The Ohana in Kauai 2023
Back to the Islands for the Ohana, this time to Kauai and good thing too. The tragic Maui Fires started after we arrived on Kauai. We still are concerned for all of our Maui friends and the people of Maui. We hope that everyone who have been affected by the fire recovers very soon.

I bought this 510 and did an engine swap on it in 1972. Initially it was my only car, as well as my daily driver, rally car and autocross car. I sold it in 2000 and later tried to find it hoping to buy it back one day. That day came in 2018 when my cousin Ken, who is an avid automobile collector, found my old 510 for sale. Needless to say, that was a miracle in itself. To be able to get it back...

Ori's First Time in the Garage
Переглядів 563 роки тому
This was the first time Ori got to see what's under the covers in the garage. He didn't want to go back in the house. Once we got him back inside, he kept grabbing our hands and leading us to the door out to the garage. Unfortunately I missed filming the first five minutes, which was hilarious! He was so excited babbling about his new discovery.

    I remember meeting Jeff when he managed the Firestone shop on San Antonio Rd. That car was beautiful, Jeff had a picture of my original owner 510 hanging at his shop, which I still have, albeit now completely updated with a Rebello motor, 5sp, 4 wheel disc brakes, coilovers , etc.😊 Great to see this video.

    Another great swap was putting a 240z engine into a 510, it took a bit of firewall modification but everything else was pretty straightforward. They worked really well and made great rally cars.

    I just saw this last night. I have pictures of your car from a 1982 and 1983 Autocross at Deanza College. Loved the Bluebird logo and thought it was the best "Five and Dime" ever. I remember it just tearing up the course with racing slicks too ! Great you got it back and restored it although I liked the light blue metallic color more than the dark. let me know if you want me to scan in the pics and send them to you...

    Great work and a fantastic cousin! Wondering if you kept the stock rear-end in it? Was contemplating a similar build with an MGB, but the rear wouldn't be able to hold up.

    • @speedbuggy5558
      @speedbuggy5558 2 роки тому

      Ran a 510 back in the day in Pro Rally... The rear differentials are surprisingly strong. We were contemplating building an open class car powered by a 215 Buick V8. The Diff from a 240 / 260Z was larger and stronger and Many people used them in open class. There's plenty of 280Z Differentials available and they're more than strong enough for almost anything within reason. And there's CV style axles now too, that are quite strong and readily adaptable. The Subaru people are in many ways responsible for that. The differentials are similar and they run very high horsepower engines with virtually no breakage issues.
