Tried the switching off the auto emergency braking. But if you switch on autopilot from the menu it switches on emergency braking as a default and you cannot turn it off, only for cruise control.

I just experienced this yesterday driving on Transcanada Highway in Canada near Brandon Manitoba. I was on auto pilot and all of a sudden it did a hard deccelaration and scared me so much I just want to get rid of this car now. I have owned a lot of cars in the last 40 years of my life, and have never had accidents and have always used cruise control when on long trips. This is not OK! After it did that, a few km later it did it again so I am not using it anymore. I think it is scandalous to sell an expensive car that can't offer the most basic control option available in any other cheaper cars. Shame on you Tesla for not addresing this issue by leaving it up to us, your customers to figure out how to fix your technology! I was so excited to buy my Model 3 in 2023 and now I feel like a stupid idiot for having been suckered into thinking this company is superior.

I notice some mention phantom braking happens on “bright sunny days” or “approaching overpass or bridge”. I’ve had both happen PLUS on a 2-Lane rural highway with no-traffic-light crossroads. I think the camera picks up the approaching road lines ending at the intersection and BAM the brakes go on hard! Anyone want to test it out on CA Hwy 46 east of Lost Hills toward Hwy 5? Go try it! But not with a semi behind you!

Yes, I have experienced the phantom braking issue with my 2023 Telse Model 3 Long Range on almost every trip I take on the feeway using Autopilot's cruise control. It's very annoying, and as one person below states, could be dangerous if there's someone following you too close. I read the Musk book recently and he's the one that prohibited the Tesla engineering from adding radar sensing to the camera sensing system.......he said no, the camera system is sufficient. Both systems working together would be the best fix.

Great analysis of the phantom breaking. I encountered same issue. In addition, I drive hwy 5 between Sacramento and LA and what I noticed is when there is a glare from another vehicle from bumper or windshield the phantom breaking clicks in. While driving, when a glare is reflected in my eyes the car sees it as well and breaks. I have gotten use to these glitches and prepare to release autopilot when it happens. I reset set within a minute and continue the trip… on autopilot. Autopilot does not release the driver from being in control so prepare for the unseen. I don’t like it but I do feel it will be resolved and we can go on loving our Trslas.

That's interesting but I find the braking happens completely randomly even on open motorways. The only time I have consistently noticed it is when passing a truck. It is so bad I don't use the autopilot now and I certyainly would never pay for the full autopilot because I can;t be sure it will behave as I need it to behave. I'll look at BYD when they get going.

Inside the mind of Autopilot there is sickness as yet undiagnosed and unfixed. When it will strike next no one knows. Consider yourself lucky that this powerful and sudden braking hasn't killed a following motorcyclist...and drained all your resources in court. The legal system is unpredictable...and defending against lawsuits is expensive. Have your lawyer notify the manufacturer, NHTSA, in writing before shit hits the fan...or a car or motorcycle hits your rear bumper.

2023 Y. Never had a time when it braked for no reason in the past year that I’ve had the car. however, at first I thought I did. Here’s why. When i use the gps to navigate and I’m using cruise control with or without auto steer, the car will slow down at the gps turns. A lot of times I will drive straight instead of taking the turn the gps tells me to and the car will slow down expecting me to do a turn.

I had a 2020 sxt plus with other upgrades. I chipped it to 370 hp. And over 300 torque. It was a beautiful car. Then I fell in love with my 2023 r/t shaker triple black. It has upgraded suspension and active exhaust. It also comes with all the track pac racing set ups. It also comes with the last call badge. All in all I love the challenger platform. Too bad the green movement people wanna get rid of internal combustion engines. They will be sorry when they realize that electric vehicles will cost more to maintain and be worst in winter and electricity will go crazy expensive

I have a 2019 Model S Performance and I occasionally get phantom braking. I've found it happens mostly with heat mirage, and occasionally when it thinks someone is encroaching in my lane. I'm always ready to take over in any case. We love taking the car on long road trips, going camping in it, taking twisty roads, and even getting up into the snow. The vehicle has its quirks but I'm proud to own a piece of history.

Tires and Rims are 18 inches not 17 inches as you stated

Mine happens when I am in outside lane in UK on motorways. The car sees a hazard with the car on the inside lane where there is no risk. Sometimes it can be very aggressive and with a car following close behind it is dangerous and tbh not fit for purpose.
