    Thanks, just bought a Performance series kit and I'm going to do this. I'm not a fan of Virgina bass drums.

    This video eased my anxiety to try to mount this myself. I was so afraid of drilling into my Gretsch renown maple shell, but it wasn't bad at all. Just make sure you mark your drill holes correctly and precisely, or you're gonna have to work a little magic and use a little force to make sure the screws go in correctly, and with ease. Also with my renown, the shell seems to be a little thicker than most drumsl, so I went to Lowes and bought a 6 pack of slight longer screws than the ones provided to screw in. I've transitioned to using the lightweight stands, and after using regular stands and clamps to mount the toms for this particular kit, this was a great investment to help me stay with the lightweight stands.

    Hi I have just received mine that had no template for installation. Is there any possibility that I could get a copy of that email to me?

    Wow I also play DW and Yamaha. I have had the same thoughts about putting this mount on my DW bass drum for quite some time now. Now I will just go ahead and do it. It beats carrying around all that unnecessary hardware. Besides it has already been drilled like you mentioned. Sleishman are the only brand that I know of that are true virgin shells.BTW I am really interested in your custom snares too. Cheers from a Rockabilly Drummer in Australia.

    Thanks, the instructions indicate a 3/8inch hole?? What, that seems way too big and I agree the 7/32 SB just fine. I'll email dw to clarify their instructions: 0.375=3/8.

    Imagine the floor space you get mounting the toms on the drum that always gets muffled. i hope you get your 72 virgin bass drums. lol

    I'm getting ready to do this. Your video is very helpful. I also have the template from DW, but mine is slightly different from yours. If I follow mine, the mount will sit closer to the batter head. On yours, you've got the mount closer to reso head. I've just reached out to DW for clarification. I want to get it to DW spec, but it appears they have two specs!

    Nice job! An added benefit of the additional mass of the mount is a lower fundamental pitch compared to a virgin BD.

    No one can listen to a professional recording and tell if the kick drum was virgin or not, just like they can't hear if someone is using wooden sticks or if their resonant heads are coated.

    The bass drum tom mount is the way to go for the gigging drummer in my opinion. Nothing changes unless the L arm gets moved in the trap case. Nice job!🥁

    The biggest difference on DW collectors Maple is to let it age, my 2008 kit was underwhelming soundwise,now it sounds much , much better,fatter rounder, i never believed theories about this to be honest. I have the single tom mount,with cymbal holder, handy,solid, and practical.

    Glad to see someone else doing this, it’s certainly opened a lot of convenience for me, and I can safely say that it has no perceivable affect on the sound of the kick after installing. After having installed this on two different bass drums, here’s a few interesting tidbits for anyone reading this: -Before drilling, I used a 1/4” bit with a hammer as a “punch” to guide the drill bit for each drilling spot. -I used a small drill bit at first to go all the way through, then using a 7/32” drill bit and the pilot hole, I drilled about halfway through the shell from the top first, then used the pilot hole to guide drilling the rest of the hole up from inside the shell (this minimizes the outer plies of the shell from coming apart as the bit goes all the way through). -I’ve installed these on Gretsch Renown Maple bass drums, which are thicker than what the provided screws can handle. If you need to do this, I bought 1” 10-24 bolts and additional washers to secure it. Thanks for making this video!

    The DW 9991BD is a single tom holder version of the double. I have both depending on whether I want 1-up or 2-up

    Bass drum mounts really won’t make much of a difference if you’re already putting a lot of muffling in the BD anyway. I like that mount so you can bring the toms closer…great for long led short torso guys like me. Great video!

      @@yosemitedrumcompany7577 I do love their hardware tho. I play mostly vintage drums but always use DW hardware. I just picked up some lightweight 6000 stands for brining to gigs, and they work great for being so light.

    100% Correct !!!! Drills do have Torque setting that bring the possibility of damage to a minimum… But a Cordless screwdriver would be the perfect tool !!!

  • @paulrevelli
    @paulrevelli Рік тому

    Better to use the drum key bit in a cordless screwdriver as opposed to something like a drill. A cordless screwdriver has much less torque and the chance of doing some damage (when either loosening or tightening) is greatly minimized.

    • @Drummer55
      @Drummer55 Рік тому

      Most drills have a clutch. Finger tighten then set the drill it to the lowest setting and increase as needed. It's crazy how guys get so worked up about changing a head, then put their drums in the car without cases.
