THE QUIET MAN
no more
will i see the crinkle of the laugh lines around his eyes
or hear the low rumble of his voice
his hands
hands rough and strong enough
to shape raw stone
into places of comfort
or things of beauty
strong enough for that
but gentle enough to comfort a crying grandbaby
no more
to raise a glass with him
and treasure the stories he could tell
this man whose approval we all sought
this man whose love we all had
slow to anger
and quick to laugh
our patriarch
our rock
our grampa
the quiet man
is no more
