Understacking is a lovely little thing. In earlier versions of the game, you could blow up an open chest and the game would keep the chest gui open. Any items in there would become stacks of 0, which could be taken out of the gui and put in the players inventory. The thing that makes this powerful, however, is that the game only removes an item from the inventory when you go from 1 to 0. Not 0 to -1, or anything below. As such I could infinitely place torches. As for the overstack of bows, when you saved the game and loaded it, the amount of items you have would be clamped with a 256 value range, being a positive or a negative number depending on what value you had in your inventory when saving. As such, you can turn an understack of any item into an overstack of any item, like I've done with the tools.
