Or companies can continue to hire the appropriate amount of checkers! Self checkout is MUCH slower and less efficient than the human cashiers and companies know this! This whole idea of smart carts and self checkouts are more expensive and less efficient and often are just used as a way to avoid more payroll and taxes. Pure laziness and short sightedness on the side of business. This is one of the many reasons businesses are going to burn themselves out of every last shred of good will from consumers.

Self checkout is usually faster but now stores are saying they're losing money to theft. So after installing 10 self checkouts they want you to pay a premium membership to use them. They just wasted so much money installing them

What a waste, a burner being left un attended only really concerns epileptics, diabetics, narcoleptics, and those with dimentia. A simple dead mans switch could do the same effect at next to no cost. The moment they have an episode/wander off, the burner would be cut. No shitty AI and most electricians could make and install one to most pre existing cooktops.
