7:48 What a Legend.... 3 in one spot... and the Middle one seems to have a Solar light up top so can see after dark if you pass by it. I use to work during the Summer a few years ago. One town I mowed in had a good size City park and Free little Library near the Parking lot. So, I would find a book and read a little when on my lunch break. Always good books weekly.
First, your sweater is everything, love it! Bloom was my top book of the year, it was incredible. I need more cottage-core horror. A Good House for Children has been sitting on my shelves for too long. Gonna put it in your box for my UA-cam challenge this year.
@books-on-a-wire thank you so much I don't wear it enough but wanted to pull it out for this video!!! 🙌💖 I am with you on Bloom, please more cottage core horror!!!!!! I downloaded one on audible buy havnt read it yet that may be promising called "Summerhome". Also YESSS I would love to hear what you think about a good house for children when you get to it!!! 💯😍
I think me and you are the only people that actually liked This Wretched Valley 😂
@mayatsolova okay at least we are together on this one hahah!!! 💯🙌💖
"This Wretched Valley" sounds like a good one. The self-improvement books are good for getting new perspectives. Great video!
@Jasonbookcollecting I hope you will read it and enjoy it as well!!!! Also I agree about self improvement books! Thank you so much!!
I've only dreamt about two books so far, the first time it was bird box. The second was old country.
@labyrinth_of_rae I need to read both of those books still!!! Having dreams about the book I'm reading is such a rare occurrence It really stands out to me!
Two things definitely caught my attention in this video...when you were showing the wall of animal pictures, the top picture with the Highland Cows is the same one I have hanging on my dining room wall, and my husband works with the sister of the author of the Michigan/American Chillers books, and my kids all had her for a teacher. We live in Michigan. So, that was fun to see! I wish we had a Goodwill bookstore by us. I just started my channel and would love for you to stop by if you get a chance!
I don't know about Goodreads, but I enjoyed This Wretched Valley too. Here's to another year of happy reading.
@Tim_with_Tomes_and_Tales OKAY YESSSS I love to hear it!!! Also same to you happy reading!!! I think 2025 will be a great year!
We seem to enjoy some of the same horror tropes, so I've added some of these to my TBR list (especially excited about A Good House for Children!). Also, I probably need to inject How to Keep House While Drowning directly into my veins. 😅
@Faye_L ohhhh PLEASE read a good house for children!!! I literally cannot recommend it highly enough! Also how to keep house while drowning is the MOST comforting book you will ever read hands down 🙌
@@mikalareads I found A Good House for Children at my library, so I'll be reading it this month!
I know the haunted house trope is youe favorite trope also i lovr the glasses era of your channel
@PoppyMorreale awwww thank you so much Poppy! Also your my horror movie buddy so I wanted to tell you about I just seen the new movie called Presence (it released in 2024 at Sundance I think and this January it went to theaters) it was a haunted house movie told through the perspective of the ghost. It was good but the ending kind of through me off with what the moral or whatever was supposed to be. Also I want to see Wolfman and companion soon
@@mikalareads yeah I wish they didn't spoil so much in the companion trailer
@PoppyMorreale TRUE I really feel like they give the whole movie away lol... it reminds me of the book anniebot I think it's called I havn't read it but would like to at some point
Ooo okay, you’ve got me intrigued about the Gathering!
@@NerdyNatReads yessss I really enjoyed it!!!! 💖🙌
Great 👍
So many good books!! I need to read CJ Tudor this year!
@jaimee-kate I need to read more c j tudor as well, the rest of her back list! I'm 2 for 2 so far on one's ive enjoyed from them so that's very encouraging! 💯
Ive been obsessed with ancient egypt since I was a kid so im biased toward the women in egypt book! Id like to read it too and would love to hear your thoughts on it. ❤
@JesstheBookFreak omg YES!! I am with you there! I need to place a new hold on it and keep reading because it was fascinating from what I'd read!!!
I'm starting the year with just under 300 books to read ahhh so can relate to the not buying books, going to do my best
@BinxThinx YESSS hey starting is what counts and I know you'll make great progress! I got a bit overwhelmed with mine so I would say go slow and try not to put too much pressure in yourself is key!!!
@ thank you for the advice!! Starting was challenging but so glad I did hehe
Yay so glad to find someone else doing a TBR Zero challenge! Loved the update, hope to see more from you :D
@@BinxThinx I hope to have more updates coming soon!! Thank you for watching! 💖🙌
@ look forward to them!!
OMG haha the thesaurus is so random but I totally get it! I love looking up synonyms for my favourite words so I have more variety hahaha
@michellesmelancholia I knowww i was like should I show this? Hahahha!!!! 😭😅🤣🤣🤣 but omg SAME I feel like ive already learned so much 🙌
11:01 Do you watch The Watcher with Ryan and Shane? If not, they are also ghost hunters and their vidoes are really funny and scary! Their humor is what makes it less scary. Top notch production and very realistic ghost hunting!
0:58 I totally understand this struggle! I am a non native English speaker and one of the ways I learned English, especially to write and be more articulate is by watching booktube. Along with learning how to analyse and critique books, I also learned a lot of usages. I highly recommend channels like abookolive (nonfiction), ben reads good (literary Fiction), mynameismarines (fantasy, literary fiction), Chandler Ainsley (Romance) for this! I feel like watching them would help you just like they helped me. Plus you get more bookish content and recs 😉
Ebooks for me are too easily to get distracted with. I'll see an unfamiliar word and I leave to Google it or they'll mention a food and I'm looking up a recipe. Immersive reading mixing physical books and audio are my ideal. Bless your heart (and thesaurus) I would probably identify my problem words or phrases ("I'm really excited to read this") and go from there. You can do it, you conquer that thesaurus. 😂
@books-on-a-wire I totally know what you mean about ebooks being distracting, I swear anytime I pick up my phone I get lost down a wormhole! I recently finished one ebook and I was SO PROUD OF MYSELF LOL 🤣🙏 I love immservie reading too!!!! Hahha the thesaurus it's so random but actually SO calming to my brain reading it's crazy 😅🙌
Great mix of books! Psychology, cats, Egypt... If you are ever interested in reading about American history, William Bennett's "America: The Last Best Hope" is really good. I had a good time taking notes while reading through it.
@Jasonbookcollecting Thank you so much, and also thanks for this recommendation!! I will be adding it to my tbr to check out soon!!! 🙌💯
Girl you might have a ghost! Hope he's friendly lol be kind to yourself if you don't get through everything this month
@alissajoelle5443 ughhh i hope not👻🙅♀️!! thank you thank you thank you for this comment 🙏 😭❤️
It's pronounced RO- zhay (like the sound of the s in treasure). There are lots of videos on YT that tell you how to pronounce words.
@Pushindazees lol thanks. I've never watched a video about pronunciation before 😅 sorry I don't do that much research before videos I just talk about what I like 😬
That is a very ambitious TBR. Please don't put too much pressure on yourself. It's okay to DNF. I like audiobooks too, but I also recognize there's a difference between them and words on a page. There's a performance going on as the narrator recites the work with inflection and tone. It almost becomes a radio play, and it can affect my experience both in positiveand negative ways. I also have to remain on guard when listening to an audiobook book, so it doesn't become background music where it will go in one ear and out the other. Whether words on a page or audio, I need to remain vigilant against distractions and focus on the book. Anyway, happy reading.
'Billy' Eduard Albert Meier (BEAM) has written many books. He will be 88 years old on February 3rd, 2025. He writes in German, but several of his books are bilingual, with German on the left side and English on the right side.
She’s lying 😂
Also nobody does amazing covers better then horror books
I completely agree-horror book covers are truly a work of art. I love how they draw you in!
I actually liked 2025 wolfman
Ohhh I'm excited to hear that, I hope to see it on the next Tuesday (cheap movie day lol), Then I seen there was another one out called Presence which looks like a scary ghost movie, we might go see that one! I seen Nosferatu and LOVED it 💯
@@mikalareads yeah I want to see the monkey also and I loved noseferatu it was nice seeing Lily Rose depp in a good movie
I'm so drawn to 90s horror and the artwork on the covers. I've been collecting goosebumps too and the fear street books. They're so fun to read! I haven't heard of don Willington but they look good! ❤
Theres a bundle of Fear Street books on PangoBooks in my Wishlist I REALLY want to buy! Im trying not to buy a ton right now but they are calling to me!!! 90s horror has that nostalgic vibe that’s hard to beat. I’m excited to dive into it the Don Willington books! Happy reading! 📚👻
YAYYY so happy that I was pass Bloom along to someone who loves it so much 🥰 you're so welcome friend!! 🫶
Thank you so much! I appreciate you passing it along, and I'm BEYOND excited to add it to my collection! 🙌💌🙏💯📚💖
One of my goals this year is to read as much of my physical books as well ! And not buying more books 📚 cuz I don’t have a lot space and I have enough books to keep me occupied for the rest of the year lol 😂
Thank you for sharing your goal! It’s great to hear that you're committed to enjoying the books you already own as well. This is exactly where I'm at as well with my shelf! Happy reading!
I liked the Obama book. He seems very intelligent and thoughtful in it. The Shirley Jackson book is cool. I haven't read anything by her. Good luck with your job change!
I'm glad you liked the Obama book! His insights are truly inspiring, I think I will learn something from his book. Shirley Jackson is a fascinating author, and I'm sure you'll enjoy diving into her work in the future (my favorite to start with is The Haunting of Hill House). Thanks for the well wishes on my job change!
I love Jaimee's channel! I watch all her vids too 😊 glad to see you happy talking about books! ❤
Awesome to hear you love her channel! Books and good vibes all around! 📚✨
I’m the same way with hardcover books. I feel a little irritated when books are only available in paperback. I’m currently reading vista nostra and recently purchased Thirteen tales by Diana and was to able to purchase a used hardcover. Enjoy your new books 💕
Same here! Hardcovers are where it's at. Vista Nostra is one Ive been thinking about rereading for a second opinion on it because when I read it the first time I wasnt in a good headspace, but think I would like it more now! ALSO Thirteen Tales is one Ive always wanted to check out! Let me know how you enjoy it! I'm all for snagging used hardcovers. Happy reading! 📚👻
having just reread Bunny and annotating it to further analyze it, oh my gosh, I can't wait to do that with Rouge! I'm PRAYING I get to Mary next month!!!
That’s so cool! Bunny is a wild ride-can’t wait to hear what you think of Rouge! Also I hope you do get to read Mary soon too!!! 🙌💌
Intriguing haul there. I don't know if I will ever be able to get by TBR down to zero. If I did, it means I gave up reading and unhauled all my books for some reason or another. Happy reading.
Thank you! It can be tough to manage the TBR pile, but every book read is a step in the right direction. Happy reading to you too!
I'm about a third of the way through Rouge and I'm like wtf is happening? It's got me but I'm still not sure what is going on. 😂
@books-on-a-wire okay you are not alone because I felt this way the entire time reading it hahah!!! I kept feeling like WHAT IS GOING ON 🤔🫠🤣
Just found your channel and loving your videos. Wanted to say how nice it was to see you sharing how you felt. I've def been in this position before and sometimes feel like I'm the only one who feels like that. This def made me feel less alone and I wanted to comment to reciprocate.
@racheldida THANK YOU for commenting!!! I deal with this so often where I feel like I'm the only one who feels this way and it really helps me to know others understand. I'm sorry you also deal with similar things but also it helps to know we are not alone ❤️ thank you for your extremely kind comment!
Not me tearing up at the end. I just wanna give you a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE hug. Since I can't - here's a Ghost Hug 👻 - You can't feel it, but you know it's there! You got this. ❤
@natalieharroch-harper7247 I APPRECIATE THIS SO MUCH! Thank you my friend!!!! 💗💖🫶💘💓💙❤️👻👻👻
I’m adding mirrorland to my tbr. I recently read a Head full of ghost from Paul tremblay which I really enjoyed. Last year I read Educated it’s a memoir (totally unexpected and I recommend) and the next memoir on my tbr is Notice. 💕☕️
I hope you will like mirrorland!!! And OHHH A Head Full of ghosts is one I still need to read, I hear great things about it! I've read from him before the paulbearers club and the cabin at the end of the world, and tried to read one of his short story collections. I've heard though people love a head full of ghosts so I need to give it a try!! Ohhh ill also add educated and notice to my tbr! Hoping to try out more memoirs!!! 🙏
I don't read a lot of horror novels, but I do dip my toe into the genre every once in a while. So, thanks for the recommendations. I did read a couple of spooky books you might enjoy. There's Those We Drown, a nautical horror novel from Amy Goldsmith. Then, there's That Which Stands Outside, a Nordic folklore horror novel by Mark Morris. I think you would like these. Happy reading.
Ohhh I'm adding the both of these to my tbr now - they both honestly sound up my alley!!! Thank you for the recommendations!!! 🙏🙌
@mikalareads no problem. Keep up the good work.
I bought Carmilla last year and i'm saving it for halloween this year. 😍
YESSSSS OMG I'm so excited for you to read it! I would genuinely love to reread at this Halloween as well!!! It's the perfect book for it!
Also I can appreciate a reviewer who likes books that major sites dislike
Thank you for saying this! Sometimes I worry people will discredit me for it 😅 but I gotta be honest! I have a few on my number 1 faves of the year that are also kinda generally disliked as well 😭🫠
Did you see the movie trailer for heart eyes
I just saved it to my watch later so I can check it out!!! 🙌🙏💯
I so would have grabbed the Harlen Coban book, I am so into his books right now!
I like Darcy Coates. But I didn't care for Hunted. It's the only one of her books that I've read so far that's not supernatural.
@debbiehines6803 I finally read Haunted and I enjoyed it - but I especially do enjoy stories set in a spooky wilderness setting! I've also been reading several of her paranormal books and I've enjoyed most of them!
@mikalareads I think had I known, it was a murder mystery going in. I may have enjoyed it more. It wasn't a bad book, just not what I was expecting.
4:29 I have read that and it’s counter part. It was such a good book. Very sad and heart wrenching but such an amazing read! Highly recommend especially since they definitely did research behind everything as well!
@@donnagregory1053 ohhh thank you for this recommendation!!! I will definitely be adding this series to my tbr! Sounds great!!! 💕
I remember seeing Jeff Probst's books.
7:03 awww i used to have this as a kid 😭
