THE MAN WHO WAS THE CORNISHMAN - THE TWELVE DAYS OF HERBERT THOMAS 2023 PROMO
Turning History into Theatre Camidge & Stringer Present The Twelve Days of Herbert Thomas Come share the Cornish Christmases throughout the life of Mr Herbert Thomas, editor of the Cornishman newspaper for over forty years. Mr Thomas was quite the local celebrity, a poet, mining expert, songwriter, adventurer and very much a larger-than-life local character, as you will come to see. It’s Christmas Eve 1950 and over many glasses of rum n’ shrub, a very elderly Mr Thomas shares the story of his life with his housekeeper Mrs Stringer.
This show brings together historical Christmas newspaper stories, advertisements, photographs, and music for a jolly multi-media performance bursting with nostalgic magic.
“A wonderful double-act, who combine humour and fact-finding to bring true stories to life… laughs a-plenty” - Cornishman Newspaper

Sealed up and almost forgotten, underneath the far end of Penzance promenade, lie the remains of an old underground swimming pool. …Forgotten, that is, until Camidge & Stringer’s show ‘Pool Under the Prom’ brought the old poolside back to dramatic life - and with it, a host of other local stories spanning the years 1890-1947. On stage (and on film) are Penzance bathers Mary-Anne and Molly. Base...

This is a set of photographs that I put together for my father's funeral on the 27th July 2021. I used the Kinks song 'Days' because the words sum up how we all feel about him. The photographs show Fred Dean playing with his Daughter (Me), his son (Jamie Dean) , his Grandchildren (Alice, tansy and saskia) and his Great-Grandchildren (Billy, Amiya and Ameya). Always so much fun Fred Dean 1931 - ...

Drip, drip, drip. Sealed up and forgotten, under the Penzance promenade, lies an underground swimming pool. Splash! In 1890, two young women meet while taking the waters. Over the years as they continue to bathe, a stream of stories trickles between them: Peeping Toms, the Titanic, WW1 loss and the scandal of the Cornish carnival queens. An epic tale which spans 70 years of Cornish bathing, unt...

Qué gran escritor... Buen vídeo. Muchas gracias 😊❤
However, many of us Boswell's are there...😂 I one as well
Although I don't live in my home town of Penryn anymore I grew up in Penryn. My first school was the infants down on the Praze. I went to junior school on the terrace, and senior school at Penryn School on Poltisco Road. All this whilst I lived on Polwithen Road as a kid in the 1960s. I bought my first house in Highland Park in the 1980's and although I now live in Mullion I will always consider myself as a Rynner. Penryn will always be a special place to me.
Found this after reading the Grarwolves blurb on spotify and wish there was a better quality recording of this because it's sick.
PAS dead impressed to find a local historian in my local town!
My dear, could you please try and find pictures of these buildings being constructed??? I’ve spent several years looking into some of the older buildings and their construction. Only problem is I can only find pictures of scaffolding that appears to have been put up to renovate not built ? Some of these have actually been labelled as construction photos yet the building is clearly already finished.😂?
Rip grany boswell
The great Queen to us Boswells
I love that little park at the beginning
I wonder if we are related some were down the line 🤔
I really enjoyed that! Lovely to hear about a lady who was both ordinary and extraordinary.
Her powers were nothing. Absolutely nothing.

My 5th Great grandparents were Rememberance Boswell and John Locke. Were they related to Granny Boswell? I'm struggling to get past my nan Rememberance line to find a connection but she's so fascinating and beautiful. My boswell Lockes were mostly around Shropshire area.
Proud to be a Boswell
Still have my photos of her. She was my great grandmother... Unfortunately a lot of rubbish has been published about her over the years,,mostly by attention seeking gaudji's
My late cousin was Izer Boswell

Proud to be a boswell too ❤❤❤
Where can I find the Boswell history , I was born a Boswell and would love to get some history about the name but cant seem to find a book on the name. If anyone can help please message . Thank you
What do you want to know the rs a lot of us and whose are you
What area are you from? I’m a Boswell from Worcestershire

We aren't but some romani did go to Ireland as they also went to America
It's not we are romani she married my great great grandfather ephraim
I’m a Boswell my names Ayla Boswell and the last known gypsy from the family is my great great grandad
What you mean gaill your great grandad was the last gypsy it don't make sense you a boswell as is me and my grandad who is 60yrs richard boswell iwrite this because he can't read or write very well
@@richardboswell9306 Yh my great great grandad was a gypsy and there’s many Boswells out there I dunno his name but from what I’ve been told he got killed in ww2 my great grandad was in a concentration camp during this and didn’t label himself as gypsy aftwr that neither did the rest off the fam that’s all I know so I’m guessing something went down that stopped everyone from referring themselves as gypsy I dunno though that’s only on my dads side my mums side is Hispanic so there is no links there to gypsies

What a fine piece. Well done for bringing this little known story to the attention of the community . Great to see some of the sights too.
in harmony too!
Very nice video. I like the wrtings of Wilkie Collins too.
That was really interesting. She was my mum’s great grandmother, she heard about the bag of spiders story too. Thank you for making this.
Are you related to Gordon Boswell of Spalding too?
She was my great great granny as well
@@439bananas Granny Boswell isn't related to Gordon Boswell of Spalding, she married into the Boswell family. Her name was Ann Kingston
The bag of spiders bit is funny.
Same, remember my gran showing me old photos of her.
Torsten BfG Harris really, that's so fascinating god bless to all . Still chatting about the old girl today mind blowing. Xx
Thanks for posting. I visited Kensal Green long before I discovered Wilkie Collins - it would have been a perfect setting for one of his wonderful novels.
Awesome job. Thank you. She was my great, great grandmother. Jackie Mihalec. Melbourne Australia.
Jackie you are related to me.
Does she have any connections to Remembrance Boswell? She was a Roma gypsy from Shropshire.
Martha Rudd died in 1895.
Absolutely brilliant Jak, loved the story...and the errant dog!
Craig should know, his novels feature this rock and those that live within.
Would be better without the background music.
It isn't "Logan's Rock", nor is it pronounced "loe-gun", but "logg-un". It's the local way of saying "logging", and to log was to sway. When tipped off its perch, it slid sidways (eastward) and was caught in the crevice immediately next to it. A print in the Logan Rock Inn clearly shows it in this position.
yes yes yes lovely show
This was such an awesome gig!
shit i got to meet her there!!! :D
fuck life
Was a great set from sharks! Well done for getting a vid! Back in Bristol July 10th at start the bus aswell!
