I play games.
Raiden II (Arcade) - No-Miss 1-ALL
Played on MAME 0.256
My second clear of Raiden II. Not really a score or distance PB, but basically I was mildly annoyed my first clear died right at the end due to something as dumb as an incorrect weapon grab. I then decided why not just clear again and try 2P since it kind of forces to no-miss the game.
In Raiden 1, the blue ship had lower difficulty and made the game easier. Raiden II doesn't have that, but the 2P side starts with the yellow bombs which is pretty awesome. So what is the problem here? Well, Seibu thought it would be a brilliant idea to have checkpoints when using 2P instead of instant respawns similar to the japanese versions of Raiden 1.
I find the checkpoint implementation in these games to be very poorly designed: routes and speedkills rely on being at almost max power, lives are sparse, trying to get powerups usually ends up with you dying again because the harder stages are a lot more crowded.
The blue ship also has a different item order. It's almost identical to 1P with the exception of the 7 bombs in a row near the end of it, 6 of them are cut so the P item appears much earlier (beginning of stage 5 as opposed to stage 6), so if you die halfway through stage 4 you can actually recover with a P item. From what I noticed dying twice in stage 8 on no-miss pace also gives a P item.
I have the suspicion the reason they changed this is because, when you're close to that 7 bombs in a row part of the item order as 1P and die, the fairy will pretty much only drop bombs which really isn't as helpful as it sounds, I guess to make things "easier" for 2P all these bombs were just removed.
Anyway, in my opinion the differences in the item order for the second half of the game kind of just makes things more inconvenient. Juggling weapon items in stage 5 is generally more annoying and you can't bomb there as much, there is one bomb in stage 6 that can be hard to get, the last weapon item in stage 7 can be more troublesome since it's not the last one (hence why I delay destroying that item carrier).
I died in 2-3 because I accidentally left alive a tank I really wasn't supposed to spare lol and got to the boss but by that point I didn't have any fairies remaining.

Raiden II (Arcade) - 1 loop clear
Переглядів 4921 день тому
Played on MAME 0.256 Raiden II is the sequel to the first Raiden game, being just as popular and the game that solidified Seibu's crazy production values going forward with all the effects from enemies crashing into the scenery and shrapnel, while still having a flawless performance. Vulcan works the same as before. Blue laser is still fulfilling the boss killer role and not much else, mandator...
Raiden (Arcade) - 1 loop clear

Played on MAME 0.256 The original Raiden games are some of the most classic and recognizable shmups out there, being a huge success in Japan and even overseas. I had The Raiden Project on PS1 and it was one of my first exposures to the genre alongside Strikers 1945 II on the same console. I remembered several things like the music, some of the bosses, going to space and the laser being my favor...
Raiden Fighters Jet (Arcade) - Expert Course ALL3 (Slave)

Played on MAME 0.256 Whereas RF2's Expert mode focused on extremely fast revenge bullets this one is...kind of the opposite, and personally I don't find it as fun. Here, the revenge bullets are extremely slow and the danger comes from accidentally flooding the screen with them getting in the way. Normally the solution here is to just seal the revenge bullets, however the sealing range in Jet is...
Raiden Fighters Jet (Arcade) - Special Course ALL (Ixion)

Played on MAME 0.256 GoToNextArea So Special mode is basically a boss rush. I never touched it in Raiden Fighters 2 since I didn't see much of a point there, but for Jet in particular, it's the only mode where you can (sort of) play through every stage, and since I'm not really interested in recording an ALL1 or ALL2 of the game I figured I'd do this. The Ixion is another one of the best ships ...

Played on MAME 0.256 Raiden Fighters Jet is the final game in the Raiden Fighters series and also happens to be the last game developed by Seibu. I always found this game interesting since for me, RF2 was about as good as it was going to get with the general formula they had and I guess they reached the same conclusion since Jet took things in a more "interesting" direction. So the first and mo...

Played on MAME 0.256 So something I had not touched yet in Raiden Fighters 2 are the hidden modes you can play: Special and Expert. Special mode is just a basic boss rush while Expert is a much harder version of the regular game, rank is higher and enemies fire suicide bullets upon being destroyed. The suicide bullets are always aimed and can be sealed most of the time but they still change thi...

Played on MAME 0.256 For the first 4 stages I deliberately avoid laser items as it makes it hard to achieve several quick shot bonuses, while the starting shot with missiles is more than enough. For example the midsize planes in stage 2, with upgraded laser you have to pointblank in a very awkward way and honestly fuck doing that lol. Playing like this makes the game different than usual, since...

Played on MAME 0.256 This is a very strange ship. When I first played it my impression was just "yeah this sucks lol". But it got my attention that, visually, it's a slight sprite edit of Devastator from Raiden Fighters 1 and has the same missile weapon, while the laser is borrowed from Beast Arrow it. Now if you've played the first Raiden Fighters here is a very simple question: what did these...
Raiden Fighters 2 (Arcade) - All (Aegis IV, 100 millions)

Played on MAME 0.256 The majority of the routing is based on my previous replay with Aegis IIC (ua-cam.com/video/beotpAqpISk/v-deo.html), as both ships have similar weapons and the speed difference is minimal (Aegis IV moves a bit faster). What makes things change the most is Aegis IV being weaker. Honestly it was surprising reaching 100 millions by the end since I made several mistakes. The bi...

Played on MAME 0.256 New PB in Raiden Fighters 2 with this ship. The key behind this score update is 'grazing' the bullets, among other strategies like the "defended the tanks" bonus in stage 1 and some Miclus (Micluses?) appearances I didn't get before but the big part is the grazing. When you are close enough to a bullet a unique sound effect and you increasingly get points per-frame until a ...
Raiden Fighters 2 (Arcade) - All (Flying Ray, 91 millions)

Played on MAME 0.256 Flying Ray feels like a more OP version of Chaser to me, as in it fits the template of "high mobility, narrow shot and strong charged shots". The laser weapon is the same as Endeavor's from the first Raiden Fighters, which in my opinion was one of the best ships there. It works really well as a wide shot and does good damage at close range, especially when you use the charg...

Played on MAME 0.256 Raiden Fighters 2 doesn't change many aspects from its prequel but I find it to be a huge improvement. The stage design is full of secrets (medals, fairies, miclus, etc) with pretty much never a wasted moment, particularly the beach and sky stages which are pretty much non-stop scoring tricks the whole way through. You can also graze bullets for score, already present befor...

Played on MAME 0.256 This is the third hidden ship in the game and the only one that never shows up in the player select screen, sort of an easter egg in my eyes like "hey what if you could play as the little guys that follow you and always get blown up?" except in this scenario the little guys turn out to be powerful as fuck lol. The way you play as Slave is going to a ship, hold any direction...

Played on MAME 0.256 This is the second hidden ship coming from Viper Phase 1, a game I've actually barely played lol so that could be a cool thing to try eventually. Judge Spear is fast and strong which are 2 aspects you really want, but in my opinion it doesn't reach overpowered tier (no, that's the third hidden ship lol). About 80% of the damage comes from the missiles, the main shot on its ...

Can I also ask, how do you increase your bomb stock above 3? Thanks.
Play without autobomb. The bomb count increases when you die.
Having watched a few different runs and played a fair amount of SDOJ over the last few weeks, I can officially certify this run as being absolutely bonkers good. Amazing work.
Very impressive, that was a joy to watch!
Does it work on mame now?
Yes it has been playable on MAME for years by now.
fuck this game is so good! love that you kept the credit going after clearing
Really helping me out today man, great vids, thanks.
Sweet run my dood.

Love this run, great work my dood.
Good stuff. Love the Judge Spear

Interesting that Chitta's Concert that the Song is the 1st stage. I mean I don't blame her, it's a total Bop! hehe.
Awesome channel dude. Very impressive clears.
Nice job. Does this version have any slowdown missing?

Striking n blasting off the true evil since 1986 in my life 😊🎉😊
Take your good like. Excellent game!!😉
Intense last moments Will you do all ships for 2 and Jet too? 👀
I'm currently playing RF2 and I highly doubt I will clear with all the ships. For one, there is double the number of ships and the few times I've done this it was never with a game that had more than 8 characters lol, and also a lot of them I don't find them that good to play (most of the default ones). I'll just do whichever ones I like and call it a day, probably the same for Jet.
Nice run; I’ve heard Slave is pretty busted. What characters do you find more interesting to play?
Probably Chaser.

Ahh.. the classic Raiden Fighters franchise... Fast paced patterns, variety of ships (including the secret ones), crazy drugged bosses and the grazing mechanic. Despite being hard games, they are very enjoyable, and can also encorage a player to 1cc the games with practice and strategies.
Nice run, and without a secret ship too!
Awesome...!!! The slowdowns is acurate??? Vs the PCB. And you use blitter delay? Thanks
For about a year now, MAME releases have new blitter emulation and it's not necessary to change it anymore (you can see this by going to the slider controls in more recent versions, the Blitter Delay option is no longer there), but the CPU slowdown is still incorrect and too fast. I didn't change the settings for any of my SDOJ runs so what you see is the 'default' experience in MAME.
@@Andrew-tu1pp I understand. You knows how to play very well, and without slowdowns it is even more complicated. It seems to me to be a game that is as complicated as it is good. Thank you
INSANE Hibachi's last pattern dodging bro
To be honest I still don't know how I didn't die during some of these dodges lol. Cave hitboxes doing their magic.
The first NES game and Shattered Soldier on PS2 were the ones I played during childhood, but I find Super C is much better NES entry anyway.
Finally real interest clears
Going and watching some of the AL Hibachi clear too makes me appreciate a bit more the level of care that goes into these games Balancing every lil facet to accommodate for every ship/specialization combo has gotta be one of the bigger components of the dev cycle, and that's a lot to do
what are your thoughts on saidaioujou through mame? I tried playing it a few times and felt that there was a significant amount of input delay, making some patterns harder than they otherwise would be
For me it plays well on MAME minus a few problems with slowdown, it's a lot less frequent which is a bit problematic in a few select spots for Shot/Laser ships, and pretty horrible the whole way through if you play Expert. There is also an issue where the game can freeze when loading savestates that can be annoying at times. You could try enabling the low latency option in MAME. From the main menu click on 'System Settings', then click on 'Advanced Options' and you'll find it.
very nice run, I could see the nerves during the hibachi fight. Why hold off on hypering until stage 5?
It makes the midbosses section in stage 5 really straightforward and you always reach Hibachi with low rank.
Hibachi is a very hard TLB alright, good job for beating that! However, what if I told you that there’s another TLB hidden behind an even harder requirement in this game? You basically have to beat the whole vanilla game without dying, without using a bomb, getting all 5 bee perfects, having a high enough hit counter, AND having a high enough rank in 1 run in order to summon an entity who wipes out every single SHMUP player across the globe. I’m not even kidding, it’s THAT hard!
Okay. What if I told you someone actually managed to beat that one, too? Not trying to downplay anything here, that is a very comfortable Hibachi All. But Inbachi is on an entirely different level.
I already knew that IFC-Sairyou pulled it off. Thanks for asking.
You may have beaten the normal game with 1 credit, which is impressive alright! But… if you’re truly dedicated enough on that game, and if you’re able to fulfill certain criteria, you might end up facing whoever that silhouette is…

Out of the three ships and their types (Shot/Laser), which one would you recommend for a first time clear?
Type A-Shot is usually considered the best for clearing, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of the shot types since they have the most amount of bombs. With that said, my recommendation would be to try all the ships in the game and see which one feels the best to you, because sometimes you may not like the 'meta' and when that happens there is no point in forcing yourself to play with a ship you don't really like.
@@Andrew-tu1pp Thanks for the advice - I mainly played DonPachi with C-type but sometimes A-Type. I played SDOJ for a bit and used C-L and C-S. They seemed pretty okay for the most part, but wasn't sure what the differences were until I read your descriptions especially bomb stock and just a higher spread.
I Love it 😮😮😮❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤
Thank you for the video and the description. I am currently playing the SNES port with fastrom patch, normal difficulty setting, it’s the good level for my skill. What is your best Gradius/Parodius game? (arcade or port)
Thanks, but what do you mean with "best"? Are you referring to which one is my favorite of each series?
@@Andrew-tu1pp oh I mean your overall favorite Konami shmup(s?) based on the Gradius mechanism.
Curious if you play via crt or lcd?
LCD.
Basado, GG!
congrats!!!

Saw your post on this just a moment ago! HUUUGE congrats on this clear, and which such an impressive score too!
Keep it up bro
Spectacular!
