fly fishing for salmon on river Strule with Tomek
I guess we’re gonna totally lose Atlantic Salmon and Pacific run Steelhead BEFORE SOMEONE DECIDES THAT MAYBE JUST MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE A MORATORIUM ON COMMERCIAL FISHING FOR A COUPLE DECADES??!!! Here’s an idea; STOP SPENDING TRILLIONS ON FOREIGN WARS AND SUBSIDIZE THE INDUSTRY FOR 25 YEARS!!! I’ve heard their industry bellyache nonstop BUT WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY GONNA DO WHEN NOTHING IS LEFT??!!!
When is the live webcam coming back 😢
My introduction to flyfishing was a movie featuring Mrs. Wulff. I remember my mother being impressed with her casting ability. Sadly she never tried it.
Lee's casting looked so effortless holy cow.
So wonderful to Mr. And Mrs Wulff again. Lived next door to the in the 60's. Still tie flies on the vice they bought me back then. Two of the nicest people ever.
It’s great fishermen of the past I keep seeing his videos with passion and respect for these super fly fishermen who taught us everything
Civilized.
Reminds me of the Dennys River here in Maine back in the 80's. Beautiful fish wish we still had fish able runs left here!
this was amazing! reminded me of my grandparents. great memories
Joan stole the show.
What a treat to see Lee and Joan Wulff again. Lee was a true gentleman fly fisher. Joan was no slouch of a fisher either and was well known and respected for her casting prowess. In 1951 she won the national fly-casting distance title, the only woman in an all male competition.
Pre Switch/Scandi/Skagit 🤔 What was the age difference between Joan & Lee? If you guest 21 years your correct 👑
Marvelous video. Thanks for sharing.
Is that a hardy fly reel
It's a Mitchell. Used them back in the day.
So sad to visit those pools now devoid of salmon but the memories of those that were fortunate to fish them remains.
Shooting fish in a barrel
Absolutely not, I have caught salmon on the Slaney in the east, Corrib in the west, Glenshesk in Antrim, the Blackwater in Cork and numerous rivers in between, despite several attempts I am still waiting for my first fish from the river Moy.
@@TheBdylan23 In low water conditions, salmon wait to come into the system. They flood in there and end up trapped with no place to go. The pool was designed that way. A man made trap for salmon.
Yes i agree with you 100% ..just like the salmon in river bann here in the north .Salmon held back on river bann carnroe for select few .prostitution of salmon angling
Just looking around to see what I can come up with, and it looks like a Mitchell 754 reel. I like the licence plate at 17:42 SALAR
Lee was a real pioneer. Used a photographers vest for holding all his stuff. The inventor of the fly vest!
Women in fly fishing ant so new. I remember these guys in all of the fly fishing magazines. Made big impression on me. Pioneers in this game.
The things we take for granted, like a rubber mesh net on a magnet release! Hahaha!!! Great video. Joan outfished her dude. I love the connection to one another fishing brought them. The way he held onto her hand and arm as they left the water. So cool. I watched with a smile on my face the whole time. Thanks for posting!
I used the same fly I used yesterday.
Very nice video :) Would anyone happen to know what rods Joan and Lee were using? Seems Lee’s was short graphite ...?
Wow listen to that reel scream! What a cool video.
Like the classic reels. Wondeful to see. And hear.
J♥

On a Fenwick fiberglass rod!
Bella cattura 👍👍👍
is that newtownstewart
well done
AND I THOUGHT.... "fish on" was a modern day thing !
love the WIND storm at 10:31 finally ..... reality !!!
Nor a gaff !! ha ha
I loved the whole video, but dumbfounded to the fact the such experienced anglers did not carry nets!
people didn't carry tons of stuff back then, besides the fabric nets from back then would of killed most fish in the netting process. Lee Wulff and his wife joan were two of the best fly fishers of all time.
funny... I've never carried a net in my life... don't even think about them ...
I never carry a net for salmon fishing unless lake fishing from a boat. None of my friends do, either!
Salmon can usually be tailed and its safer for the fish
Yes today flyfishermen are carrying too much junk with them. Only because the salesman told them to. Keep it simple. Its more fun. Fish are caught by fishermen not by fishing equipments... less is more. And the old mens rods and reels are more fun too use. Try it. Simplicity is the key-word. You dont need half of the equipent you carry around.
That had to be around 1970 or 71!
Bad luck mate, springers are strong fish and are easily lost after all your hard work getting that take. But that's salmon fishing!
Where on the strule is this?
brilliant :)
pearse mckernan ur not aloud to fish in that river it’s trespassing
