Niagara Frontier Chapter - NRHS
United States
Приєднався 18 бер 2020
The Niagara Frontier Chapter - NRHS is one of the oldest railroad history organizations in the country, tracing its founding to back to 1938.
From an original group of about 16 railfans that met weekly in 1938, to a year later being affiliated as the Buffalo Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts, the Chapter we know today grew into one of the largest in the country. In 1942, the group changed affiliation to the then new National Railway Historical Society, becoming the Buffalo Chapter, #17 in the nation.
Since that time, the Chapter, a non-profit organization, has dedicated itself to the preservation and education of railroad history in Western New York State, the Province of Ontario, and neighboring regions.
To better reflect our mission, the Chapter's name was changed in 1988 to the Niagara Frontier Chapter - NRHS, Inc. On June 1, 2003 the long anticipated opening of our Railroad Museum of the Niagara Frontier, in North Tonawanda, NY was celebrated!

After a long winters nap, the Museum's former Tonawanda Island CLC Whitcomb Diesel Locomotive fired right up! The task at hand was to move the Museum's equipment to make room for an impending parking lot expansion. After a safety briefing and successful brake test, the locomotive made short work of the job. This was the first time the Museum's cabooses & Plymouth engine had been moved in over 2...

A Ride On The Alaska Railroad From Seward To Anchorage
2:24
It looks like there was a second track at one time.
I remember having a friend who lived in Tonawanda on Fletcher Street in the 70s and we would walk up the line to where the real-estate office is now and wait for trains to come by. I knew every landmark on the video.
Love this old critter switcher. So glad ADM donated it and you accepted it. I got a few pics of it sitting in front of the old elevator in Buffalo as was being demolished on January 1, 2023. Are you planning any restoration or uses for this loco? Hope I get to visit your Museum this summer (2024).
Back in the 60's I was kid and I remember all the many and large train yards in the Niagara Falls Area, it was fascinating. Niagara Falls and Buffalo combined were a great major train area that rivaled Chicago.
Great improvements - and well done on the grant.
Congratulations ! Your work is very valuable ! Greetings from Port Saint Lucie, Florida!
The nt mayor sucks
Bill went to school with my Dad who belonged to the same club. thanks for this. he also was my godfather.
Incredible video! Knew exactly where I was the whole time. Grew up in Pendleton, still remember the spur that rolled through town on the way to Harrison Radiator in Lockport. Ah, the good ‘ol days….🥹
Very cool! Making good progress with the museum
What a fabulous video. Thanks for putting this up!😁
Forgot too sound the horn!
At 9:28 is a great view of the Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct, better known as the Nicholson Bridge, Nicholson PA.
Love the music as well as the trains thank for sharing.
This is all great footage. Thank you for uploading.
This calms me down. Thank you Niagra
My old stompin' grounds! Buffalo and the Niagara Frontier. Thank you 💕
Congratulations on the addition.
Very nice
I used to watch this locomotive going over the Island St. bridge, great memories.
I guess it wasn’t an express. Too bad it didn’t include a view from the bridge Over the Niagara gorge a few miles further
Indeed. The turnout toward the Michigan Central Railway bridge would still have been there.
@@-smokem yes and a shot of that historic bridge which is still there but(unfortunately)is /was to be dismantled (20 years ago).
I learned the City of Niagara Falls owns that bridge, bought from CP. I wouldn't think dismantling the bridge is a high priority.
@@-smokem I read or heard that CP was required to demolish it around or by 2001ish.I recall that the approach and some of the bridge on the US side has been removed.
Indeed, the approaches over a couple of streets on the Niagara Falls, NY side have been removed. Everything else is still intact.
Great music! I expect to see Laurel and Hardy show up in these films. 😊 Greetings from Port Saint Lucie Florida! Thanx for making these gems available ! It's freezing here this christmas day 2022!
I'm 56 and watching these films, and the music, make me feel like I'm sitting by the fire with a cup of cocoa (with some whiskey in it) wrapped up in the snuggiest blanket. Thank you.
I wonder how the dome window got broken out at 9:44? Looks pretty serious, although the old lady sitting under it seems unfazed. Did she do it, maybe stood up to fast?:)
Good music selection 👌
Such a disappointment there were no steam locos until minute 17. But it made me realise the dome cars probably only came in with the diseasals as the steam locos would have covered them in soots. Ah well, nostalgia isn’t what used to be.
I used to watch this locomotive going over the Island Street Bridge when I worked on Island Street and River Rd. Great memories.
Love it! thanks for posting!
My folks and I were on that. My father was a member of the club. We went on quite a few of these.
Check for cracked springs in those brake cylinders.
Great period music, fitting the trains
Excellent footage! Thank you so much for posting!! I love Bing Crosby & Guy Lombardo doing "You're Getting to a Habit with Me"!!!
Outstanding footage!! I just love the Nickel Plate Railroad!!
6:14 The number on the NYC 2-8-2, it reminds me of a year.
How I wish trains still looked like this.. Thank you WCK and NFC/NRHS for keeping these memories alive..I caught the last days of steam as child on Long Island in the early '50s... Am 74 now in L.A... Once in while the Daylight or 3741 will come to Union Station and I'm just awed at their huge presence and dignity..
i love it
bring mw back brother
It would have been nice to have had narration as to locations.
Did Anchorage to Seward and back to Anchorage last Friday. Great ride beautiful scenery. Loved Seward. Definitely plan on doing it again.
I remember taking that train from Syracuse to this stop with my late father it was fun we stayed the nite at John's open hearth and out early the nxt morning back to Syracuse
My Grandparents lived just 2 blocks from this line in North Tonawanda NY. Spent quite abit of time trainwatching there back in the 1970's.
Thanks for the ride!
Excellent video. Very interesting rail infrastructure condensed in that region from the looks of it. Let me tell you though, if I was a crewman riding in the cab of an F40PH in HEP generation mode, I would get tired of listening to that really quick.
Great footage of the 19th street tracks in Erie PA
I remember the bridge with the Koehler beer logo over French street that serviced their facility
This is awesome! Frontier Yard was much busier then.
thank god for the MUTE button
Always with that damn "Gonna Take a Sentimental Journey."
@@mynorthshore Admittedly, its' a much better choice than Glenn Miller's "American Patrol."
I like how this F40PH here had a more unique bell and not just an EMD Steel Bell. Luckily, the real 310 is still around today, as one of the F40PH-3Cs running on Metro North's West-Of-Hudson Service.
Thanks for posting! At 4:25, I believe you get a quick view of an Erie passenger train departing Olean, NY.
So, cool. I grew up railfanning these lines. But that was after Conrail. 😔 Cool to be able to see how it looked back then! Not too much different. Just new signals, new Niagara Falls station, and Frontier yard has changed quite a bit. And nothing of the LV's Niagara Yard remains, except for the Amtrak bypass.
Good ol Amtrak controlled siding. They just updated it to Continuously Wielded Rail from Cp26 to CP28 last year
@@veinbanger9381 So that must be where the CWR train I saw was headed!
