Hi my name is Ian and I have created this channel Back on Two Wheels to try and chronicle my journey moving forward after over 3 decades in the wilderness.
I sold my RD350LC back in 1983 to raise the money to go back packing in Europe / North Africa (I know, I could kick myself everyday for not having the foresight to just go on the bike). Fast forward to 2020 and I have finally taken the tentative steps back on two wheels.
With 2020 involving complications around Covid 19 and Brexit, while working in mainland Europe, my direction for Back on Two Wheels is to share little run-outs, places I visit and events I am able to attend as well as any training I find the time to do.
I will apologise up front for the quality of the videos, however as I progress my riding and editing skills will hopefully both improve.

why have crash protection?
So in June I purchased the Himalayan 450 and took it straight to the ABR festival at Ragley Hall.
This is my 4th year at the festival and the first year I rode the Bridgestone trail as my first off reading experience, needless to say I dropped the bike.
With the nature of riding off-road, there are times that you will drop the bike (as a novice at 61, I was probably more likely), this I accept and now I have the scars to prove it haha
However I got to thinking that, whilst I accept that my crash protection will take the brunt of the collision, I am a bit peeved that the tank was damaged (dented) by the very piece of kit that is designed to protect it????

I am guessing that 61 is not the ideal age to start riding off road, however at this age it has to be sooner rather than later! 2021 & 2022 ABR I took my Triumph tiger 900 RallyPro, There was no way I was going to risk taking a £14K bike that was too tall and heavy for my skill level - 0% 2023 ABR I was on my Triumph Speedmaster Chrome - bike not equipped and rider still at 0% skill 2024 ABR I ...

So this is my 4th year at the ABR festival and as usual I was not disappointed. I had my concerns before the event because VIP camping had been moved from the grounds in front of Ragley Hall, being replaced by more providers and speaking tents, we were placed what I consider to be as far from the main area as possible. So on Wednesday evening 26th June, my new set of wheels were delivered, just in time to take to the ABR festival at Ragley Hall. The Plan is to get some experience going green laneing etc, possibly take on some of the TET, who knows! The world, as Delboy would say, is my Lobster

So this part 2 takes in the ride itself, I would love to put the whole ride in but that would be nearly 2 hours worth. Also my GoPro decided to stop recording twice, I think it may have been overheating, so I might have to get another camera, possibly an insta360 X4.

I have split this day into two, the journey and starting point in this first part and the actual ride will be in part two. The downside of editing on a 64GB IPad! This year I joined West Sussex and the ride was great.

So I rode to my nearest Royal Enfield dealer and test rode the Himalayan 450 (452) Was it what I was expecting Should I get one?

I checked with the nearest Royal Enfield dealer to me and they now have a Himalayan 450 Demo bike in, so I popped down to see if A) the lean when going onto the side stand was going to be an issue - it was not. B) I could book in for a test ride - I could YAY On Wednesday I will be test riding the Himalayan, I hope it is as good as the reviews I have watched.

so in September 2023 I took a little jaunt down the south west around the coast to lands End. This is an excerpt from my day 4 coming up from St Austel, and up through Cheddar Gorge. I have to apologise, for some reason I thought the camera would not pick up the gorge so I tilted it which meant I didn’t get the road

Oakley Bike night - American Themed

So on the 6th of July 2023, there was an American Themed event at Oakley Bike Night. As usual a great selection of bikes, along with loads of American Muscle cars and Custom / Hot Rod style cars. Took me back to my youth, I loved looking at the old model Ts etc. Along with this we had sunshine, great food and drink, with the Blues Brothers to boot. Hope you enjoy the Video

Installing quadlock onto speedmaster

After picking up the Speedmaster, the first job is to get a Quad Lock installed. Had most of it, in so far as the vibration damper and the charging head. Don't worry about your age. I'm 63 and I've just got myself a BMW G310 R. The last bike I owned was over 20 years ago and I'm loving it. My only regret is that I waited so long to get back into it.
Are you going off road on it? I am sure you will enjoy it, I got back into biking in 2020 and have loved it all, even getting drenched has been an adventure haha

Apart from the weather, which I could have dressed for, it was a lovely day. I used to work in London for years but hardly ever visit now. This seemed like a good event to be a part of, that’s for sure

How much does it vibrate higher up the rev’ band, may I ask?
any vibration is slight and i only took it to 6000rpm because it is being run in. I do not believe vibration will be an issue for anyone. Get to a dealer and take one out.

It's a sharp bike with basically double the power of the original. Problem that I know of is that it's a good bit more expensive.

When you turn the ignition on it does get a screeching sound which comes beneath the fuel tank is it normal since I didn’t notice it untill I heard

You do not need to hold in, the right mode switch, just the toggle and the mode switch on the left .

Your dumb for ever thinking you would get the cross helmet X1 at the price point that you paid. You scammed your self from the get go. You should have known better...
Question, does the wireless charger have a constant draw on the battery? Or does it stop when the bike is off? I’m guessing a constant draw if it’s connected to the battery itself?
I plug the charger into the power point at the head stock, via a USB adapter, therefore it is not draining the battery. If it was somehow, permanently fixed, I would imagine it could have the potential to drain the battery, although I believe the the small led lamp would not put too much of a drain on a regularly used bike Ian Back on Two Wheels
Hi, you may want to checkout this guys set up regarding the screen adjustment bar, ua-cam.com/video/SLXo5358LNY/v-deo.html I have done the same and it's far better secured on the new bar. I ordered mine from eBay using his search criteria " GPS Smartphone Holder Navigation Bracket fit for Tiger 900/Rally/GT" although sellers are showing only one bar at 22mm (too big to fit mirror mount) - (Also I even asked a seller how many bars which he replied one bar 22mm so they don't know what's included) they do come with two bars another which 12.84mm. Just in case you find if the tape gets wet it may work loose.

It's a total ripoff!!! All they sent me was some kind of helmet that you might use for construction. It sure as hell isn't a motorcycle hemet. There goes about 100$ USD straight down the fucking toilet.🤬🤬🤬
