How to Propagate White Knight in Leca with Update
In this video, I got a White Knight Philodendron cutting and I decided to propagate it in leca. I much prefer leca because I hate detangling roots from sphagnum moss. It grew really quickly and even gave me a half moon red/green leaf!
Because this video is delayed, I actually took a bottom cut at some point in between the original video and the update. I'll be posting that video in the future as well.
Please feel free to leave your thoughts, questions and/or comments! Thank you!

Repotting My Rootbound Kalanchoe
Переглядів 11 тис.3 роки тому
Hi guys, I noticed that my Kalanchoe isn't growing as vigorously as I expected so I checked the roots. I expected to video it at a later day but due how rootbound it was, I decided to repot immediately. I didn't have my camera set up initially so I apologize for the recording being a couple minutes into the process but I felt it would be a helpful process to document. This video is the perfect ...
Transferring My Pink Princess Philodendron from Moss to Soil
Переглядів 4 тис.3 роки тому
In my previous video, we propagated this PPP in moss. Since its rooted well in the moss, I decided that I was going to transfer it to soil. It's always a bit nerve-racking when I make the transfer because roots can really grab on to the moss leading to breakage and every transfer is a bit different! However, this PPP has really taken well to the aroid mix (because yes, I am behind on editing, s...
Update on the Kalanchoe After Hard Pruning
Переглядів 19 тис.3 роки тому
As requested, here is a quick update on the Kalanchoe after I pruned off all the leaves a couple months ago. The growth has done wonderfully, despite the fact that its winter for us here. As you can see, the leaves grew beautifully and the cutting even grew a beautiful flower!
Propagating My New Pink Princess Philodendron and White Wizard Node in Sphagnum Moss
Переглядів 1,6 тис.3 роки тому
A local seller had a lightly rooted PPP that I fell in love with when I saw it in person. While I was at it, I decided to start my "royal circle" and grabbed a newly cut White Wizard node. I've always done well with aroids in moss (unless you count the experience of tediously picking off the strands before potting in mix) so that's what we'll be doing today! Join me while I attempt to root the ...
Transplanting My Syngonium Albo from Sphagnum Moss to Aroid Mix
Переглядів 2,7 тис.3 роки тому
I have great success with propagating in sphagnum moss but every time I have to transfer any babies to their permanent mix, I question whether or not I should change my methods. In my experience, I have to tediously peel off/remove at least 98% of the moss in order to make sure there's no or minimal risk of rot. I also make sure my aroid mix is super airy so any residual moss wouldn't be able t...
Making My Own "Kosho" Yuzu Garlic Chili Sauce with Homegrown Yuzu
Переглядів 2133 роки тому
Hi guys, This is the first year that my Yuzu has blessed me with a good crop of Yuzu so I decided to make my own version of Kosho with whatever I had available. I used homegrown Yuzu and lemongrass, as well as some store bought garlic and peppers. It turned out DELICIOUS! It was super flavorful and I used it as a marinade as well as a dip for steak, chicken, and salmon (all on separate occasion...
Kalanchoe Propagation Experiment (Spagnum Moss vs. Peat/Perlite vs. Water)
Переглядів 46 тис.3 роки тому
In my last video, I hard-pruned my kalanchoe and ended up with a bunch of cuttings I wanted to root. I decided to take this opportunity to see which method was the best for rooting this plant. I used the methods I most commonly use which are straight spagnum moss with humidity bag, 50/50 peat/perlite, and straight ZeroWater filtered water. All cuttings were then placed in bright indirect light ...
Reshaping My Leggy Kalanchoe (Hard Pruning) to Encourage a Bushier Look with 2-Week Update
Переглядів 133 тис.3 роки тому
Hi guys, my kalanchoe has grown really leggy with long leafless stems in the middle. I really prefer the fuller, bushier appearance for this plant so I decided to do a hard prune to encourage back-budding. The bonus is that I can now propagate the stems to gift! I ended up doing a separate video on the propagation and turned it into a little experiment to see if sphagnum moss, peat/perlite, or ...
Rescuing a Coconut Orchid (maxillaria tenuifolia)
Переглядів 8353 роки тому
Hi guys! Yesterday, I acquired a cutting of a coconut orchid that was ripped off the mother plant. Many roots were damaged and the pseudobulbs were starting to shrivel. There was one lone piece that was loose and hanging off so I decided to place it in an ICU kind of set-up. This orchid is known for its coconut scent and I'm a sucker for all plants with nice fragrances so I'm really excited to ...
Tour of My Rescue Meyers, Yuzu Lemon, Meiwa Kumquats, Key Lime and Makrut (Kaffir) Lime

Hi guys, I wanted to do a quick tour through my citrus collection. I moved a couple years ago and gave away a lot of my collection, but rescued a bunch of lemon and lime trees from Home Depot. I wasn't able to give as much attention to them as I'd like this year, but they're doing much better than before. There was one that was literally a stick that has probably grew 5x the size in 1 year! Thi...
How To: DIY Clear Orchid Pots

This video has given me such a huge relief. I was worried mine was going to die, even though there are loads of flowers right now, but it’s very leggy. I took it on for my mum about 4 years ago, along with her orchids, because she got too disabled to look after them. It was going really well as it was almost dead before and I managed to revive it and it grew amazingly well but now it’s quite sparse around the tall stem. Plenty of green leaves on the top though, so it’s maybe healthier than I thought. I think it has the wrong soil though, so I’m going to repot it. My mum passed away 3 years ago and I want to make sure it thrives for many years as a living reminder of her.

Water works awesome if you are constantly checking, however, i find that if you have too many plants, 😂 i just stick in cococoir or cocopeat, dont water at all (just randomly mist or after a week do one good rain water) and forget about them for a while.. they do great! *keyword forget* 😂

Hi! Great video! I’m excited to prune my Kalanchoe for the first time, but I’m having trouble too. It is leggy, but the leaves are also small and soft/supple. Not waxy like when I received it. The leaves are also starting to turn yellow. I think it’s getting too much sun, so I’ll move it, but the soft leaves began before the summer, any ideas as to what’s wrong? Lack of water? (It’s definitely not too much water)

Perfect! Totally what i needed. My kalenchoe is so tall! I saw some trimming/propagation videos that said to cut below leaves - though one of them pointed out those roots but didn't elaborate on them. I was wondering if i just tried cutting below those & planting it if it would work better...i really want to do as little damage as possible. I want to be a good mom 😢 Thank you for making this video!

Mine is soooo leggy. Like 6-8” of nothing leggy. So far anything I’ve broken off accidentally has rooted very quickly in soil without rooting powder even. I’m going to do this and see how it goes! I’m thinking of taking out the middle sections and planting them separate too… there’s enough little hairs everywhere I think it’ll work. Thanks for being brave and showing it’s okay to cut it down to nothing! I’m always nervous to hard prune.

I followed your video to cut back mine, and propagated the bits and pieces. Should they flower on their own or do you have to do anything? Also, it's been a few weeks and the props already started blooming new leaves, but the mama plant is taking a bit longer. Is this normal?

I also did a check in today on the plant, and I'm seeing some of the propagates didn't take and started rotting, but the same black rot is at the tips of the plant where I cut it. I sanitized my scissors when I did it, so I don't know what's causing this.

I have an incredibly leggy kalanchoe. I have never pruned it before other than a stem at the beginning that was browning. So all the 3 stems are on one side of the plant and they stretch up. I don’t see nodes… but there is a leaf at every bump (I assume those are nodes..). I do see tiny white roots towards the bottom. Would I just randomly choose one to prune off?

    • @plantingparadise1546
      @plantingparadise1546 Рік тому

Yes! The nodes are the bumps where the leaves come out. You can certainly pick an area to prune. I recommend going halfway between 2 nodes on the stem. If you stick the top half in water, it will propagate again but I like to give it 20 minutes to dry before I put it in water. When I cut, I like to cut a little further down than I want to see the new growth because it will push out the stem before it grows new leaves. Good luck!
