So some time ago, back when we were an idiot (not much has changed) I nonchallantly added some logic that would center the AI senses logic gameobject to the zero position of an enemy fish. Well at some point I decided to centralize these bits of logic and move the script to the fish. Today, randomly that logic decided to break 1/2 of fish spawns, because on start, the fish were all teleporting ...

      @@osmanzaman8483 Oh gosh, it really depends on what you yourself are good at/ enjoy and the sort of games you think you would enjoy making. You REALLY gotta start small and build from there. Here are some content creators to look into: Jonas Tyroller and Thomas Brush. Give them a look, they have some great resources on getting started and following through. It's a VERY Long journey and it takes many years to get up and running. Also don't be shy about joining communities like discords for gamejams, art communities, code communities. The journey is different for everyone, so a lot of this is just figuring out what works for you! There's never been more resources out there, but it's hard to stay focused and work hard, that's what really makes the difference. Work smarter, not harder... but also harder XD

I don't trust AI, and I don't trust myself not to rely on it too much so i force myself to do hard code so I can get better. This is a long-term goal of mine. I would love to teach gamedev to the masses, and how to learn because we do such a poor job of it currently. I would suggest you get your hangs and game maker or Unity and look into how you can see sample projects and just start toying with an existing project. See if you can adjust a few things in a project that is already up and running, and also watch lots of tutorials! There are tons of fantastic resources out there, spend some time to find the best ones. I have dabbled with tutorials in the past, and it's a little cringy, but here's one I did on the prefab systems for Unity: ua-cam.com/video/44QXwF8Hxxo/v-deo.html Anyhow, I really need to focus on wrapping up SeaCrit, if that goes well, I will have more resources that I can put into helping others learn how to make games, which is one of my ambitions for the future should things go well. Thanks for the comment and hope i can help in the future!

      I'd be lying if I said I didn't play the game! It may have had some bit of affect on the game, but it was actually the old flash game FISHY! that had the biggest impact on this game, my oldest build of SeaCrit is actually just a FISHY! clone. The other big inspiration was Ecco the Dolphin. All manner of games I'm drawing inspiration from: Level design from excitebike, controls smoothness from Mario 64, light progression feel from DOTA. Every game I have ever played has played some small part in helping me stitch together the design of SeaCrit. If I recall correctly i think i saw a video showing fish smoothly turning in Hungry shark that made me revamp my movement system and I remember looking at videos to see how they had done their backgrounds but didn't take too many notes from it. The impact of Hungry Shark in SeaCrit is fairly minimal. Sharks are the iconic fighters of the sea, many games have sharks in them!

    There's a lot I could do to improve the pipelines of these various systems. There's a lot of content bloat for what could be a few material tweaks per fish and a few changes to abilities. But no time for that now. Gotta push for the demo and pray for backing and THEN the core can be better developed.

    • @indieguy7297
      @indieguy7297 5 років тому

      Thank you! And I do, Even got them semi implemented, which I regret because at some point i'm going to have to redo the whole thing to fit the new prefab setups: ua-cam.com/video/dnSkJz4lZjY/v-deo.html Its super rough and very early in implementation. The idea is you have your own "fish tank" and it has some light idle mechanics and you can spend a long term resource you can farm by playing the game or idling to improve your fish. It's sorta like a talent tree, but imagine if a talent tree had randomized modifiers like epic loot in diablo when you leveled it up. And if you didn't like the random talent you could cut it up into chum and feed it to your bigger and better talent skills. Buying and upgrading sharks generally makes you survive better. Buying and upgrading "Nosey Fish" gives talents that improved ranged combat. That sorta deal.

    • @indieguy7297
      @indieguy7297 5 років тому

      Good to hear Fahim. I'm keeping the door open for touch devices, but for now i'm focusing on mouse and gamepad devices. That said the graphics are very optimized with very low draw calls, and all the lighting is baked into the core shaders (It runs on a damned potato). So though I don't think it's quite AAA quality, i think for the resources it runs on it's doing swell. Why fish? Because sharks are friggin' awesome and easy to rig and you could feasibly play this game on anything. I would go one further and say, why would you make a game about anything BUT fish!? Easy to animate, easy to rig, low poly, no uncanny valley, an open ocean of untried gameplay possibilities. No need for a jump button, you can hyper focus on the action. All the possibility of a side scrolling shooter paired with beat 'em up elements in a setting that makes some level of sense. Also just speaking from a demographics perspective what age of person, or culture doesn't look favorably towards fish? I find it very strange there haven't been more games about fish, and what few games have been have shared a largely unreasonable amount of success.
