I can say without a doubt, I grew up in the best generation

I hate that I took my childhood for granted, I remember saying “I can’t wait to grow up” and now I’m grown up and I would do anything to live those days over and over again,yeah I was an awkward kid that did cringe things but I would take that over being an adult anyday. School was also way much better then work, at least I had a small handful of friends to help me get through those days unlike work.

For us elder zoomers, I think 2004-2008 was a very special time. Many remnants of the late 90s were intact before the recession, and they impressed on us a real sense of optimism. Most people saw the internet as a place for learning and exploration, not yet as a primary social space. Real world settings like malls and skating rinks (and book stores for nerds like me) dominated youth culture. The world wasn’t perfect, but the vibes were amazing.

In terms of 2000s media, the shared experience of early internet culture and prolific cable TV are long gone but very clearly treasured.

I remember when the titles of UA-cam videos were above the screen, not below.

im 26 now, a classmate of mine is running for mayor of our small hometown we both still live in. He got more votes to be on the city board than any other person in my towns history a couple years ago, and his city government has improved the town more than anyone since I grew up here. My generation doesn't want to see the world burn, we want to watch it shine brighter than the sun. We don't want the "golden days" of our grandfathers. We want to make our own. Please stop making your trauma ours.

As someone born in 2006, people born from 1997-2003 have no right to be sad. At least you guys got to enjoy the 2000s and early to mid-2010s as conscience children and teenagers. You guys had the luxary of not being a pre teen and teen in the late 2010s and early 2020s where the only "fun" stuff was shit like Ugandan Knuckles, zoom bombing, Among Us, and devious lick. tl;dr: Don't be sad that it's over. Be happy that you got to enjoy it before everything became shit.
