A Short Toy Photography Documentary
In winter of 202, as part of a documentary class at Southern Oregon University, I was asked to make a documentary showing the process of any given process. I chose to show what goes behind some of the edited images I like to create, and part of the reason why I make them. I thought I'd share the project, instead of letting it collect digital dust on my computer.

An aspiring scientist creates a formula for a special kind of dog food, but is unaware of the terrifying effects it will have on his four legged friend. This is my first film project through the DCIN program at Southern Oregon University! It's been an exciting, and sometimes frustrating ride, but the process of making this start to finish with the help of peers, instructors, and friends has mad...

A Key to Memory(Short)
Переглядів 2714 роки тому
A young woman opens the door to the deteriorating house of her ancestors, and is flooded with the memory of her family's past. Back in June, my mom, sister, and I were in upstate New York visiting some family. Along with the usual visiting, we would also explore an old farm house that has been in our family for generations. Having a general idea for what the house used to look like and who live...

Broo🔥🔥 this tutorial is sick Result’s definitely worth watching this
This is so stupidly simple... what a great idea.. love it.
1inch roll would work
YES! ahhh man. Now I can get that 80$ bi color softbox, and then build a grid. Not have to spend a ton of money to get going here. God Bless.
Oh nice! Glad it’ll work out!
It's funny to me how some people seem to think using gels somehow "adds color" when it's really doing the opposite. A bright red gel is not red in the way we perceive it, in fact it's every other color BUT red. It absorbed the other colors for the most part, leaving the red photons the ability to pass through or be reflected if it's opaque enough. Shine a bright blue light at the red gel and almost none of it will get through. I've seen people try to stack a red and a blue gel on top of each other, thinking purple will come out the other side, 😆and instead essentially no light passes through. I've tried to use low CRI light as key light before in my younger days, and kept realizing that if there's not enough red light in your white light source, that their skin looks extremely sickly and washed out. If you're forced to use something like that, I'd suggest getting a small throwy RGB to add in a little red ,or whatever color is lacking, and all of a sudden they look like they have blood flowing through their veins again. ha
Interesting! This actually looks closer to a fabric grid than the poster board version. Though, the fabric grids I'm seeing atm are all under about $10.
Yeah grids are really only expensive when they’re for the pricy softboxes. The down side is that these don’t fold that well, but the upside is that they’re crazy cheap and can be custom made for any size softbox.
@@nathanaellathrop5799 ah, that would be why. I'm only looking at cheap softboxes, haha!
This is very smart, I was just thinking about this 😂
Thanks! Credit to @AliDrew for the actual brains behind this project!
Very clear demonstration
With all the effort you put into this, you had to share! Thanks! Having a passion for something, anything, is a very special thing, one that should not go unappreciated.
Excellent work, my friend.
Thanks!
Awesome job. I'm doing this
Thanks! Great video to watch, DIY and very helpful.
This is actually my problem too with my softboxes and now I know better. Thanks!
Glad it could come in handy!
Very clever. Thanks for sharimg

you are legend! i love itttt
Thank you! I think the hard work paid off
thank you so much for the idea
I used spray paint for the color an It turned out really well, im getting really cool effects
Great idea! I’m sure it makes the filters look more professional too!
I have made this.. But it's still to heavy for my softbox. So sad. But, thanks for the tutorial.
That’s a bummer. Some folks have made grids out of card stock, which might be a bit lighter. Also, I’ve found that adding bagged weights, such as ankle weights (which I have found at thrift stores) to the base of your light stand helps keep the whole thing more stable.
I love the idea but wouldn't it stick to your softbox when you want it off? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to save money but I think that it will be troublesome to take it off if it starts to stick.
So far in the years I’ve had it, it has never stuck. If you do a really clean job of taping, and run a thin strip around the whole grid, it’s very stick free.
@@nathanaellathrop5799 - Thanks Nathanael! I will definitely give this a shot and save some money!
Damn it was so good

I like that idea! It would make the light super focused. Have you tried it?

Can u share ur lighting setup?
Since I don’t have enough footage for a behind the scenes video, I’ll just explain the lighting for the lab scene. I had a can light with a gel shooting through the window, and a 55w fresnel with a red gel dimly lighting me and the set from the side. There was a small panel light under the basin on the table, along with two RGB light strips running along the table, one green and one white. The fluids in the containers were all color dyed water, which added a bit more color to the scene. I also had three small candles on the table as well.
How fun to watch! Wonderful job.
@@ruthpeddinghaus6660 Thank you! It was fun to make.
Why u have less subscriber? This great channel
Thanks! It’s probably because I upload rarely, and my content isn’t super consistent.
Nice but at this point you might as well just spend the $15.
I’m so glad to find out they’re cheap to buy!
Nathanael, thank you.
Legend!
Simple but effective. This was a great tutorial
I respect your patience.
I'm the lady that did this with Gorilla tape :-) It was all I had in the house at the time. I like your version without the frame. It's been two years and mine is still holding up. I did find a dead spider stuck to an exposed sticky area recently soooooo watch for that. Great video, I'm glad you got some inspiration.
That was fun making
Hey ;) nice video ! but set your sound level to 0Db ;)
0dB is actually the loudest, agree sound was a bit loud but no need for the comment.
Great idea, and great video! Any particular reason to choose glossy duct tape over matte gaff tape?
Thanks! Primarily for price. Gaff tape results would probably be better, but more expensive.
@@nathanaellathrop5799 good point! How well the grid held up over the last year?
@@nbrt164 I’ve mostly had mine hanging on a single light, or stuffed in a drawer, and some of the corners have stretched a tad, but other than that, and collecting a few dog hairs, looks brand new.
Wonderful ...thank you for sharing
Thanks! You just rescued my lighting plan for a shoot I have planned in 6 days. I need two grids but the OEM delivery time is too long so I was about to panic. Not anymore :-)
That’s 🔥! Glad I could help!
Cool and intresting solution man, thanks...! Great production quality in your video and delivery. Very Loopy High End Solutions may be a good trademark for your idea, you should look into that...! Have a great day man.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
