Just to let you know that your video was selected by ChatGPT related to my question on how to sand nitro lacquer from the guitar. Cheers
Cool 🤖! Thank you for letting me know.
Marvelous work! I’m curious to know what type of rasp you used to remove the wood and fret material at the same time?
Thanks! It’s a Bastard file (coarse file) for the fretboard edge around the frets and a Shinto rasp for where there aren’t frets.
Bro that’s wicked ngl I’d just buy a new one love the work and dedication
Ha yes, it took some time! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Genius man. I'll have to do mine this way because I don't have a mill. Do you recall the exact size of the index bit and counter bit for the back?
Ah, 1/8" for guide holes. Or whatever the exact size of the bridge plate is. Then 8mm for ferrules (1mm deeper than ferrules)
Thanks! Yep, that’s it 😃. To match the hardware you’re using, the ferrules on the back can vary in size quite a lot depending on the type, but usually the bridge plate holes are around 1/8”. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
What blade did you use? The Stew mac blades are ridiculous.
It’s from Rall guitar tools.
Beautiful. I have 2 32” scale bases and it’s definitely my preferred scale length.
Thank you! Yep, my favourite scale length too!
What’s the starting cost of these? Without the super upgrades. ✌️
@@MrDaleAsmiththe starting price is £1995. Thanks for the interest!
Nice work!
Thank you 🙏🏼
very nice. genuine bone nut.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Would be awesome to have a 7 string guitar, 6 string B1 E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4 bass B0 E1 A1 D2 G2 B2 and this "sub bass" B-1 E0 A0 G1 D1 B1
Yeah that’d be cool!
Hi Manton customs: Did you use a router or what kind of saw did you use? Please tell me how you get the neck breakaway angle inside the pocket.Great job!❤
Thanks! A router was used to cut a tenon which is oversized compared to the mortise. Then the chisels and scraping did the rest.
So you build custom guitars for people? Got a website or anything?
Yep mantoncustoms.co.uk
Dude this guitar is awesome! Great tone too!
Thank you 🙏🏼 😃
@mantoncustoms I'm actually thinking I'd like one relatively soon. Been really thinking about all the details. Where can I look at your guitars and ask questions about them?
@@greendragon2471 lots of guitars to look at on website! My email address is on there too, you can get in touch via that with any questions you may have and I’d be happy to help. mantoncustoms.co.uk
That looks sooo good.

Yeah a few hours…enjoyable though!

It makes sound
@@mantoncustoms No sound was in the video.
beautiful result
Thank you!
I'd have liked to see how you connected them to the d shaft. I'm trying to make something with wooden dials too and and am concerned about slippage, wondered if there were some kind of plastic insert to stop that. That aside, you have a very relaxing presence and i enjoyed the calmness of the video and the beautiful workmanship. ❤
Thank you. Yes, some knobs like this use an insert of brass or plastic. But I haven’t found it necessary. The shaft is a tight fit and the little set screw has proved enough to stop any slipping.
Do not put your Guitar in direct sunlight after you’ve applied the decals. I learned this the hard way.
That is one cool looking bass!
Thank you!
Why doesnt anyone show how to accuratlly measure out the ashtray bridge BEFORE you drill the holes???
I will do a video on that at some point 👍🏻
Had to play this at 0.75 speed, Easy on coffee man 😂 Great vid otherwise
others just placed paper towels soaked with acetone on the guitar and let it soak a few minutes and then the finish just wiped right off......
I love how this guitar turned out. You did an amazing job and I appreciate you taking us step-by-step through the process. I hope to do this one day to my DC junior 🎉
Thank you very much! Glad you like it. 😃
thanks for the process vid.
Thanks for watching!
Cool. Thank you.
Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you so much ! I am coating a Strat body in totalboat lust varnish now.I was having a tough time getting a final coat to lay totally flat with out any small runs or streaks. Now I realize what I need to do in a week of drying time.I was freaking out.Again thank you :>)
Glad to help! Thank you for watching and good luck with the Strat!
That tone - oooooft
Very nice, so much better than plastic
Thank you! Definitely 👍🏻
Neat job , excellent explanation and demonstration of the finished instrument.
Thank you very much 😃
Very nice. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks!
Very nice work!
Thank you!
I really wanna do this but idk how
Check out my channel 😃 there’s some videos on there which show you how.
You must have some patience Rob. Levelling the frets isn't too difficult, but the _crowning_ must have taken ages! Thankfully most of us are happy to play guitars that are mostly, rather then perfectly, in tune.
Thanks Howard, hope you’re well! Yeah the crowning takes a while 🥱 though it was much quicker on this one having done a few TT fretboards before…the first one took ages!
That looks like a tedious task! Nicely done!
Thank you!
Great job
Thank you!
I know this video is a couple years old but, if you see this-do you know a good method for re-loosening a water slide decal thats been set and dried on a maple headstock that has your typical maple clear finish? Nothing has been sprayed over this particular decal. I've tried letting it sit with a wet, warm and mildly soapy paper towl for longer than 20 minutes and the decal will not move. I realize I'd have to somehow get moisture under the decal but, I'm unsure if that is even feasible without destroying the decal. Thank you!
Unfortunately I think you may be out of luck, when I make a mistake like this I usually just sand or strip it off. You could try naphtha to remove it instead…on the decals I use this will dissolve the whole decal and the glue holding it.
@@mantoncustoms For your potential future reference. After soaking with warm water and a small amount of dawn dish soap, (don't know if the soap actually helped but, was part of the process I happened to use) the decal would not slide, however, I noticed I could get the edges to pull up. I was able to gently pull the edge from one end up, pulling roughly 3/4 of the decal up so as not to have it roll and stick to itself, then dab water underneath the decal with my fingertip, lay it back down, pull opposite end up, dab water under that end, then decal would slide with no issue. For anyone who may try this method - keep in mind my headstock is finished maple, so the decal slid easily. Also, once you're able to move decal, try to get it where you want as efficiently and quickly as you're able as I noticed after messing about with the decal too much, the black ink - didn't smear but, kinda broke a tiny section off the print on one of the letters in the script. Good luck!
How in the world would you crown frets like that? Really do enjoy your informative no nonsense approach, very refreshing for a change!
I did a video on that part a few years ua-cam.com/video/o6DZKcSg3WY/v-deo.html ago, it’ll also be on part 3 :)
How would I do the same knob without a separate top? Is it possible with the same tools?
Yes, I’ve done that before too.… start drilling using the hole saw, then when you’re part way through, you remove the pilot drill bit from the hole saw and drill the remainder without the drill bit attached.
@@mantoncustoms that was my guess but im not familiar with hole saws--thank you for the tip! I made some knobs a different way and drilling that middle hole separately and getting it perfect is not the business
Can I do this to an alder body?...that I screwed up by staining
Yep, 👍🏻 just take care if it’s a multi piece body as mentioned in the video
K I did this 😂 And the join in the body opened up a bit just like you said it would...how do I go about fixing that? You mentioned filling?
@@Univarrepoxy is best, but it’s messy stuff so make sure you don’t get it everywhere! You could mask off the rest of the body. If it’s smaller gap, super glue might work also
Thanks for demonstrating that! Very helpful
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching
What strings do you use?
A custom set from Newtone (UK based string manufacturer)
Very nice work, I’m considering doing the same thing here. You’ve convinced me!
Thank you! Glad to help
There are many ways to drill these holes. The method shown here seems to work ok but I prefer to drill to depth using the index pin instead of just marking the hole location then drilling without the index. I think my way is more accurate. I would also run the brad point drill much faster than shown here as it is more accurate and produces no tear out of fibres. I also think that drilling on a mill using a digital readout, X-Y coordinates etc., is a bit of overkill and not needed, but each to his own method. Thanks for providing the video. Cheers...
Thanks for watching. Yep, lots of different methods. Keeping the index pin in place also works great too. Just was easier to film this way. If I used a mill and digital read out there would be little point posting a video about it…as these videos are supposed to help people and few people will have that equipment… it’s also not needed for drilling 6 holes which can be drilled perfectly accurately like this.
@@mantoncustoms Totally agree. Keep up the good work!! Cheers...
Learned something new, cool trivia about the old yellow sunbursts
Thanks for watching!
I drilled mine on a mill using a digital readout, X-Y coordinates. Dead nuts. I had previously tried the template route. Nowhere near as accurate.
???..you had a drill press the has a digital readout???..please explain more
@@Jeremya74 As I stated, a mill. Milling machine.
@@G1951-w1y nevermind..sorry I asked
Great build! I am working in a pine 54 P bass right now. Your build looks awesome! Greetings from Mexico.
Thank you very much. I like the early p basses…good choice! Hope it turns out great!
Wow, it looks actually feasible! I was thinking of doing this to my Washburn 6 string. Thanks!
Glad to help, good luck!
