Morning coffee with Pål - The four main platform strategies within Banking
There are four predominant platform business models emerging within the banking industry...
Over the last couple of months I have had the pleasure to work with the IBM Academy of Technology and the IBM Industry Academy to do some research and analysis into the growing platformification of the banking industry and the main business models or roles that are emerging, along with a perspective on associated maturity models.
We have concluded round the following four:
🏦 Bank as a Producer: The bank is a product factory (producer of APIs) that provides financial products to other members of the ecosystem who own the relationship with the customer and build the experiences to more broadly distribute these products than the bank could achieve alone. The bank provides the banking license and the ability to hold funds. The growth of Open Banking and the underlying PSD2 regulation is an example of the Bank as Producer model. "Bank is white-labelling and selling its products via someone else platform". Although this approach drives growth for the bank (more accounts, more transactions), the risk of commodization is significant since the bank doesn't own the client relationship and is essentially providing a utility.
🏦 Bank as a Distributor: sourced from the ecosystem. Differentiator is an omnichannel relationship with the customer. The bank is agnostic about where the products come from. This approach contains 'powered by', partnerships, and white-labelling. This enables banks to deepen client relationships by selling products and services and meeting a broader set of client needs than with just banking products.
🏦 Bank as a Marketplace: The bank leverages deep relationships to connect customers and other stakeholders (such as businesses and developers) in a platform-based ecosystem. This enables the bank to be a marketplace for products and services such as tailored offerings aligned with the lifestyles of retail customers.
🏦 Bank as an Ecosystem Participant: The bank is an active participant in a multi-platform ecosystem (panoramic banking), which is societally aligned such as defined within the scope of Society 5.0. The bank will take on multiple roles depending on the scope of the interactions with a client centric focus, such as advisory capabilities and the data-enabled client. Relevant driving forces are seen as DeFi and the Sustainable Development Goals. Bank as Ecosystem Member is an emerging pattern.

Morning coffee with Pål - What makes a good mentor?
Переглядів 233 роки тому
Last week I posted a video discussing my period of reflection whilst on vacation, and how important my mentors have been for my career progression and helping me to get to where I am today. I have had several people reach out to me on the back of that video asking what makes a good mentor and how do they find a mentor - even had several ask me if I could be their mentor, which is humbling - tha...

Morning coffee with Pål - Financial Literacy, are we close to a longterm systemic failure?
Переглядів 143 роки тому
Are we going to see a systemic societal financial failure? Probably not, but I am growing increasingly concerned about the decline of financial literacy at a global scale, and the limited or no form of action taken by both public and private sector to rectify the situation. I am not sure if this is something I am getting increasingly passionate about due to me having children or the nature of m...
Morning coffee with Pål - What does Apple and Uber have in common? Banking as a Service (BaaS)
Переглядів 283 роки тому
What does Apple and Uber have in common? I have been asked on several occasions to explain the business model of Banking as a Service (BaaS), and what it actually is. Whilst the term was originally started by Chris Skinner, it has today been adopted as a common term for the business model where a licensed financial institution (such as a bank) enables a non-banking entity to embed the banks ser...

The one that has the original chassis is in my opinion
This is incredible. I recently aquired a 986 of my own and this is near exactly the build list I came up with once after doing a bit of research. Please please PLEASE film more of this vehicle!
This is beautiful. I want to build something like this had the vision in my head. Like a old JGTC car from japan. Do you have a instagram or a build thread on this car?
Well done car! What kind of car battery do you have?
Any follow ups on this video? I would like to see where you mounted the nozzles for the engine.
Utmost cool build. Too bad video aspect ratio was sold out to social media.
I am just starting a career with IBM in Austin TX and the first thing I thought about was... I NEED A PORSCHE!! Hope I can grow within the company and hope IBM sponsorships work it's way back into motorsports. I am also starting in the IT Systems Support world but hope I can jump into FinTech later! Cheers.
Do you have any videos of ot running? Great looking porsche
where did you get your rear bumper
It is custom built.
What happened to the consistent uploading?
Thank you for your advice. Really appreciate it.
You’re welcome.
Great video I’m working on a 911 Race car that has been racing without the fire extinguisher system and this video totally make my day tomorrow more effective. Thank you very much

Love the analogy of shopping mall to demystify the concepts...I agree we use platforms and ecosystems interchangeably in the tech industry. Where would place Playstore or Apple store at, A platform or an ecosystem as it provides developer tools /SDKs etc. Looking forward to hear from you.
