Sweet, sweet music 🎶
I definitely think the HST lost a lot of pulling power when they got replaced with MTU engines. They were replaced due to noise pollution, yet were never the same train when their engines were replaced.

Have to let the pistons stretch their legs for a bit to make sure everything is working right.
Listening to this through headphones takes me back to my childhood. It was my first time being in a railway station with my late father and hearing that distinctive Valenta scream. Happy times.
Fabulous! I loved the GNER livery too.
Nice
Nice
17 years 😂 the times I've returned
The wonderful sound of the Challenger 2 MBT
The turbo and the Marston fan are trying to out scream each other! A sound I listened to hundreds of times, and then one day it was gone.
It was always disappointing walking up into King's Cross and seeing HSTs there and not Deltics. Now they're both gone !
Почему такая кривая платформа
Before the ECML was ekectrified, the acceleration from the HST was awesome and you could feel the power when the train was travelling between York and Doncaster at 125 mph. WCML was never the same.
I went on the HST from marylebone today on the 15th march 2024 and it was a great time on the HST I love that trip.
"What a machine!" -Jeremy Clarkson
God I miss the sound of those
Beautiful noise
nearly as good as a Deltic.
1 million views. Half of them are mine I think..
Never gets old this clip. Think I'm responsible for a few thousand of those views.
Clag so big you get embarrassed 😂
I love the old GNER livery. Nice to see them still going: ua-cam.com/video/_9n5EC3391E/v-deo.htmlsi=bI2U53a29fKgR99Y
Cool
What a beautiful sound. 😊
I am sure the driver came to depo and saw that Valenta being prepared for him is assigned to him and he said hell yeah
Start? It was already running!!!! It just set off on the journey.
That Valenta turbo scream! Can I share this please?
What a fantastic servant to British Rail.
Remember going on these in my early teens up to Scotland - windows down behind the loco not knowing anything about trains and thinking that sound was completely amazing. A shame it is difficult to find anything like it these days to be passionate about.
Legendary.
He's not hanging around!
The scream of the turbos on these things is frightening up close! Sounds more like a jet engine! :)
One of the few diesels that has the theatricals of a steamer. In the sound mix is some Tie Fighter roar and Millennium Falcon whistle, that’s some proper premium 1970s sci-fi.
Just a tad loud
She Rocks!!!!!
Is that at Newcastle central?
A Jeremy Paxman at his best, screaming roaring bellowing, like he is chewing up a politician.
That sounds more like an airplane ✈️
This brings back loads of memories of when I was really young between late 2006 and 2007 my grandad would take me to Newcastle and we'd see lots of GNER trains, we even went on a few together before they closed
I was a kid when these things were in their prime. Used to scare living bejesus out of me for how LOUD they were
That sounds sooooo good on decent loudspeakers!! Deep rumbling bass combined with that high pitched turbo whistle is awesome!!! Great catch!
Plus the whine of the cooler group and traction motors. It’s got everything.
I still remember standing under the canopies at the old Reading back in the 80's listening to these wind up . Stunning to be stood next to one as the turbo scream kicked in. Even a close encounter with Concorde on one occasion couldn't match it. Designed in Britain, engineered in Britain, built in Britain, maintained in Britain, run on the railways of Britain, we were the best in the world. WTF happened to this country?
Crazy sound...on a passanger train 😅😅😍
We will never hear anything like that ever again. RIP Paxman Valenta
Well .Not really .The 125 Group is planning to restore a valenta into 43044.
Beautiful! Just beautiful… Just imagine that diesel small!! Just amazing. HST 125 at it’s pure finest ❤
I miss the Paxton Valentinas
"Paxton Valentinas" stronk
Reminds me of being a small child at the station with my nan, we used to go watch them on the weekend and the roar of the HST’s dispatching or flying by used to scare me a lot because they was so loud and would make everything rumble but that was also the reason I liked them so much. I do miss the days of a diesel smelling Smokey platform with Slam doors, whistles and loud engines. Today isn’t the same
Remember standing on Didcot station waiting for a connection to London in the 1970s and wondering why they'd painted yellow lines along the platform. I soon found out!
That was some serious clag there 😮
That scream used to scare the hell out of me!
