Sometimes doing good is the most evil and damaging thing one can do. As Alan Watts put it, Spanish inquisiton was under the pretense of 'doing good'. Salem Witch Trial was under the pretense of 'doing good'. Vaxxers and liberals who want to shove their toxic ideologies down people's throat are not doing anyone any service. You cannot force people to be good. Look at Big Tech? What good has their censorship brought other than disdain and outrage by people? These people who run social media are also under the pretense of 'doing good'.

I cannot get past 7 minutes of it. Lao Tzu was calling out all the virtue signallers. How difficult is to get it? Hallie was all along side stepping with semantic pilpul talking about "ego" and being "centered" when both of you are missing the real point and crux of the argument. Go to Twitter. It's all about one-upmanship. Who can be wittier? Who can be wiser? Who can be 'more' holier-than-thou? As for real life examples, think of smoking. I was with my uncle who came to California. And he was smoking at the beach and some lady (probably a sjw lib) came up and pronged: "So people are smoking at beach nowadays?" Sure she doesn't smoke nicotine but became one judgemental person. Which is more horrible or more 'evil' in one's book? Same with fatshaming. People become fit or sober and they start judging people. This is just ONE facet of the problem. Problem with people is that we think the Universe is somehow 'flawed' and we don't trust the Divine Intelligence. On one hand we do yoga and preach "All is One" and then go to vilify Muslims for being intolerant, or shed tears for environment or cry our bleeding heart for animals...whilst people die on the streets, etc etc. Sometimes it is best not to engage at all and let Cosmic Drama play out itself. Again think of Twitter and how many lives the social justice warriors ruined with cancel culture. I think one poacher had a literal mob outside his house receiving death threats. Yet the mob was under the pretense and guise, that somehow they are being sooooo self-righteous. Lao Tzu the greatest shot-caller in history well saw through this in advance millennia ago. There is a reason why his teachings are timeless. /end incisive commentary

It's becoming clear that with all the brain and consciousness theories out there, the proof will be in the pudding. By this I mean, can any particular theory be used to create a human adult level conscious machine. My bet is on the late Gerald Edelman's Extended Theory of Neuronal Group Selection. The lead group in robotics based on this theory is the Neurorobotics Lab at UC at Irvine. Dr. Edelman distinguished between primary consciousness, which came first in evolution, and that humans share with other conscious animals, and higher order consciousness, which came to only humans with the acquisition of language. A machine with primary consciousness will probably have to come first. The thing I find special about the TNGS is the Darwin series of automata created at the Neurosciences Institute by Dr. Edelman and his colleagues in the 1990's and 2000's. These machines perform in the real world, not in a restricted simulated world, and display convincing physical behavior indicative of higher psychological functions necessary for consciousness, such as perceptual categorization, memory, and learning. They are based on realistic models of the parts of the biological brain that the theory claims subserve these functions. The extended TNGS allows for the emergence of consciousness based only on further evolutionary development of the brain areas responsible for these functions, in a parsimonious way. No other research I've encountered is anywhere near as convincing. I post because on almost every video and article about the brain and consciousness that I encounter, the attitude seems to be that we still know next to nothing about how the brain and consciousness work; that there's lots of data but no unifying theory. I believe the extended TNGS is that theory. My motivation is to keep that theory in front of the public. And obviously, I consider it the route to a truly conscious machine, primary and higher-order. My advice to people who want to create a conscious machine is to seriously ground themselves in the extended TNGS and the Darwin automata first, and proceed from there, by applying to Jeff Krichmar's lab at UC Irvine, possibly. Dr. Edelman's roadmap to a conscious machine is at arxiv.org/abs/2105.10461

Awesome. I learned about and applauded New Ways since about 1985. Truly, that path of sacred service imposes a cost. Beautiful, prophetic, holy. Yeah, that teaching about using one's conscience - is really rarely taught or discussed. Thank you so much for your honesty at about 40:58 when asked about what you have given up.

Why not boil the water as well as blessing it? Knowledge of chemistry and microbiology are blessings too, no?
