Mid July in the Florida Vegetable Garden - time for a rest
Переглядів 1072 роки тому
Summer is a tough season in the Florida vegetable garden. Give yourself a break and let the cover crops take over for a while. A few weeds here and there are to be expected. Don't forget to occasionally check on your long term crops like pumpkins and winter squash. Okra will be harvestable soon and we're all thinking about the Fall garden we're planning to plant around September. Learn more abo...

Thank you so much with the settings. The booklet didn't really explain it
Stupid question: I guess I have to turn the water on in the basement, and also turn the outdoor spigot on after I attach this?
i wish yall would do a video on planting fruit trees and what to add to the hole
Wear is tha plamt
Would love a further and in depth tour like growing habits, propagation and care for these plants and the insects, hope to see one soon ❤
Noice, thanks!
Very good video! I didn't know the mulch had to be placed so far from the trunk of the trees. How do you suppress weeds that encroach into that space?
I I do everything you say and I can get it to work for today as a test. It works fine but when it is done the NEXT START TIME says 0:00. Shouldn't it say the next day at the the start time. I keep getting stuck here
Thank you. I'm about to buy 20 to 40 acres in Florida and might need some help. I can't wait to help others as well.
Hi, I have gravity pressure that is around 8-10 psi. These type of timer will work at this low pressure?
My mulberry tree starts fruiting but the fruit gets dry after few days. They don’t get a chance to grow. What fertilizer should I use? What can I do?
Is it normal to have nodules in the roots of mulberry tree?
Hi Mark, thanks so much for this. Very helpful, and very well done.
Very good vid however my understanding of the backflow preventer is that it can not be under constant water pressure so it needs to be installed after the timer and if your timer has multiple outlets you'd need a BFP for each port.
💞 𝔭𝔯𝔬𝔪𝔬𝔰𝔪
Thanks for your informative video. My question is...do I add the pressure reducer between The faucet and timer or connect the pressure reducer after the timer. Thank you
At 6:09 in the video, he puts the pressure reducer on *after* the timer.
From experience, don't buy dwarf trees it's much better and easier to prune regular trees.
It's funny that pentas are always listed, but I rarely (never) see any bees/ butterflies around them. If you want to add a bee MAGNET to that garden, add snow square stem - Melanthera nivea. I have never seen any plant draw in such a variety of pollinators.
Yes!!! I have planted that and it’s covered with bees & beneficial wasps. Such a great plant.
How tall does the dwarf get?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Did you say if there's a better time to take cuttings and plant them? does fall or spring work better or does it not matter much?
Would not recommend this unit
What’s wrong with it?
@@NubianP6 it started leaking inside the housing i went thru 3 of them in a matter of 5 months
I have one like it. On its 3rd year of usage. Ace has a very good return policy.
Thank you. I am starting my mulberry plants I ordered online. This is a good start to learn what to do with it.
You don't need to use two buckets. One bucket with recycled bottles, gallone jugs, etc - at the bottom can be used to create the water reservoir. See farming with Leon
Paint the outsides of buckets with latex acryllic house paint wherever sun can hit them and they'll last longer. Check with your county waste management, you may be able to get discarded paint free!
Self-watering buckets are also a handy way to start seedlings. I crowd about 16 DIY paper pots in one bucket, plant my seeds and have ready-to-plant seedlings in a couple weeks . Bucket keeps moisture level just right!
I planted 150 seedlings of mulberries. Trim to have fruits right?
❤️from philippines😊
Do you sell your roots cutting
I bought root cuttings from ebay. They have bud, but I am still waiting for them to develop good roots before I transfer them. I am sure if you search enough, you will find one that sell only cuttings. They are way cheaper than buying from "fast growing trees," of which I have not had good success with at all.
Very helpful tips. Thank you for sharing.
It helps if you tell what kind of soil you use. If you water from the top first, for a few days. How many plants can you stuff into the bucket. Should you feed the plants, how and with what? Don't be shy, tell us everything that has to be considered.
A wealth of knowledge. Thank you.
Thank u for clearing doubts !
Thank you for sharing…
Hi, is this timer withstand strong rain and sun!? Will he stay with us for at least two years?!
These timers are meant to be outside in the sun and the rain and should last that long if not longer.
I think he will.
Can you clarify how long the cuttings were in the pot? One time you said a few months and shortly after you said a couple of months.
They were in the pots for about 2 months from cutting to transplanting
@@UFIFASLeonCountyExtension Thank you so much!
Would have been nice if you would have shown how you made the bucket

Nice to meet you. I'm from vietnam. Thanks for sharing
Greetings Rachel, thank you for sharing this awesome video and good luck with your Dwarf Red Mulberry tree! When you made the cuttings, I am curious as to what root hormones are good to use. I heard you could dip the part of the branch into pure honey, the side that you will place into soil. Is pure honey a good choice? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Edward
Looking like she doesn't give a hoot bud.. but I do. (Good question)
What is anyone’s opinion of CloneX, as a root hormone?
Here's a great guide from UF/IFAS all about plant propagation. edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdf/MG/MG10800.pdf I wasn't able to find any science backed information about whether honey is successful in rooting, but with mulberries, you usually don't need anything additional. They are known for their quick and easy rooting. Rooting hormones are usually sold either powdered or liquid and made from plants that produce quite a lot of it. They can be applied to mulberries but also to other plants you wish to propagate.
THE PUBLICATION YOU REQUESTED IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON EDIS.
After doing some research, it seems that honey wouldn’t be ideal because it would attract ants.
Growing both for my first time this year! Thanks for the info...
How did you get your citrus trees to grow. Do you have a video on growing citrus in 8b
We'll work on one for you. We are also in 8b here in Tallahassee. The key is to choose varieties that can tolerate some of our cold winters.
Thanks for sharing!
How many months take for bear Mulberry fruit?
You may find that even a first year rooted cutting will produce one or two fruits its first year but by the next spring it will be producing much more.
Thank you for doing this after have such devastation from a flood! This could be redone - would love more of these videos. We live on 5 acres in north Leon County - interested in butterflies, birds, pollinators, native plants. As a note about plants - I have noticed that we live with somewhat clay soil (we are in the Red Hills region) and have acid soil - so any plants like columbine that prefer a more alkaline soil - never do well with us. So noting right plant, in the right place - good to get this information, too.
We have lots of educational events coming up. You can register here on our Eventbrite page www.eventbrite.com/o/ufifas-leon-county-extension-10978485190
