How I Pack My Pelican Trek Sport 82 Utility Sled Ice Fishing
How much can you put in a Pelican Trek Sport 82 Utility Sled for ice fishing.
Best sled for money in my opinion.
Comes as a kit, tow hitch - hyfax runner kit already installed and comes with a cover.
This sled came from Costco Canada but other retailers in Canada sell this model of sled. Such as Home Hardware.
In the Pelican Trek Sport 82 Utility Sled
We have packed
Otter Vortex Pro Resort
Vevor Deisel Heater - exhaust - heater tube.
ice auger - Milwaukee drill - 2 batteries
Car battery for diesel heater
4 ice fishing rods - tackle - lights stored in XPS ice fishing rod bag.
3 tripod chairs
5L of additional diesel
ice peg adapter
butane stove - cast iron frying pan - extra butane
cook set -pots - plates - pan - cutlery - cups - kettle
Little buddy heater ( propane heater ) 4x 1 lbs propane tanks
24 squares of foam mat flooring - 96 square feet
collapsible foldable shovel
Might be a couple things I am missing but believe I have covered majority of what has so far fit in the sled.
There is a bit of space left to put our food and toiletries for when out.

      Just outside of Moncton, If your looking at Ice fishing make sure to test the ice where you are and test the thickness every so many feet you travel out onto it. It is early ice conditions and not everything is safe yet. We were on around 4 inches of ice where we were sitting, 20 feet away there was only 1 to 2 inches of ice which is not safe. should have at least 4 inches to be safe for human walking.

    Have you had a chance to put the diesel heater to the test in the pro resort? Does it heat it up pretty well? Also do you get any condensation build up?

    • @lucamadventure6675
      @lucamadventure6675 День тому

      @GregWillett-u6n i tried the diesel heater on land in -5 to -10 degrees Celsius. We put down foam mat flooring around 3/4 of floor layout. There was still bar spots on ground. When the diesel heater is outside it has to heat the outside air so it has a harder time heating the air up for when it comes into the tent. With diesel heater outside it heated ok but would still want a hoody or jacket on as it was still a bit cold. I did not have a temp gage for this so I do not know temperature it heated to inside the tent. I moved the diesel heater inside the tent with the exhaust exiting out under the skirting of the tent. I took a small piece of tin flashing from a steel roof to go over the exhaust pipe so it would not burn the tent. Bent in a triangle form with exhaust passing under it. Ran the diesel heater for 20-30 minutes inside the tent and seen around 15 degrees Celsius according to the temp gauge on the disel heater sitting on the floor. Diesel heater was set on medium. When it hit 15 degrees I put it on low and it kept it at 15 degrees for the remaining 20 minutes I was in the tent doing the test. It was hotter near the top of the tent as heat rises. The diesel heater is a dry heat. If you open the door longer then needed the tent cools down quick and takes a little bit to warm back up. The diesel heater is I believe a better heat then a propane heater. Propane heater might give off more heat but is a humid heat and makes everything damp and is more risky for carbonmoxcide poisoning. As long as your exhaust is working correctly on the diesel heater you should have low risk of carbonmonxcide poisoning. No condensation build up. Hardest part of the heat source is transporting a good battery, extra fuel and the unit depending how long your looking to stay out. Hope this helps I will know more when i get to try it out on the ice when it freezes up. I will post a video in the next comment of the Pelican sled I picked up. Near the end of the video it shows how we had our flooring laid out and how much exposure we had left of the cold ground. We have purchased a few more mats to cover the rest of the floor since.

      I was out late this afternoon evening in the eskimo quickfish 3 non insulated ice tent. brought the diesel heater. Set up heater inside the tent with exhaust venting out under the skirting. was able to regulate the temperature around 15 degrees Celsius according to the temp gauge on the diesel heater. bit of frost build up on walls but nothing to dramatic. mainly outside inside temp exchange frost.

Was hoping to get down to bay of fundy for a cast in the mix of everything but weather has not been good. Thinking I will be waiting for snow and ice fishing now.

    Do you have an estimate of the time you can spend on the water in the Kawasaki before fuel becomes an issue vs the Yamaha? I hear the Kawasaki is very thirsty which means the water time would be low and refueling is needed often vs the Yamaha machines. Thoughts?

    • @lucamadventure6675
      @lucamadventure6675 2 місяці тому

      @danav3387 good question, it all depends how you ride. The ski can be fairly fuel efficient if crusing around 40-60km hr just on plane no boost or around 25- 35 mph no boost. I want to say on the supercharged ski you could get 150 km to a tank cruising not pushing boost some what safely. I never just cruise, though. I push the ski from time to time and play some while cruising. We did a 100km round trip. I cruised, and I played around and I arrived back to the launch with around half a tank from full and then let a buddy take it for a ripper and still had above 1/4 tank, prolly just under half. Another day, I did around 100km little less then half tank. Cruising 40-60km-hr Then burnt 1/4 tank in 25 km wide open. So it depends. I never did a complete test of how far I could get just cruising till I run out. But if one was to just cruise just on plane in medium power mode I am sure one could get 150 km safely. 3-4 engine hours of semi constant cruising Most of where I go we ride for 30 mins. Rest for a hour, ride for another 30 mins, rest a hour. Etc. Multiple times throughout the day. I can be out for a day 5-8 hours hanging out and arrive at the launch with 1/4 to half tank. I have yet had my fuel light flashing. If all you want is wide open throttle then no machine is going to be fuel efficient. 2hr run time maybe. If your out leisurely pleasure cruising 3-5 engine hours. more maintenance on the supercharged ski's. If looking for fuel efficiency and not looking for power get a non supercharged ski, will also be less maintenance. Another thing to keep in mind. Who is your dealer? What are their reviews? How is the after the sale service with warranty or repair if required. Google the problems with each unit your looking to buy. Each brand and models have problems. None are perfect. They all eventually brake in different ways. Kawi has treated me good over the years. The ultra 310 has treated me fair so far. Few little things like exhaust filter that is an annoyance to replace each year unless you want to bypass it. Other then that in 70 hours changed exhaust filter twice. Had wiring recall done and amplifier for radio. Changed oil once a year. Semi minor scenarios. On my kawi - well maintenanced with 70 hrs all plastics in good shape, hull is good. Engine still strong, no paint flaking or things falling off. I'm happy with it so far. If you want to view a fair amount of kawi content check out jd waterwold. He rides in some pretty rough stuff off the coast of Florida. He has a lot of maintenance videos but also because he prolly has 200 hours on his ski by now. I was looking at the fx cruiser but I am happy I picked up the 310lx. If I were to buy a second ski I would prolly go with the 160lx less maintenance scenarios. I am not brand loyal. I just try to pick my battles in maintenance scenarios and what I am looking to have in a unit.

    thanks for sharing. nice river. will do it someday. my parents live out that way but we tend to have the skis in the water at the cottage in Cocagne so really don't trailer. will do it before year end though. ride safe

      @djchopperd it is a real nice river. You will definitely want to make a day out of it. Bring a lunch etc. Launch in rexton and check out the dunes if water is not to rough. Then head to Browns yard and back. There is a few spots in Browns Yard that people will beach to hang out. Same at the dunes. You can definitely make a day out of it if you want to.. Approximately around 30km from rexton to brown yard one way.

      @@lucamadventure6675 thanks for the info. will definitely plan a trip in the near future. Maybe I'll use Terry as my guide

      @djchopperd you very well possibly could. He should know the river enough now. Few spots to watch out for, other then that it is pretty straight forward to navigate. After the main river bridge it is not marked. Best to go with some one who has been on the river before up towards browns yard after main river bridge. But if you watched the video. Good majority of spots I traveled in video is where the channel is. Or has been safe to travel so far. There is some sand flats in some sections were you can end up in 2 feet of water. If it looks like a sand bar it probably is. Lol

      @ConejoMalo247 we can only do what we can do. Try to do it at the best of one's ability and hope in the end they are better than the one doing the guiding. She definitely got a little pep in her step hearing it for sure. I appreciate the comment. All we can do is try. Thanks for watching
