In essence, it's EVE with added NPC behavior and mission generation. CIG threw away their "No org should rule a system" design to basically give large orgs the freedom to fight for a system's domination. The chain of events therefore will be pretty similar to how things in EVE evolved where those huge stations in space will act similar to how Titans worked out in EVE, which were hidden at some locations and others tried to find those to fight them off.
