Earth Roaming Chronicles
Canada
Приєднався 29 лис 2024
Our channel is about getting out in our EarthRoamer and Jeep, camping and exploring the outdoors, finding out-of-the way places to experience nature in our own way. We travel with our greyhound and two whippets, make few plans and challenge ourselves to push ourselves past our comfort zone. We are new to off-roading and overlanding, but we are having fun figuring it out. We hope we inspire you to get out and seek adventure as well.
We Broke our EarthRoamer
As we are driving from Santa Barbara headed through Los Angeles our EarthRoamer breaks down. We talk through what happened, and how we resolved it.

This is our return trip from Calgary to Vancouver using forestry and hydro roads and crown land as much as possible. We explore the Trans Alta Falls trail in Alberta. We head up along Revelstoke Lake and wild camp. We travel along the Greenstone Mtn Lookout to Tunkwa Lake Road near Kamloops. We take the Cornwall Fire Lookout and Hat Creek Road from Cache Creek to just before Pemberton. We camp ...

Good attitude. Why did turbo break?
🐾👣🌮🍺✌️ I once blew a motor ( small class B ) $2000 tow bill too get her a place to put new motor .
Yup. It is a risk and it sucks. But still fun to get out there! Thanks for watching.
So glad you were able to get off a California freeway and into a safe spot. So lucky. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
We were so lucky. If we had been far up a trail or on the connector between 101 and the number 1 on the coast, the tow or repair would have been so much more challenging and expensive!
Wasn't the truck under Ford Warranty?
It was used 2016 so no warranty left. It only had 20,000 miles but was outside the timeframe for warranty. It is a risk of buying used.
@EarthRoamingChronicles well it's certainly a nice rig. Seems a shame the turbo has already failed. Hopefully the new turbo will have some kind of warranty. Good luck, stay safe
In case anyone is wondering, we threw out the pillows and blankets.
man those whippy's are fast 😳
Nice truck , looks like ur on king shocks ? not Liq. Springs 👍Was up in Alaska 2.5 mo. this summer .. demster to Tuk & N. Yukon , Banff , revelstock , kootneys , Vac. Island ... all this summer ... Beautiful country ~peace~
King Shocks with air bags. We are hoping to go to Tuk and Alaska this coming summer. We are very excited. We can’t decide if we are going to tow our Jeep or not. You will see in upcoming episodes that we take our Jeep south and use it quite a bit exploring the California and Arizona deserts. Do you have thoughts about taking it north?
@@EarthRoamingChronicles i prefer not towing anything , never have . I've done gemini's bridge trail in Utah in my truck , don't need a jeep. I've done a lot of baja , don't need a jeep . 5th yr F/T , works for me. 🙏~peace~
@ Awesome, thanks. We initially thought we wouldn’t. Makes life easier without it in many ways. But the ER is big. We have found the Jeep fun for going a bit further down some trails. But I think there is enough wilderness up north that you really don’t need to go far off the road to find it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yes you are crazy!!!!
@@titicolon10 ha. Thanks!😀
If you are just wanting a video showing scenery with background music, you accomplished that goal. However, what viewers want with these types of videos, especially given the title, is much more information about the camper. What worked and what didn’t? How did you use the different systems on the camper? Those type of things is what the viewer wants to see. Your video quality is very good. Good luck on future videos.
Yes, thank you very much for your comments. Our definition of “shake down” might be different than yours. We’ve just purchased the rig and we were trying to learn how everything worked while travelling. Sorry if that wasnt what you expected. Having said that, we’re currently working on a more detailed breakdown of the systems but to be honest, we’re far from experts on the topic. EarthRoamer has many vids that might provide you with more technical information. Sorry to disappoint.
@ please don’t be sorry as you did ask for feedback on how to make the content more meaningful. You have a beautiful rig and we all want to see more of it, its functionality and how you use the different systems on board. I look forward to seeing more from you.
Nice camper 👍🏼
We agree! Thanks.
There are lots of primitive camping sites in Southern Utah and eastern Utah.
@@utahboy17 we love Utah. We’ve been there a couple of times with our Motorhome. Can’t wait to get there with the EarthRoamer to get on some trails. Thanks for commenting!
Yes, understood. That was the reason for rushing through the Pacific Northwest and into California. We’re currently in AZ camping in the desert.
That was awesome guys 😊 loved seeing the puppers
Thank You. They are a big part of our lives. It gets crowded indoors sometimes, but we wouldn’t have in any other way. This lifestyle lets us travel with them.
I look forward to seeing the upcoming episodes. I like the ER but I am concerned that it is not capable of handling the Canadian West.
We head south for the winter (California and Arizona) to hang out in the desert. You will see how in handles in sand and canyons. We take many of the trails that our favorite overlander channels take.
I think you would be surprised.
Not to be a buzz kill but I thought this was a shakedown but there was no information about the camper at all. Just a whole lot of trees and music
@@gmpromo depends on your definition of shakedown. For us it was. It was a 2 week trip from Vancouver to Calgary and back to see where we could take the rig into the wilderness, to see how it handled and to learn the systems ourselves. We are currently on a 5 month trip. Future episodes will cover interior, exterior and how we live in it. We would run out of material pretty quickly if we just covered all systems right away. We have received some great feedback and suggestions, which we hope to cover in upcoming episodes. We appreciate you watching and taking the time to provide feedback. Thank you!
Love the camper ❤
Thanks!
11.40 did u really said u switched 4low?? Like the road is just normal dirt road u can take ur family saloon.. 2weel drive roads.
The puddles were deeper than they appear on camera and some of the hills were pretty steep. Plus, it was our first trip in it so we were trying things out. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Also, your family saloon doesn’t weigh 20,000 lbs nor does it include a complete house.
Only a 6 minute video. Can u do a back story on why the ER vs a canadian built Loki or Storyteller? What about fees to bring across? Why this model? They have about 10 or more pre roamed. What are it's interior and exterior features? Did you get the custom logo plates and glasses?
@@AndrewHammans importing was a process. It had to be a model that was between 2009-2017 per ER’s registration with Canada’s Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV). We did get ER plates, glasses, knives and pots. More to come in upcoming videos.
I just subscribed after finding this on UA-cam. I love the interior of the ER's though I prefer the rear dinette with windows. If I watch all the previous videos I guess I'll get my answer but did you buy it?? I'm waiting for my lottomax retirement plan to kick in. Why the ER over a Storyteller or Loki?
@@AndrewHammans thank you so much for subscribing and commenting. We spent a lot of time weighing the different options and settled on ER mostly because of the quality of the interior. We did look at the Storyteller too. We also had a price range in mind so it needed to be used. We liked the preroamed rigs and the fact that ER inspected them first. We will provide more details in future episodes.
Looking good guys
Thank you so much! We just started our channel so we are still trying to figure out what people might like to see. Maybe we’ll cross paths one day. That would be fun.
Well that’s ironic because we are just about to start putting a “breakdown” video together. Our turbo blew on the freeway in Southern California.
Yikes that's an 8 hour job even when it's possible to remove the cab. Hopefully you were close to a place to stay.
@@EarthRoamingAdventures it was 10 hours. They couldn’t get the cab off. We died on the side of the highway on a Friday afternoon. They couldn’t even get parts until late Monday. Fun times!
It's always a Friday with a holiday weekend thrown in for good measure
Thank you for the videos on your travels. It's nice to see someone videoing the Earthroamer in action. I've only seen one other channel of someone going on far excursions off the beaten path. I look forward to new adventures. I think someone is going to get a lot of exercise following behind or ahead... You might want to get a 360 camera or a drone for the future. How is the space with the 3 dogs?
@@Andrew-xv2eg thank you so much for your comments. Yes, we do have a drone and will be using some of that footage in future episodes. We may buy a 360 camera as well. Great idea. Although we could both use the exercise. It is a bit tight at times with the three dogs. We had the back seats deleted so that they can sleep in the cab. We encourage the greyhound to sleep there as she can take up a lot of space. But we make it work.
Yeesh that thing is way too top heavy!
Yes it is a bit but thats the way Earthroamer designs them.
sehr schöne Tour !
@@heinerschumann7866 thanks.
"I've truly missed videos like these, where you explore new destinations, discover hidden gems, and revel in the beauty of the scenery-this life feels like a dream come true."
@@claudiosakaeshigemi6889 thank you so much. We are still trying to figure out what people might like to see. The feedback is appreciated.
❤❤❤ seen you guys come through Kimberley well Marysville 🐾👣🌮🍺✌️ There’s a road that goes from Kootenai national Park called settlers Road and you can take it all the way down through Bull River to Jaffrey
@@touristiqueducanada346 do you think it would be wide enough for the EarthRoamer? We are still trying to figure out how to find good trails without getting ourselves into trouble. Future episodes may show us getting in over our heads.
@ it is wider than the gray creek pass. Very beautiful valley when you get to the Bull River, it is best done from the Kooteney Park downwards as you’ll be driving downhill most of it.
@@touristiqueducanada346 thank you. We will be driving through that area again in late spring so we will have to check it out.
U dont like it. Kiss my backside. Buy what u want. Mom n dad approved. ❤❤❤
In your previous video you had a loss of power and overheating issue, did you figure out what the issue was?
@@davidmckee1277 apparently this is a problem with the 6.7 ltr engines. I’m told that 230ish is ok but I’m very uncomfortable with it. The additional issue is that the rig is 20,000 lbs. we added an air to oil cooler and replaced the engine coolant to oil cooler with a larger HP unit. Helped but still hasn’t solved it yet. I think I need another air cooler. Thanks for the question.
@@davidmckee1277 I have a f550and when that happened it was my clutch fan that was dying. It died and left me on the side of the road. 335 bucks to change it out.
Love it!!!❤❤❤
@@AmericaBound thanks! We’re very new at this.
Thank you!
Great film, beautiful landscapes. But give us some information about how the ER170 works, what is the fuel consumption, how and where do you fill up with water and how do you live and sleep in it
@@kojotkjj8614 thanks for the comment. We planed to do a full “tour” of the rig if in another video if viewers seemed interested.
Awesome video looking forward to seeing your further videos
Awesome thank you!
Finally someone who use its vehicle for what it suppose to. Greetings from the Netherlands
@@guidok3762 we hope to. You haven’t seen anything yet.
Have a look at our previous videos. Please comment so we can learn and grow so we can make improvements for future videos.
love that you started your channel. I am building a Wanderbox and will be out there in a few months. I looked at ER and the Hilt too m
Possibly speak on what options you could do without? How the air ride system holds up under flex? Any issues with the camera security systems? Love what you are doing!!!
@ great questions. We’ll be doing internal and external episodes in future videos. We will see if we can include your questions. We don’t have the security system. That would be nice. The quiet ride dishes setup takes up a lot of space, so we are a bit unsure how we feel about them. There would be a lot of noise if we didn’t have them though. Keep watching! We have an interesting episode coming up.
Love the video. Thank you for sharing! Do you use a BDR guide book for navigating the Canadian backroads? If so do you recommend one? Thank you
@@davidmckee1277 we use OnX Offroad to find the trails and iOverlander to find camp spots. On Grey Creek Pass we had to just pull off the road and camp. It was getting too dark to continue. Also, it is still an active forestry road so we needed to make sure we were tucked away a bit. We really should have had radios to call out our location. We just aren’t sure which to get yet. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Happy Merry Christmas New Year ❤❤ love video You don't need no special license to drive them from Virginia ❤❤
@@charlesayers5387 no special licence required as it doesn’t have air-brakes. But it could use them.
