Backyard DIY Stream and Waterfall Reveal

It's been another mild winter in New England, so I've been hard at work adding on to our pond. Used a 20'x15' liner to create a new stream bed/waterfall combo plus pond like pooling area. Lots of finish work to be done - stay tuned for how the landscaping will bring this to life this year! #diy #waterfall #waterfeatures #diywaterfall #koipond #backyard

Looks great, keep adding more!
That's the plan!
Beautiful 😍 Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thanks for watching!
Your trees are looking great PJ! The drought, warm weather and wind in NJ have taken a toll on mine this year. A lot of my small trees had the leaves dedicate right as they were starting to turn. I always enjoy your videos, keep it up!
Thank you! And same here - we got 12” of rain on one day in Aug and then almost nothing since.
Your garden and pond/stream are looking really nice PJ. Great work. I guess I will venture into videos come spring.
Please do! I can’t wait
😍
That ending of the champs. Great vid
The real ones know!
Wow amazing autumn tour, thanks PJ ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice! Thx for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
That summer gold is stunning, how many years has it been in the ground and at what size was it when you planted it?
I got this in spring ‘22 as a 3 gallon. It’s really grown well!
@@Koipondpete unbelievable, it looks incredible! Beautiful garden.
Goals
Gables Glory is a stunner, wish I had room for it. and Kumoi Nishki is super underrated... I scored hard last year and found a 6.5ft Kumoi Nishki chilling at a local nursery.
Love that! Underrated fall color too!
A fellow Japanese maple enthusiast here! Loved the trees and video, thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
I could only dream to have a garden like that. Where I live in Ireland is zone 8/9 and usually get strong winds and bad cold snaps. I don't really have much suitable garden to do something as majestic as yours but some day, who knows. I am growing in pots an Acer palmatum atropureum and acer little princess. I would happily have be surrounded by Japanese acers all day long. Truly beautiful ❤ May I ask what zone you are in? I Ireland there is never really long spells of sun which would be the only positive so sun scorch shouldn't be a problem 😅
Thank you! I am in zone 6b in New England. The strong winds can be absolutely brutal for JM’s. Keep going the pot route!
Beautiful kamisaka Nishiki. Where were you able to find it?
I was lucky enough to find it locally! But MrMaple seems to be one online retailer I have seen selling it (when it’s in stock).
I'll be planting out a bunch of seeds from various neighborhood Japanese maples this winter, and your Bloodgood seedling got me excited about hunting through hopefully a couple hundred in the coming year or two. That is some spectacular rusty-red color on your seedling - I'm not a fan of Bloodgood, but that little guy is amazing.
Yup! Never know what you’re going to get!
The conifers and maples work so well together. Thank you for sharing. Will definitely subscribe to see how your beautiful garden grows! What zone are you in?
Thanks for subscribing! I am in zone 6b
@@Koipondpete What do you do with the japanese maples in pots over the winter?
This is actually the first year I’ve had potted maples. As long as we arent getting prolonged stretches of single digits or below, they should be ok.
Thank you PJ for another beautiful garden tour. I am excited to see the fall colors 😊
Me too!
It's always great. Your video is excellent quality. We liked and enjoyed to the end. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great job. Pls give us more video's to view and enjoy.
Working on it!
Great video
Soo nature-ish, surreal, peaceful, healthy plants. You are blessed to live among these plants away from neighbors. Creator God is so good to give His children nature.
what is your location / zone? Perhaps consider listing that in your channel bio.
6b southern New England
Just my opinion but I did similar to u. After a few years my biggest regret was not installing larger, more specimen boulders and planting too many maples. When I did another garden I focused only on my must have maples and used unique ground covers to highlight them. IMO I went from a mere display to a cohesive collection with more interest and the rocks did not get lost and obscured
I remember looking at your older videos when you got the Mila and how the leader broke off. That bad boy took off and running. My next buy
Totally worth it!
I’m sure you have spoke about it in other tour videos but what is the skinny weeping conifer in the foreground at the end? Thank you!
It’s a weeping white spruce, Picea glauca Pendula
Thank you much! It’s gorgeous
Amazing Pj as usual, thanks for share it i love to see it grow, greetings from overseas 😎
Magical 😍.
Looks like all your trees are looking very healthy and you are getting some nice new growth. Can you share what specific fertilizer you are using and your dosing procedure ? Some growers have conflicting opinions on what n-p-k ratios are best, so it can be a confusing topic. Whatever method you are using seems to be working great, and we are in the same conditions you are in, so I am all ears !
No fertilizer for me, but have brought in a lot of good top soil and compost for my garden areas. The rest of the property has minimal soil over top of developer fill (reason why my lawn is struggling 😂)
Gorgeous, thanks for sharing
Beautiful tour as always! Thank you for sharing. 😊
Great video and collection! Does your gold drift get more yellow for you towards the summer? I want one due to the yellow color. How does the tree look in the winter? Does the color dull down a lot? Maybe a fall and winter conifer garden tour update in the future?
Definitely will have a fall conifer video! The older growth does hold yellow on the tips of the needles well. The new growth is just starting to get yellow popping in.
What zone location are you in?
6b
How old is your Summer gold?
I’ve had it for 3 years, bought as a 4 foot tall 3 gallon.
Beautiful. I recently got a 'Gable's glory' by mail, its leaves were grayish and subsequently crisped up. Good news is, there are several new buds emerging, so I think we've got resuscitation. Hopefully it can survive the year and get in full swing next season!
Good luck! This time of year is tough for shipping, but generally they bounce back well.
I find such calm in watching your videos! Top tier content!
Thank you brother! It’s very relaxing outside
Better year by year, the sound of waterfall with this color show is like a paradise, great job PJ, enjoy it!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
This garden is dope. 👍🏻
Thank you!
Beautiful as always! I love your garden, and listening/seeing the water features puts it over the top. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks so much!
Another question, do you ever apply any type of foliar spray on your conifers or maples like liquid kelp? Or do you ever water the roots with kelp or seaweed?
I have not, no
That Soul Fire looks very interesting! I have an Icebreaker and it has started to turn pink in some spots. I'm wondering if it is from my own doing. I spray some grass killer near it (that is supposed to be safe for plants) and I'm wondering if that caused it and if so, will it be able to recover. Question, how do you prep your flower beds for planting? Do you till the bed or do you use card board to smother the grass? Lastly, I'm assuming that this is your forever home because who could ever move away from a garden like yours that you paid for and created! Lol
I generally stay away from any sort of weed or grass killer for that reason. Rather be safe. If I’m building a new bed over grass, I’ll put cardboard down then soil/mulch over the top. Worked so far. And yes, hopefully here for years to come!
@@Koipondpete thanks, I have Bermuda grass and it finds an opening any where that it can through the cardboard and mulch in my bed. By anyway, you have a very beautiful and diverse garden of maples and conifers!
Good luck and thanks!
I enjoy the video's of your garden, your plants look great! Some new conifers that I'm not familiar with, Thanks for sharing.. \\
Thanks for watching!
Oh, great....now I want some more evergreens. I thought I was done for the season!
Gotta have them!
Thanks for mentioning Wilson Bros. I keep forgetting about them and definitely want to place an order from them. I also love all the pictures I’ve seen from the Shin Arboretum. I live 20 minutes away and would love to visit.
I’d love to visit one day!
Great video I really like all the conifers you have chosen. Taylor sunburst is one of my favorite pines.
It’s definitely a spring stand out!
Nice collection. Thanks for sharing. Your Usu Madori is a sweet looking tree. Adding that one to my list to look into.
Perfect for a spot with all day filtered sun!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Nice collection. Thanks for sharing. Helps to get ideas. I looked up Blue Moon. That one is striking.
Exactly, watching other videos has helped me a ton. Thanks for watching!
Everything looks awesome!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and the water feature so peaceful 😊
Thanks for watching!
Wow amazing garden! How big is your pond? Just trying to get an idea for what I want to build.
It’s about 9x12’, deepest section is 3’. 16’ stream coming off the hill.
