Connecticut Envirothon is a natural resource based education program that was started in 1992 by the state’s Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
High School Students work in teams led by a teacher/advisor. During the school year, teams receive curriculum materials and are invited to a series of training workshops in the Envirothon Study Areas of Soils, Aquatics, Wildlife, Forestry and a Current Environmental Issue. These workshops are presented by foresters, soil scientists, aquatic ecologists, wildlife biologists, and many others. Students really benefit from meeting people working in a broad range of environmental careers. Teachers also benefit and find the program a wonderful source of networking and professional growth for their own careers.

Super helpful content, I love learning about these critters
your lifespan of the house cat is greatly exaggerated - on average it's 13-17 years old - NOT 27! We need to write/install laws to make it illegal to let owned pet cats roam. Pet abandonment should also result in stiff penalties - not slaps on the wrists. There are leash laws for dogs - we need containment legislation for owned pet cats as well. Groups who are working on the problem through TNR - it would be better instead if folks could work together on the problem - there is a way to do this humanely through education, TNR of ferals, low cost or better yet FREE spay/neuter clinics and rehoming those individual ferals who can be socialized. It is a complicated problem but there are solutions. We don't have packs of dogs roaming - so we can indeed tackle the issues of cats too by working together.
