changing the Protocol. I do have Transceivers that run on WSJT-x and WinLink using a paid VARA HF, FM, P2P, & AC. So, all work well. My interest is just using WoAD as a Telenet Protocol. The arrogant politics and polices of the League always prevented me from joining. They believe they speak for the entire amateur community when only a small percentage of hams are members. The few who are members have little to no say in what the directors do behind closed doors. Running the ARRL like a dictatorship is going to be the death of the organization.

As the message and the content is extremely important and should be preserved, perhaps refined for the reader to digest. the message you are attempting to deliver needs to be preserved and restated for future repetition. IMO, POTA contains more of the true ORIGINAL spirit of field day than the FD we have today. POTA usually puts the operator out in the public eye and not in some secluded wooded area with air conditioned trailers far away from everyone. POTA also uses a minimum of equipment and therefore deploys extremely quickly which is an invaluable skill for emergency ops, vs an entire day of orchestrated setup like many clubs do on FD. I am very glad that we have POTA and can do it 365 days out of the year, not just one. 73

    Great presentation, but I'm confused.. how can a private repeater group consider that frequency private and run you off from it? No one owns the frequency. They could switch their repeater off if they don't want you using it, but can't forbid you from using that frequency.

    • @mikemcdonald5147
      @mikemcdonald5147 2 місяці тому

      Yeah there's always the complaint that no one owns those frequencies so how can they do that. My only guess is they bought the equipment the repeater, duplexer, coax, antenna, possible tower, and are paying for the electricity used. So they get to control how much electricity you are using LOL :) Is it right>? not really but I kinda get it. It's a big cost to run a repeater and upkeep it so its only right to charge a small fee for the upkeep and power.

    • @LarryAllenTonar
      @LarryAllenTonar Місяць тому

      You can use the frequency for simplex, but leave out the repeater keying tone or number, and don't maliciously interfere with other's transmissions.
