I wouldn't call it "utterly boring" but agree that it is not maybe as great as their previous albums. The songs do sound the same but that's perfectly fine with me - it's just that I haven't felt that deeper connection to any of their songs. Having said that, I still have Holding you, holding me, dark vacay, silver sable on repeat for a while now so the album's not bad by any means. Also I totally agree with the sexual language this time around, like I know CAS doesn't shy away from that in their songs but stuff like "cream pie" and "brazzers" is a bit distracting tbh

Thanks for this short review... I was starting to think I was the only one critic with the album. I think 4/10 is not correct though. It's a good 6/10 with some songs that are above the average. In my opnion the fact that the music isn't original it's their best quality. As a fan of the band I can tell you that we love the fact they replay the same song over and over with slightly variations. It's romantic ambient music and they're probably the best in this niche. I can't judge the lyrics as I'm not a native speaker, but to me it seemed like their songs were always a bit boundless, so those lines you quoted don't come as a surprise. I think that guy, with his thin androgynous voice, could sing the worst and forbidden lyrics, and yet mantain unaltered that romantic aura everyone recognizes as typical of the band.

It was rough to listen to in every sense.

For me Djesse 4 is like black coffee. You try it once, and it sucks, you try it again and you are warming up to it, you listen some more and you're hooked. After a few listens your ear starts to adjust to the genre mashing that we aren't used to.

Just came from his concert a few days ago with bunch of friends and we discussed how each of us liked it. 90% of us (including me) were extatic. Ticket was 50 but I would pay 500 to see it one more time. But there was one guy who said something like this: "Everything was there but soul. Too much needles technique which didn't really serve anything. But he'll get more mature and will simplify his music, you'll see". I get where he's coming from. A similar place as you. But I wholeheartedly disagree. In my opinion, yes he does extrodinary things with technique. But it's always tasteful and takes me to places where no other artists can take me. Takes me to places I didn't even know existed. So again. A matter of taste. Just because everyone says that oysters taste good doesn't mean that I have to like them.

What people love more is looking at Dua Lipa so they confuse the desire to look with "liking" her music. This album is over promoted (as always) and nailed in our heads. It's not great.

I don't know why, but he does harmonies, theoretically well, but the performance is sooo...plastic and doesn't do it for me. Thing is, you CAN do complicated music that goes in every direction (Think bohemian rhapsody by queen or A day in The Life by The Beatles) without getting boring. But I feel he doesn't take his music in the most explosive and unique areas that even challenges him. I feel he goes to areas he knows well and never leaves it.

i´d say the engineering and production is phenomenal but the instrumental palate is a tad too limited in my oppinion - and that weird hyperpop bit i find obnoxious/super out of place - Wildflower and diner are probably my favourites - wilflower i love the siren run in the chorus (i think thats what those are called - basing it on the vocal excersize) and diner is just super fun in my opinion and i enjoy the slightly more lo-fi/washed out vocals

This is imo maybe the worst album dua lipa has ever made. its just a cash grab there i basically no artistic anything here and the singles are hits but are made to be hits. its a strong 3

Absolutely and completely disagree. As an artist myself, I love that he doesn’t try to conform to basic songs for the simple-minded. He’s complex and I adore it. Saw him in concert last night and made me appreciate him even more. <3

I think as a whole this album is a bit forgettable but there are a couple songs that will stick around as classic great Dua songs.

There’s nothing average about this album

I kinda agree with you. It totally relies on the singles. However, Watcha doing and Illusion are great songs! I can’t wait for someone else to cover Watcha doing in a great bass line to make it a 10/10 song. I think Dua should have asked a friend what they though about the album before releasing it. Anyways, overall I liked it… it sounds like her first album. I’d give it a 7.

I think is perfection...but I find the Taylor Swift one overwhelming and ppl praises it ...Its chilled and experimental
