This song is full of double entendres. "The bastard _lies_ in bed now" he's literally laying in a bed, but he's lying to himself justifying his actions, and he lied about her drowning herself. "When push it came to _shove her"_ plays on the saying "when push comes to shove" meaning when bad goes to worse, but also refers to the way he literally beat her.

i weirdly loved the little priest bg character, a part of me likes to imagine a better ending, where instead of running to the bog she runs to the church, and with the priest's help get her husband arrested and goes on to maybe become a nun

Can I just say how absolutely amazing this animatic is? If I’m being completely honest, this isn’t just the best Leave Luanne Animatic, but the best Animatic I’ve ever seen like- wow. 🧡🧡🧡🧡

This is the most actively upset I've ever seen The Bastard over Luanne's passing, and it actually somewhat changes the ending a bit for me. Not sympathetically for him, of course, but when his face freezes and chills down again at 5:47, it almost shows his process for Dealing with things in his life. Being scared, clinging to his pride, and turning angry and cold. And his "someone's howling" verse, with him swinging at the air trying to get rid of her and starting to go mad from that, is also a new interpretation for me, but one I like. Ties into his sanity slipping from earlier, and him truly never sleeping again. I think this is the most personality I've seen in The Bastard in one of these, and it adds layers to the song. His words to her become the mantra he's told her - and himself - to keep her by his side in life. Scared of losing what he had (especially after losing his job), and so crushing it to him in the hopes that it COULDN'T leave him. His dog was roped up, and so was his wife - and when he lost her (and possibly them both in that night), he lost proof of himself still having some control over his life. He's been humanized, but in a way that only explains how a man could do this, not ever marking it as right. Again, none of this makes The Bastard more sympathetic or justified, but it's fascinating to untangle the thought process of someone choosing such terrible actions, and it's the subtle details of this animatic that pull it out. Well freaking done.

That part when she's got spirals in her eyes man! Like what she doing hypnotising him? is that her driving him insane? also that expresion he gives when he tries to punch her and he just loses it. but the part where she looks like she's seducing him is the most unsettling part. because I can't tell if he's suddenly willing to be the sub now what with the kinky chain and seductive eyes she's giving or what?! since he also looks generaly terrorfied. I think his conciance eventualy drove him insane to where he no longer knows what he feels. but he knows to still know fear in this case because she has every reason to be mad with him. but is he actualy happy she came back to him and wants him? or is that something he's wishing for? and then theres the part where he brieths her in like she's possessing him and then has him on a chain? Ok I think I know what's going on here. she's driven him so far insane to where I think what realy happens here is since he made everyone think she commited suicide she probably drove him to actualy commiting suicide hiself. and him having the chain around his neck is her collecting his soul after he died and just maybe... symbolic of HOW he died? one person suggested that he drowed her by chaining her feet and that's why she has chains on her feet. My theory is the chains symbolise their marriage that was never broke. So if the chains on her feet are how she died the leash on his neck may symbolise him hanging himself. or maybe he chained his own neck and drowned himself or something? also some people believe he beat her to death. well by the looks of her face and how bloody it is, he may have verry well beat her face in. though the issue with that theory is people might have noticed that if they found her body... then again if they had found her body wouldn't the question the chains? unless they think she chained herself up?

Can someone explain the ending and what happened to him for me, I didn’t get it

“Never dying, in a fate worst than death” I see a lot of animatics killing the bastard, which I like. But unless I’m hearing this line wrong, I don’t think that’s the case (unless it’s been stated, then disregard this comment) what of luanne torments him until he dies? Or he goes to hell without dying?

What’s interesting is that I believe the phrase being used changes throughout the song. “loyal, Luanne remains” Is what I hear near the beginning of the song. implying she wasn’t exactly a loyal person at heart but that (as is with most victims of domestic violence) she couldn’t accept the severity of the abuse she was facing and stayed in hopes of bringing back the person she thought she had known. But after Luanne is dead it sounds as if the same line is being used in a different way. “loyal Luanne, remains” If you listen you can hear that, between the part where she’s alive and where she’s dead, the pause in the phrase changes, meaning that the comma in the phrase has been moved to a different location. It changes the meaning of the phrase from Luanne remaining loyal to “loyal Luanne” remaining, even after death.

I like to think luanne got a new better family with ghosts that do the same job as her like a new husband in a ghost who punishes women who are abusive to their husbands, a dog who punishes abusive pet owners (could even be the ghost of her own dog) and a child who punishes abusive parents. What do you guys think.

Damn that ending is something right out of a Greek Myth, Shakespearean Tragedy, or a Gothic Horror where in the characters get punished for their sins in a way with a lot of Karma/poetic justice where the character reaps what they sew and pretty much creates their own damnation.

What makes the chain thing so ironic is because theres a Greek story about a guy avoiding death by using Death's chains against him, and in the end the guy dies because death is inevitable. So yea.
