Batiking a linen sewing project in my dye studio: Part 2, stamping the beeswax onto the fabric!
Welcome to part two of this short series I’m doing about all the steps I’ve taken to batik, dye, and sew a linen dress. I am using my hand carved woodblocks that are specially made just for batiking, and stamping all over half the yardage with this one stamp. I use 100% beeswax and I'm stamping on 100% linen-- the joys of the natural world, in our hand-crafted clothing! What could be better?

Not just any old wooden textile stamp can be used in hot wax, y'all. It takes a lot of testing and knowledge of different wood porosities and planned details, handle shape, etc., to make a successful batik woodblock. The FAST way to boil the wax off a batik! No waiting, no cooling.

Here at WAXON, we advise folks 99% of the time to boil off wax in the pot and then let the pot cool completely before removing the cold wax. But sometimes we just have NO time for that! What can you do? Watch me demonstrate in real time how I use the skim-off method (and the cold water shock) to get a finished batik in no time flat... and zero wax left on the fabric!
