Gainax has gone bankrupt.

And now, as of June 7th, 2024, Gainax is done for. They've gone bankrupt, and the name trademark has gone to Studio Khara.

This video essay is very interesting and well-made, I'm a love live fan since 2016 but was still able to learn some details here, the buildup and editing are very good. Keep up the good work :)

The funny thing is, on Sony Cameras according to some Honest reviews by non-mainstream camera reviewers, Sony Cameras has been having some problem on the Custom White Balance/Custom Setting features. Probably because it's new waters for them.. don't know since I only used Nikon Cameras so far.. But I do hope that Sony doesn't "Westernize" ( Woke-ify ) anime because as a fellow Asian, I don't want Extremist Western stuff in Dominantly Asian stuff. Just my opinion on the matter

It was pretty necessary. They would’ve overshadowed any following generation. Love Live would’ve just been Muse and others. With no Muse around there’s room for multiple Idol groups at the same time. Aquors, Niji and others all have room for each other.

Nijigasaki also dropped the premise of entering the titular Love Live competiton. None of the main 12 idols compete in it.

In a way it is, Aqours is the current leader of the franchise, led by Anchan, and maybe Aikyan.

For some reason that synopsis vaguely reminds me of Shine Post (Great show btw I feel like it doesn't get talked about). Although main girl doesn't really hate idols.

we call this a business monopoly in the tech industry. Vertical / Horizontal integration, it's legal because it's not a "real monopoly yet" and may never be. Sony as a media company is still too small, as a tech company it's still to small look at it's competitors. Disney, Warner brothers, Naver, Kakao, Tencent, Netflix Sony is tiny, but it does play a big role in the animation industry. Including Kadokawa! Crunchyroll (Sony subsidiary) Bilibili Hidive Netflix iQiyi I don't know the korean & japanese sites. Anime is bigger than sony, (bandai namco, nintendo... etc)

Yeah, if CD selling less than 10k copies, live BDs selling less than 5k copies, multiple game EoS, venues' capacity getting smaller and barely get any attention/popularity from outside of fandom is the definition of 'sustainable' for a franchise, then your standard of being an idol fan is just saddening. Current state of LL is no different than Im@s; greed overwhelm the whole franchise which resulted in the dying process of the franchise itself. Open your eyes wide and ask yourself, why so many bad news after Muse's disbandment? Still, many so called 'veteran' fans (fake, actually lol) have been spreading misinformation that it was franchise's decision to end Muse while the reality is that it was Muse themselves who wanted to stop or had no intention of renewing the contract. At the peak of their popularity, the seiyuus as well as their agencies had equal or more power compared to Love Live CEOs/staffs. To make matter worse, Kisara Yohei (Muse's manager) also lean more toward the girls than the franchise itself. He left love live not too long after Muse disbanded as well as other staffs who have been working with Muse from the starts. Holding live for Muse basically goes like this: requiring permission from agency > Kisara Yohei > the seiyuus. If one of them refuse, then poof no live. Compared to other groups, Muse is THAT strict. And their busy schedule make it even more crazy. Love live dont want this kind of problematic system which is why they accept new seiyuus under their pre established/cooperating agency. Abusing Muse like Liella's schedule in 2012 forward is like a death sentence. Lastly, oh god it's been 7 years after their final live and you guys, new love live fans, is still under the impression that everything must be compared to Muse which is pretty stupid. Instead of making yourself look silly, try keeping the salt to yourself if your fav group is still less popular than a dead group when outsider of this fandom talk/cover of Muse's stuff.

No matter what new love live will be shown, Muse is my number 1 group of love live. it's very hard work and trial to make that today love live still popular. If other love members became the first group to debut, Love Live will not be good as today

I already know for the fact they fucking lying about this from the get-go especially with the HGS fiasco.

I got into LL right as µ's disbanded, and for a good year, I was a hardcore µ's fan. I took in everything I could take of them, and pretty much did over the course of a few months. I was pretty heartbroken that this new group I had come to love was gone for good, but I was at least happy that there was a whole back catalog of content to take in. Eventually, I grew out of them and got into Aqours, to which I don't necessarily care for µ's anymore. That being said, I absolutely respect the grind they had to go through. It was an upward battle, and seeing µ's go from a few hundred copies sold on their first single to thousands filling up arenas not even 4 years later. That's massive for them. For that, I will forever respect them for making their way to the top and paving the way for my favorite idol group of all time and the rest of Love Live. Great video.

u's paved the way for every Love Live thing to flourish. They haven't overstayed their welcome, and their brief 2020 return was as touching and heartwarming as it should be. They had a job, and they delivered. While u's is the strictly anisong group, it's from Aqours onwards when the Love Live formations become more pop proper (all praise Kanata Okajima) without losing their goofy anisong touch that makes the older tracks so endearing. Man, I love Love Live so much.

I still think it would be pretty cool if they eventually brought back some of the older members in supporting roles as adults. After all, the lore of LoveLive! is that the earlier groups end up inspiring the new groups, so it would be only natural to have them meet. I've always thought, for instance, that after Aqours, Ruby would go one to have an actual career as a professional idol star, with You as her costume designer. Kanan would of course take over the dive shop, and Mari would take over the hotel business, you know, that sort of thing, in my head canon.

That final idea? Is not very dissimilar from the plot of Shine Post...

If I want an instant cry session, all I have to do is watch the finale of the final μ's concert. LoveLive! will probably always be my favorite Japanese media franchise of all time, with BanG Dream! a close second. Both of them are so relatable to my own life, having been about the closest thing you can find in America to a school idol, myself, being part of the music theatre culture at my high school, and then having gone on to perform in a band. I grew up in NYC and went to a high school where admission is by competitive examination only, much like Japanese schools, and like many Japanese students, I rode the subways to school and back. I also just before that school attended a Roman Catholic school where uniforms were the norm, and as a result of this, much of what I see in these franchises feels like my own life.

Sadly Aya Maruyama's VA quit her seiyuu career because of health. So for a while Aya will not be voice until they found a suitable replacement.
