    She than started yervoy. It didnt help her at all. After 2 treatments her cancer had spread as little tumors all over her body and she was admitted into hospice. She lasted 28 days in hospice before she passed.

    Her melanoma started on her forehead and traveled to the lymph nodes in her neck. She did zelborof that helped her for about 9 months. Than she had a reaccurance when the melanoma spread to her lungs and adrenal glands.

    She is doing ok just got her second dose of Yervoy last Wed. She has been sleeping most of the time and having problems with nausea and bowel movements but hanging in there. The only thing that concerns me the DR said normally people do not feel anything till the 3rd dose so Im hoping it will be nice to her she gets the 3rd dose Aug 8th. We are all keeping an eye on her and calling the DR each time something comes up.

    "Just skin cancer." Sure, and a tornado is "just an air current." I agree, stay away from the tanning beds! Don't oil up and sit in the sun, and for heaven's sake wear sunscreen, AT LEAST 30 spf I'd think. You remain in my prayers. May God give you strength!

    I have heard the same thing when people say oh she just has skin cancer they just do not realize what it can actually do. We regret the same thing if only we knew more about it this could have been preventable.I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the relay for life since you mentioned that Im going to do some research and see if they will be doing one in my town. As always I thank you so much for these posts :)

    Thank you for your positive and encouraging comments. I am glad that you are going to put together a chemo bag because I found the items I mentioned to be very useful during my four weeks of chemo. That's a great idea of putting together a positive booklet! Sounds like you are a strong positive person as well. I would like to follow your progress and provide support if I can. Please subscribe to my blog and click like. I'll subscribe to you as well. May I ask what type of cancer? Praying for U

    Thank you for your video. I never thought about a chemo bag, but I'm going to make one! I got my port in last week and get the stitches out tomorrow, then start chemo and radiation next week, I'm pretty scared, but I'm going to do my best to stay positive, just like you said! I thought I might make a little booklet of positive sayings, poems, funny cartoons or stories, anything that will help me. Then I could take it out and look at it...maybe add it to my chemo bag! Thank you.

    Thank you for answering my questions. Wow you really have been through a lot. I was not a candidate for Yervoy due to health issues. I am currently taking Interferon injections which I am experiencing severe flu like symptoms with high fevers, chills, and body aches. I have only had three injections have had bad side effects so I will be discussing treatment plans with oncologist on Monday. That is great news about your tumors shrinking!!! I would like to stay in touch- donna.piunt.gmail.com

    Thank you for responding to my comment. I do understand that it takes longer to respond back to comments due to undergoing treatment... Thank you for your positive encouraging comments. The purpose of my blog is to tell my story and offer encouragement for others that are going through this dreaded disease as well as raise Melanoma awareness. June 2 I will be walking the track for Melanoma in my local town. I especially appreciate your prayers!!! I would love to stay in touch. Donna

    Thank you for letting me know. I know that this appointment was very difficult with a lot of information to absorb. I am stage 3 b also but only had 1 lymph node involvement. Due to my health issues of IBD I would had been rejected from the clinical trial however I had already decided that Interferon would be a better fit after doing research on both drugs. It helps to do your own research so that you can make a more informed decision as well as gain a better understanding to talk to the doctor.

  • @jessdesk1
    @jessdesk1 12 років тому

    Well we found out that my mom has stage 3 b melanoma with 2 lymph nodes involved she was given two choices yesterday for treatment. First choice was Interferon 5 days a week for the first month then 3 times a week for the remaining 11 months. Then there is a new clinical trail that is a mixture of Interferon and Ipilimum administered the same way the cost for this treatment would be free since its a clinical trial we are leaning towards this one.

    Hello Donna I wanted to let you know that my moms surgery went well and she was able to leave the hospital the night of her surgery. Even the strongest of people get emotional at times so don't be so hard on yourself. It helps me to try to look at the brighter sides of things. Yesterday, when parking my car at the cancer treatment center I noticed signs that said "Reserved for cancer patients only" so I took a picture of it and posted it on my Facebook page and posted "looking on the brighter side, I get a good parking spot" LOL You will find things to laugh at when you least expect it:)

    I agree it would be better for her to rest at least one day after surgery. I have to tell you that you are an answer to prayer for me because I started my blog in hope that I could help others learn about Melanoma as well as encourage others that are affected by Melanoma. I do understand the shock with your mom being diagnosed with Melanoma. Some days I still think it is a bad dream but then I realize that this too is a part of God's plan for my life and He will be glorified through my life.

    Its going to be under her right armpit I hope they have her stay at least one day in the hospital so she does not have to move around so much right after. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers it means a lot and we will do the same for you. Its hard taking care of my mom since she is my best friend and I never imagined this I try to stay strong but I will admit I get really emotional at times.

    What area of her body is she having a lymph node dissection? When I had my inguinal lymph node dissection I had to stay in the hospital 3 days. I do not know if the region where the lymph node dissection is removed makes a difference as to how long of a stay in the hospital? Please keep me posted as to how she makes out with her surgery. Just know that I will be praying for your mom but also for you as well because caring for a loved one is very tiring. Stay strong!

    I will continue to update you on my results. I am currently undergoing a form of chemo called Interferon alpha 2 B injections 3 times a week for the next 11 months. I completed 4 weeks of 5 day a week of IV interferon which was not easy. I continue to experience flu like symptoms from the treatment which are severe fatigue, fever, chills, and stomach upset. Taking different meds that the doctors recommend help to lessen the symptoms. I just take one day at a time and trust God has a plan for me.

I will post hopefully tomorrow night or Sat morning about my moms surgery we are still unclear if she will get to come home right after or stay in hospital for a night.

    It is good that you are doing your research regarding your mom's cancer. I did the same thing and it prepared me for my first appointment with the cancer doctor. I was able to grasp a better understanding of what to expect for my treatment plan as well as to make a more informed decision regarding my treatment. I appreciate you inquiring about my results and as of today I have not received a phone call. I do have appointment on Monday to see my surgical oncologist so I will find out then.
