This video example illustrates the difference between a basic shuffle and a basic swing. The swing should be played on the ride cymbal, but I found it was washing out the audio on the camera.

When I realized lekoize copied the same comment to all the bass vids, I figured I should do likewise with a reply! Great point! Many bassists are guilty of favouring one finger (Jamerson, G. Lee), but it's important to even things out in order to increase velocity. An exception to this rule is when crossing from high stings to low; raking across two strings with one finger is ABSOLUTELY proper technique. The goal of proper technique is to play the music you love. Thanks for the comment!
