I'll just add that diabetics all get free prescriptions so no profit from the patients directly, big pharma will of course be profiting. My injections alone cost £75 for 4 weekly doses. Blood testing strips actually cost the NHS more than diabetes drugs, I just looked mine up on Amazon and they are £15 for 50 strips there. I get a shiny new meter each nurse appointment because the drug companies give them to the NHS for free since they make the profits from the strips and lancets. Continuous blood monitoring devices cost £1000 upfront with sensors costing over £100 a month, these are almost exclusively used for kids. The figures also ignore the fact that the highest group of diabetics are the elderly, so not the fat slobs that the Fail would like to make out. Half of all people with diabetes in the United Kingdom are aged over 65 years and a quarter are over 75. Thus, 10% of people aged over 75 years and 14% of those aged over 85 years have diabetes Weight loss surgery has proven to be cost effective in diabetes. The NHS recoups the money spent on diabetes care within 18 months to 2 years. The government has actually advised the NHS to do more surgeries but these departments are being cut back to save money. In NHS Fife they have permission to pay for up to 30 surgeries a year but they never do that many as the hoops you need to jump through are ridiculous. If 50% or so of the population are overweight or obese it is not down to self control as the Fail would like us to think. It proves there is something systemic going on that needs tackled on a population level. Me update; I'm still fat and diabetic and costing the NHS a fortune!

I didn't know you were vegan, Dal is one of my favourite foods too (I still eat meat though), I might give that cauli rice a try but it does sound pretty vile. Update from me, my GP referred me to diabetes dietician a couple of weeks back and I got the letter today they won't see me cos I'm too fat! I've got to go to the special dietician for folk with a BMI over 40. I've already been on their waiting list since last January. They had a 22 month wait before covid so god knows if I will ever be seen.

I was so sorry to hear about the diabetes Chris, it really sucks and I hope it is under control as I seen what it can be like when it is not under control. Xxx I was in similar situation with an antipsychotic called respiradone (not with diabetes though). I wasn't told I needed regular blood test with it to check hormone imbalances or that and I was so desperate for help I just took them. Anyways, long story short, it turns out one the embarrising side effects of respiradone is it increases prolactin levels in women which started me lactating. Been off the medication 7 months now and it only just got better. So now it decided to go with absolutely zero medication for my mental health and see how that does. Xx

Iv paid tax for 55 years if I end up taking bennifit I'll gladly do it. That's part of why we pay tax. Dosnt universal credit loan you money so you don't go hungry..

Good morning Chris, respect to you for what you are doing for the mass raising awareness encouraging people to become more active where so many feel just like otherwise giving up. I think it was on day 10 of your hunger strike in your video where you mention mental health discriminination and it being said there is no connection with foodbanks and universal credit and you rightly defend there is a link because it's about ones going hungry needing to use them and so many others dying. I am not sure if you are an ex children's social worker or one for adults or one who supported others with mental health issues illness or disabilities, because i just wanted to ask your views about parents who have personality disorder type diagnosis used against them part and parcel to taking their children for 'forced adoption' and what you think about when parents who are wrongly diagnosed too and your thoughts on the ones who do this. I haven't watched all your videos yet as i have only just come across your blog, book and videos, so forgive me if this is answered already. What i have noticed is that in many organisations or businesses ones are not treated accordingly with diversity in mind and instead we are all being moulded into a one size fits all bread tin but then there are flaws in that bread tin as none of us are perfect human beings who have come from that one big family tree. Without me going off track further amore, have you covered timescales and problems with those and letters for appointments where the appointment date is dated at an earlier date to when ones have been sent an appointment showing a later date on the same letter for example and if you was a social worker for children's services, where many parents have had personality type diagnosis used against them whether the diagnosis has been a correct one or not then what was your views on this before as a social worker and what are your views now you yourself have said you have this. Chris,I applaud you well done,There are major issue in job centers i have proof whats taken place from peoples rights being eroded and young people with a lack of life skills being taken advantage of, all of this is a major story that press will never touch because it will expose the truth what jobs centers main aim is to sanction and put people in to more hardship not through there own doing but through advisers playing game on peoples ignorants its a disgrace,

I have Charcot Marie Tooth which I got high rate mobilty and DLA, which was for life. This was confirmed by a proper doctor. Years later I was diagnosed with scoliosis (comon with cmt) also spondylitis and arthritis. Pip came along had my assessment which I was not examined, infact she refused to after I asked her to, I was then reduced to lower lvl. It went to appeal again I was not examined! DWP was repesented by a lawyer, what chance did I have against him? I lost but was told I could appeal in the high courts! How much does all this cost by the way? The pip assessment the appeal took alot out of me , some would consider em strong and even I felt on the very of jumping of the dover at times. Lucky I got good friends around me. I feel for those who do not. As for UC like Keyna, this is something I am too dreading. This instant debt alot of pain and hardship. had to edit am also dyslaxic :D

Even when people are awarded their UC their is no guarantee of payment. When you go to the payment section of your journal it says that the amount of your award is dependant on your circumstances since the last payment. This has the affect of making people live under constant fear & anxiety. It appears that the amount isn't decided until the assessment period which happens again at the end of every month. We also have to re sign our commitments and re read the sanctions section every month. It is unbelievably demoralising. We already know about sanctions why do we have to repeatedly have our faces rubbed in it? You're right ~ this hideous system isn't us. It does not speak for us. It does not represent me. I will contact my local MP ~ Amber Rudd. I am literally sick from suffering in silence. Now I know I'm not alone. Your hunger strike has inspired me to act outside of my austerity prison. I'm sure that others will act too. It's incumbent on us for the sake of sanity & compassion.

The people who implement all this likely genuinely believe that the only people they will ultimately penalise are those people who make living on benefits a lifestyle choice. Anyone who can work will have found themselves a 35 hour week job within 12 weeks or something like that.

And one of the main problems is at the end of seven weeks.. So two weeks from application to first commitment meeting then 4 weeks from that date to receive first payment if nothing goes wrong..then you only get one payment that covers one month at the end of it and if you've had an advance which is like £200 for the seven week you need to pay £40 back every payment

I hope that I'd be a human being and try and find out if they were ok, if someone had missed a meeting . I think that would be the human thing to do. This system is inhumane. Thank you for protesting on my behalf.

I wasn't told of crisis payments until 28 days in. I was then told it had to be minimum of £100.00. I live in Hastings, East Sussex now a "full service" UC area. It's dire.

Hi Chris all the best. Just watched the Walk a Mile in My Shoes link . I must say well done for raising awareness I would never have guessed from watching your videos you were a sufferer. It shows how it can be an invisible illness. I've not been immune to mental health problems (depression) and I know its hard enough to admit to yourself you have a problem never mind put yourself out in public so well done again.
